How I Recovered From The 10,000 Calorie Challenge

Rob Lipsett explains how he recovered from a 10,000 calorie challenge by focusing on weekly energy balance and carb cycling rather than hitting macros every day. He walks through his actual schedule: low-carb breakfast, tax meeting, gym session, and a NutriQuik sponsorship event with fans.

What's up everyone? So just making some breakfast. When I'm not eating like 10,000 calories, I'm eating kind of more normal stuff. Safe to say I'll be going low carb for a couple of days after that. But so there's like so much going on today, so I've got the help of Ben. We're gonna chill together for today. Lots of stuff to do, exciting day, I cannot wait. Let's go! Yeah, right, so we got egg whites, 3 turkey sausages, and 2 really lean pieces of bacon. Also, as you know, Ben, he is like becoming a regular occurrence on this channel now. You know, you could say he's my videographer, but it's just like, nah, it's just my bro, like, you know, it's better that way. All right, so like I said, there's a lot to do today, so we are just on the way to my accountant now. We are doing my taxes for 2015. They're due at the end of October. So like, my piece of advice is if you just do not have a clue about this, get an accountant. And it was really hard to kind of find this one because I'm in such a kind of new, strange kind of online business. So I had a previous accountant and I went in, showed him all my statements and everything, and he was like, what the hell is this? He's like, how do you make money? What do you do? He didn't understand. So I kind of, you know, searched around and find an accountant that specializes more in online businesses and social influencers. So we're going to go do that now. I can't wait to get it over and done with. Then, seeing as we're in town, I might do a bit of shopping because— oh, I forgot to say, I'm going to New York on the 25th. So, you know, I want to have some cool kind of autumn clothes for that, and like, I want to take some cool pictures. Like, New York is just the best backdrop ever. So there's that. And then while I'm in town, I'm also doing a kind of meetup sampling for my new sponsor NutriQuik, and that is going to be in Discount Supplements on Camden Street. I put up a Snapchat last night. If you want to add me on Snapchat, Rob Lipsett, that's how you stay up to date with everything. Then after that, finally going to get a workout in. Me and Ben are going to hit up Raw Gym. Um, but okay, so that is today's plan. Now the next thing I want to talk about is the question I got the most on my 10,000 calorie challenge is, how are you not fat? You know, how do you do this? Like, how do you kind of balance everything out? And first of all, I don't eat like that often or ever. That was the only time I've ever done the 10,000 calorie challenge. But I guess this kind of talk I'm about to give applies to people who do end up cheating on their diet or going over their macros, or we can even go into carb cycling on this, okay? And basically the takeaway point is it is about weekly total. It's not exactly about daily total. But it's about weekly total, you know, basically like how you eat throughout the entire week. You know, context is everything. So for example, the days leading up to that challenge, I ate very little calories. I ate very little, particularly carbs and fats. I ate high protein. I think the day before it, I ate like 1,000 calories, which absolutely sucked, but I knew I was doing the challenge the next day. And then the following 2 days, again, I ate like 200 grams of protein and like 15 grams of fat and like 20 grams of carbs. Obviously I do not recommend this. I recommend a balanced, consistent intake, but just for the, you know, situation I was in, that's what I did to balance it out, along with doing a lot of cardio. So again, weekly totals is what really matters, and it's the same with carb cycling or even refeeds. Some people like to go slightly lower carbs and save a lot of carbs for refeed at the end of the week. Some people like to change their carb intake so it's higher on training days and lower on other days, and it's really just down to personal preference. Reference and total weekly intake. I'm going to say total weekly intake one more time. And so that is basically it. Weekly energy balance will dictate how it goes. So that is it. That definitely answers a lot of questions. So now it's time to get on with the day. Hi there. Hi. Like a reception, right? Just my friend can wait in for the moment. Okay, so just out of the accountant's there and I just learned so much in that hour. Like, it's actually crazy. So much about business and yeah, feeling really good coming out of there. So me and Ben just realized we are very hungry, two very hungry guys. So we're gonna get something to eat, and we were gonna go shopping, but then obviously