How I Actually Make a Living (Unfiltered & Real)

Rob Lipsett shows how he makes money through fitness coaching, brand consulting, and content creation, using a weekend Gameplan event in Marbella as a case study. He argues community and in-person experiences beat AI-generated ebooks, and walks through his tactics: consistent publishing, outsourced sales teams, and turning online followers into paying participants.

What is going on, team? Today's Friday and it is the start of a very, very exciting weekend. My main business is the business of Gameplan, and that encompasses my coaching business, which is fitness coaching, which I've been doing for a decade now. And more recently, I've moved into the business of helping people build their personal brand and utilize social media to go from consumer to creator and live a life of freedom. And so this is all under the Gameplan world, the Gameplan universe. And one thing, if you are a coach, the main thing that is going to set you you apart, or set your company apart, set your program apart in today's day and age, is community. It is community and that personal touch and doing in-real-life events. If you don't do stuff like that, you're no better than AI and ebooks. Like, someone can just get the information from AI and ebooks for a fraction of the price. If you are a coach, the main thing you need to think about is building that personal touch and building that community. And so that is exactly what I'm doing this weekend, and I'm very, very excited for that. We got Mariah speaking, we got Haydee speaking, we got some more guys from Villa Elipsos speaking, we got myself speaking. It's going to be a day of education right here in Villa Elipsos. Then we've got one of the nicest restaurants in Puerto Banús booked. And then Sunday we got Marbella Run Club, which is my run club here in Marbella, the biggest run club in Marbella. So I'm going to be making it even bigger. We're bringing the Game Plan crew and then we're going to go to like a beach club like El Chiringuito or something. That's going to be awesome. So this is just the very start of the weekend. I'm just going to get some work done at my desk because I just know it's going to be such a full-on weekend. So I'm kind of nervous. I'm I'm like nervous and excited, but I can't wait to just get right into things. So let's kick off the weekend. I'm super excited. 3, 2, 1, let's go! This is what you want before a day of nonstop talking. I'm getting my voice box ready for 5 hours. Nervous. Nervous and excited. It's got everything you need. Cables, dumbbells, barbells, pull-ups. That's it, man. You don't have to leave the house. You guys all live here permanently. I wake up tomorrow, someone's on the bench. Scoot, scoot, scoot. David is going to be here in about 5-10 minutes. Everyone chill, get settled and enjoy. Guys, cheers. Enjoy the lifting. Thanks so much for coming. That is so nice, seriously. That's a crack. Nice. Come on in, bro. You look so sharp. Thank you, bro. Now, Lux, say hello to all your brothers. Say hello to your extended family, guys. Game plan, game plan, game plan. We're indoctrinating her early. Gotta keep things organized. I've done so much events here at the villa that I just have like party bins at this stage. I think that's like the majority of people here. So yeah, we're just waiting on How to Beast to rock up and then do a little intro, a little intro speech, get everyone fired up and crack on into it. It's been a minute, my fellow padre. Oh my God, oh my God, we are dads now. We're going to be kind of standing here and it's a nice fireside chat, so you probably want to take advantage of getting One of the limited seats there as well. You jump down on the couch. Yeah, nice, nice. It's like musical chairs. Guys, welcome here today to the Lipsett. That is just my one main mission, for you guys to leave here today feeling better and feeling more equipped.
I've been uploading videos probably, I think, 9 years. I started 2016, really kind of committed to my upload schedule 2017, and then, well, I'm even gonna go even harder on this shit.
I'm gonna invest in the nicer camera here. I'm gonna get the drone out.
You know, it gets easier at that point, but that's the heart, that's the inflection point.
It's like a battle until you get to that inflection point.
You'll be attacking it at such a deeper level than 90% of the competition that if you do it long enough with that mindset, and it's not just YouTube but anything, like, you're going to get to some level of success.
Alright, we can stop here, okay? Do the shit that you have to do and outsource absolutely everything else.
Once you're consistently making content, you're getting channel growth. Ideally, you just lock in like the same 3 or 4 monthly sponsors because I think it feels a little less salesy to the audience.
So what you want to do is align yourself with brands and that you work with in the long term. That's like infinitely better.
I'd make sure that you're tailoring the hook of each video to that specific piece of content. And that's actually a very good thing to do when you're watching YouTube videos, is to notice how different people do their hooks.
All right, so we're having a little halftime lunch break. I did a t-shirt change, of course. I was wet in buckets, but David had a beast. I mean, he absolutely killed that. I just asked him to speak for 30 minutes, we went for close to 2 hours, and just— and that itself, like, the enthusiasm he puts in, like, get yourself some friends that would like support your business and to put in their time and energy like it's their own. Shout out David! I'm just— I'm so grateful. Everyone's buzzing after that. So we're all very hungry now, we're getting a little lunch break, and then we're heading back to the villa and we have Simon Shaw and Marianne to finish off the day. But today is just going like so well. Like, I was worried how it was going to go and it's just going better than expected, so I'm relieved. Time for me to eat. I haven't ate today. On these days when I'm so busy, I always forget to eat. Time for me to eat and then get back to work.
Life is just right.
