GETTING MY SHOULDER FIXED | Day In The Life | Rob Lipsett

Rob Lipsett visits Feel Good Physio where Ollie diagnoses pec-major irritation causing his shoulder pain and recommends switching to underhand grip pressing. He trains upper body using the new "key press" technique, then documents his day with meal prep, a train ride back to London, and a gaming session with his Ghost team.

Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of The Life of Rob. We are as usual starting our day with some of the most burnt sausages London has ever seen in its entire life. We're doing some whole eggs and we'll let egg white. And then today we're actually going to physio and also a new gym. The physio is in the new gym. Also, what I often say is if you're lacking a little bit of motivation, your routine's feeling a little bit monotonous, go check out a new gym just for the lols. I absolutely love going to the new gym, especially like you see see some new machines, some new equipment. Door. Yeah, how's it going? Oh, perfect. Yes, thank you. Cheers, you too, mate. Jesus, a lot going on this morning. So yeah, we're going to a new gym, we're going to a physio, it's going to be a great day. And then we're also playing Warzone with some people from Ghost. Let's get into the vlog, let's eat some sausages. Isn't that a lovely little breakfast that we've got going on here? So we got some beans, we got these lean high protein sausages from Muscle Food UK, and Lovely, perfectly shaped fried egg and some poverty ketchup as well. Low sugar and salt, boom. Right, gonna eat this now. See you in a bit. Let's kill it today. After that amazing breakfast, I decided it was time to get caffeinated. These days my go-to is an iced coffee out of a jar because when I reuse a jar, it makes me look more eco-friendly and also slightly less uncool. I fill the jar up to the very top with ice, pop in 2 espresso pods, some skim milk, and a dash of sweetener. I find this very helpful on the court as it gives you a cold, sweet hit that I find very satisfying. Hi people, so I've decided to Uber there and then I'll figure out the train situation and get the train back, save some money then. But right now we're just running a little bit late as always. Let's go fix these shoulders, check out Epsom. The gym that the physio is based in that we're going to is called Fitness Theory, so it looks really cool in pictures. Can't wait to check it out and get a sick pump. Let's go. Thank you.
Cheers!
All right, so we just got outside there. Time to fix these shoulders. We're figuring out how to get me benching heavy again. Okay, so right again. Yeah, yeah, you mean for once?
Right, check it out, check it out, check it out. Right, and so there's actually quite a few muscles that insert right into the top of the arm. So if you're going, I've got pain right in the front of the shoulder, right here, that's one of the rotator cuffs, okay? And right here you've got one of the bicep muscles. And if you go through here, that bicipital groove is where it's normally going to be a little bit sore. The thing is, when I resist your arm inflection, I'm not getting— I'm not getting any pain, right? So we can kind of start to rule out biceps. And actually, we're thinking, if we look at the pec and all the big muscles that go into it, so we've got the lats And then through here we've got the one of the rotator cuffs, and we want to get right into that pec major, which is going to be right up here. And if we fade him out, we can see that he goes right into that front of the shoulder as well. So actually where you're getting pain, and we can reproduce it with any sort of pec and push movement, yeah, we're kind of limited— we're linking it in that it's probably going to be a pec irritation. Something's up with that pec major. So he's become really flared up, he's become really irritable, as opposed to the actual biceps. And then if we go in, we're thinking about our scap and all our rotator cuff as well. These muscles help move the shoulder, but you're like, well, I don't get pain with a shoulder press. Yeah, I don't get pain when I lateral, uh, do lateral raises, and I don't get pain when I externally rotate. So we're starting to rule those out as well.
Yeah, it's just, um, it's just really flat pressing and slight incline and decline pressing too. Overhead pressing.
What about interrotation? So if you want to push me away, so like push onto my palm. How's that?
It's all right, it's not too bad.
Yeah, okay, so we're kind of linking it in. Let's that the pec major is going to be a little bit irritated and we'll go from there. Right, so let's have a look.
Be following this man on IG. Fellow Irishman.
Come on, David, I'm not as posh as you.
I'm not as posh.
Fuck off.
I'm wearing a blazer. Alright guys, so all done with physio. I feel so much better. After going to physio, I'm always like, I need to do that more often. And it's also great to have fellow Irishmen out here in London. So feel good physio. Do go check him out. I'll put his link in the description box and also put his username on the screen. So yeah, feeling great now, about to hit an upper body session, so let's get it. So felt great after a trip to the physio and instantly felt better after it. Ollie is a great fella and also makes me feel a lot more at home when I meet some Irish in London, as I still have not been able to go home once this year, which is just insane. But the main thing I took away from today was the way I'm going to perform my pushing movements from now on. I'm going to be using a neutral or underhand grip for most, if not all, movements until the pain goes away. But that really doesn't bother me at all, as I'm enjoying changing things up a bit. I actually feel better contraction on some exercises, in particular the underhand press or the key press, whatever you want to call it. So the gym that I'm training at here is also a very cool one down in Epsom called Fitness Theory, and I had the place all to myself, so it was a good day. Just like that, people, we are done. Thank you so much to Fitness Theory and of course Ollie from Feel Good Physio. Fix on my shoulder, they already feel so much better. And a great session. The main takeaway point right there would be the key press is going to be something that I incorporate into my routine a lot more. Great contraction, no pain, awesome pump. So now we're in Epsom. How's this for a travel vlog? Kind of traveling, it's like an hour away from where I live. Plan is, uh, we're going to get a train back to my area and then get some food as well. I might pick up something now quickly. This is Epsom, everyone. Beautiful. Right, so we're getting on the old train to London Victoria and then straight home. I'm actually learning how to work the train. There's absolutely no one here as well, lovely. So physio's great, great gym sesh. I'm hungry though. I ran to Tesco there and made like a little kind of train lunch, probably the best way to describe it. So, show you what I get in a second when I'm on the train. Alright, so next thing we do is go into Victoria Underground Station. Station, then we're just straight trip home. Usually when they ask me to transfer it, like Google Maps, when they're like, take this connecting, that's when I mess up and get lost. But I think I got it this time. Also, these views. All right, see you at home. And just like that, we are at home and got a package from Red Bull. Let's see what this is. Okay, anyways, gonna have prep meal now, add some chicken breast to it. Shopping video seriously overdue. That fridge is looking grim. We're gonna make some food, I'm gonna show you what it looks like, I'm gonna eat it, and then it's gonna be a good time. I also think I'm gonna get my hair cut today, a little late night cut. So Linda has come back to London tomorrow, look fresh. So post-workout, we're gonna have a prep meal from Macro Meals. I'm gonna chop up the chicken breast and add that to it, put it on a pan just like the last video. How consistent! Um, but so I was just talking to the owner of that gym, she DM'd me, and I just realized that there's actually gyms in some parts of the UK closing down again, uh, Liverpool being the main example. Usually I'm never the one to like complain the government's doing a bad job, you know, or be like an armchair politician or anything like that, but I think closing down gyms is so ridiculous. We're meant to be improving people's health as much as possible, and to stop people exercising— there's, there's actual studies. I posted them on my story a while ago showing gyms have one of the lowest transmissions out of everywhere. Supermarkets, pubs, everywhere. Gyms, one of the lowest. It just doesn't make sense. One thing I have been seeing, and I absolutely love it, is some gyms fusing with clothes so that they financially can't do it. And they won't survive and they're going against government guidelines. And I actually thought that was really inspiring. And so yeah, what do you guys think? Do you think they should just obey everything they say or should we make a stand? But obviously, as someone in the fitness industry and gyms staying open is something that I'm big on, I'm obviously very passionate about and it directly involves me. Anyways, what do you guys think? Crazy times. What a write-off of a year. Anyways, I'm going to enjoy this and this. Can we just take a moment to appreciate this meal right here? Here. Okay, so we got sweet corn and black beans for fiber, micronutrients. We got green beans for even more vitamins and minerals. We've got potatoes for a source of carbs after our workout. Irish people also need potatoes to live, and they're also one of the highest ranking foods on the satiation index. Bet you didn't know that. We got chicken breast for protein and then some flavoring in there as well. What a meal! I'm gonna smash this.
Entertained with all the stuff you're doing, and you know, maybe you can like look busy with all your Poor me, I don't exist. Or busy people don't exist.
Did you just watch a YouTube video of me eating my dinner watching Joey D's day in the life? Yes, you did. Also, Joe, I'm sorry, don't take it personally that I watch your videos on 1.5 speed. I watch every YouTube video on 1.5 speed. My brain and my life is in 1.5 speed. I'm big on the reusable, reusable glass.
Out.
It was very funny, uh, Joe in his day in the life video, he talks about how a lot of it is you're just on your laptop or your computer or whatever, bashing through emails and getting some online stuff done. And so that is actually just what I was doing just there. Then 9 PM, we got Warzone Wednesday with the Ghost Fam. I'm gonna wrap this vlog up. Love it, right, people? So of course, I nearly forgot to update the Call of Duty software, but we're on 94%. I'm gonna be just 2 minutes late, then we're gonna join the squad and do a bit of Warzone Wednesday. So cool that like Ghost as a brand, like, they do this, like, they're very thinking outside the box. I have not played PlayStation for many months since lockdown was at its peak, and lo and behold, I was absolutely terrible on Warzone. But regardless, it was super good to catch up with Dan and Ryan and plan the future, plan some Vegas trips. I seriously miss miss them so much, but good times on the horizon. In other news, seeing as lockdown is over and hopefully we don't go into lockdown fully again, I want to do a giveaway with my PS4 before Christmas, so give you something for Christmas. So stay tuned to my Instagram for that. I'm just trying to figure out how to do it. So yeah, anyways, on with the vlog. You gotta edit this trip first thing tomorrow morning. Oh, look, say hi to the vlog, Linda. Oh, so I'm gonna finish up the vlog here. Linda, her flight gets in at 5 or tomorrow. We're gonna have maybe a sushi night and just chill out. We're gonna have a productive weekend because Linda is killing it with A Girl to Die For, and I've got Project X as well. So we both need to be very productive and on our game. I'm finishing off my day with a literal chicken breast and sauce, and that's today. So, all right, keep it real. I'm out of here. Say goodbye. Linda will be not so virtual in the coming vlogs. All right, bye-bye. You on your knees with me. Nah, I see that body and I think about a canvas. We getting naughty, I forget about my manners. It's obvious, so we gonna need a room. And baby, we can go and see it soon.
You already know.
What makes you better than all the rest?