The green I think it's a really good group. I think everyone's gelling well. Dave's talk, what the fuck? I thought it was going to be 30 minutes. Popped in a full podcast there.
When I go to a mastermind, I love when someone gives me just tactical stuff. Do this, do that. Not very high level. So I want to give you something tactical, but I only want to speak for about 10, 15 minutes and then I want to pass it over to everybody. There's ways that we can frame the offer to be charging way more money to a smaller group of people. Most men, people in general, they're scared of not unlocking their full potential in any of those 3 areas, right? Even if you are already successful, you think, how much more have I got left in the tank?
So 10 years ago, in that Gymshark Jeff Seid era, yes, physique was all you had essentially. Now it is just becoming increasingly, increasingly less important. To the point where you kind of alienate yourself by having such a good physique. It still is like, it's great for getting views, but you need to match it with your credibility and your information and the values you provide, the problems that you solve. I wanted to keep going. We're going well over time. Managed to get the Netherlands' top fitness YouTuber here. We have some powerhouse names here. Like, seriously. Yeah, people just knew and they kind of related to me on a personal level. I think that's what Simon also just talked about in that talk there. Like, they need to relate with you on this personal level. So instead of like hiring countless people and all of a sudden you're paying 2 grand, 2 grand, 2 grand to someone work on a freelancer basis as much as possible. So maybe hire someone for 1 month or 1 to 3 months, so it's not like permanent. Even better, what I do with my sales closers and DM centers, I work on a commission basis. I think because of AI, because of these technologies, people are going to be way more attracted to people and to emotions. Yeah. So I think it all should be much more emotional. So what I like to do is is have things kind of operate themselves, and I've removed myself as much as possible from the business. And mark my words, this is only day one. We're going to keep growing this. This is the Founders Club, and we're going to build something special. We're going to build something absolutely beautiful. So thank you all for being here today, guys. I'm not the most talented. I'm definitely not the biggest. I'm not the strongest. I'm not the most charismatic. But I will just keep showing up. It's actually borderline stupidity. Like, even if something's not working, I will blunt force head trauma until it does. I will caveman my way. So just resilience. I'll just keep showing up. Nice tequila after a hard day's work. Oh my God, tastes better when you're literally drenched in sweat. Day 2 complete, and after I do an event like this, the word that is best to describe how I'm feeling is fulfilled. Like, it is just the ultimate feeling seeing people come from online into person, and it just gives the whole content creation game so much more meaning. Like, it just makes you feel like you're like, oh, I'm actually really speaking to people with these videos. And it makes me want to just keep going with YouTube, keep going on Instagram, everything. I love what I do. I'm just seeing stuff like this, my God, it genuinely makes me feel a certain type of way. And also, when you put in a lot of effort, a lot of work, and you're tired and you're sweating, food tastes better. So we are going for an amazing dinner in Gaucho in Puerto Banús at 8 PM. We're gonna chill here for a couple of hours get fresh, and I'll see you guys down at the port to finish off the perfect day. Fantastic, you're the man! Thank you so much. Amazing. Cheers! It is the end of the day. My God, I'm feeling satisfied. So we got whole section here in El Gaucho in Puerto Banús. We are about to go in on some steaks, and after having a hard graft, a hard long day, the steak tastes better. So I'm super excited. Looks like the wine's on tap as well.
What are you guys having there?
A little champagne? Yeah, all right, well, we're here now. We're here. Crack in, guys. Crack in. Let's go. Let's eat, guys. Check that, what a nice touch. Spanish pizza.
No joke, this is actually probably the best day of my life. Amon Ipirgo!
Oh my God, oh my God, that is, that is a work of art! Oh my gosh, that is— these are chunks! Fair play, that, that is, that is solid. You're in the middle of course, that is a big boy. Fair play. Sometimes in restaurants A lot of restaurants, when you do the set menu, you know, they skimp on the portions, but these are big lots. These are bricks. End of the day, guys. We're finishing it on Porto Banús. Just walking off our steak. Everyone's fed, watered, educated, feeling fulfilled after an epic day. And I'm just so grateful for the crew here today. So shout out to Gaucho in Porto Banús. Honestly, they were so facilitating to everyone. It's just absolutely amazing evening. We're gonna chill now, and then we got day 3. We're up at 10 AM tomorrow for Marbella Run Club, the run club that I host every single Sunday at 10 AM. And then we got a little beach party afterwards. So I'll see you guys in the morning. ¡Oh! Alright, so it is the end of the weekend. Again, Gameplan takeover in Elements Gym. We also did some bits for David's community there, just a Q&A on the roof. But it's such a good atmosphere here in Marbella this weekend. So we're about to hit a session now. So it's a 5K done this morning and now a full session today. So we're going hard in every sense of the word and I absolutely love it. Leaving Elements Gym. Today is like the busiest Sunday ever. Hosting a run club, doing like a seminar on the roof of Elements, getting a workout in, actually doing as well. Our energy output is high today. Gonna go pick up Linda, gonna get slightly ready, nothing too fancy, probably like swim shorts, whatever, because I do want to jump in the sea and then eat some proper food at Chiringuito and see off the weekend. Man, I know, I know it looks like fun, but it is hard work as well. That's just fun, really.