Irish weather kicked in. And you know, it's coming up to 1 o'clock, so maybe we'll just have a long lunch, chill out, and then go straight to this kind of meet-up sampling. Alright, so we are in town now. Oh, the rain stopped actually. But basically, just for some parking, we went into the old Raw Gym. Now comment down below if you remember this place. This is the first gym, the first proper gym I ever joined. And you know, I went in and just the atmosphere was awesome. Like, I was just some little skinny teenager and everyone was super cool to me. And you know, so the place has got a lot of sentimental value to me. So yeah, it's kind of where it all began. Man, but I don't live too near here anymore. But I definitely want to come back and do a bit of lifting here. So actually, this little room right here was the room that I sat my personal trainer exam. Yeah, it's like a spin class now, but there was like desks everywhere. Wow, I think that was like 2, maybe 3 years ago. That's crazy. What's up? So, uh, we're just grabbing a bit of lunch. I know we're going to like a sampling where there will be food, but you know, I don't want to meet everyone. I don't want to be like eating and stuff, so we're getting a quick bite to eat here. As I said, going easy on the carbs this week after that 10K challenge, so I just got kind of like a meat plate. Might dip into a few Ben's Sweet Potato Fries, might not. Anyway, so we're going to enjoy this and then walk over to Discount Supplements as it's just down the road. And yeah, I'm pumped. I can't wait to meet everyone. You know I love doing these kind of like meetup things, so yeah. Oh man, thanks so much. Yeah, no way, that is so nice. That's how you know you're an OG, man. Oh my god, like, I just love a productive day. Like, it's like, what, 2 o'clock? We already got so much done. So just finished up the kind of like meetup sampling thing. Like, I literally announced this 12 hours ago on Snapchat, so that's just like amazing. And like like, when everyone meets me in person, it's just like, it's just everyone has such nice things to say. I'm literally always humbled. But yeah, so we're gonna get back in the car now, get the day going. But that, that was awesome. I love it. Okay, so we're just outside Camera Center, and this is like Grafton Street. I know only like 28 or 30% of my subscribers are actually Irish, so for any like foreigners watching this, this is kind of like our main street in the capital city, which is Dublin. Have a look down there. It's kind of like where all the main shops are. It's like the high street. Anyways, we're going in here. This side, a camera center place that I was talking about that we're setting up a bit of a partnership with. So we're getting Sarah a new camera. We're upgrading it. Let's go on in. This place is like my dream because as a YouTuber, you're always going to be interested in cameras. Hey, back again. Hello. Yeah, what's up? We sold the— we are going to need another. Yeah, yeah, we sold it. All right, so that is kind of like everything out of the way. Uh, I think it's like after 3:00 or something now, but finally I'm getting a workout in. I'm pretty tired, so I'm going to hydrate. I've actually actually eaten— eaten— I've actually drank like hardly any water today, so I'm gonna hydrate a little bit, maybe have a little sit down and rest, then we're gonna go in and hit this pull workout. Time to get abs, you smartass. All right, so we're just about to hit the gym. So for pre-workout, I'm gonna have a good old green apple and then some non-stimulant pre-workout. So this is like citrulline malate, beta-alanine, creatine, and Agmatine. So right, that's gonna do me because I don't have caffeine after like 3 o'clock and it is like 4:13. So I know people are gonna comment down below, "13!" Whatever, let's go hit this workout. Also guys, today we're not gonna do a big like fancy edit or anything. We're both pretty tired, we had a long day, so we're just gonna do a bit of kind of raw footage and I think that'll probably like give you a better idea of how I train So just sit back, enjoy the lifting footage, and I'll probably throw in like a few tips here and there too. Someone asked me there, like, Rob, why do you always wear a belt? It's like, uh, because it makes your waist look small and makes you look really aesthetic, especially when you're wearing a baggy top. Like, come on, priorities. It's like a prime cut of steak. Alright, so you know that I'm trying to bring up my traps at the moment, so I'm hitting them pretty much every upper body day. And so I've played around like with a few exercises and this is like my core exercise. And I know you're saying, "Rob, that's a calf machine," but trust me, right? Basically, I'll demonstrate how to do it, but it basically allows you to completely target the traps and you don't have to worry about grip strength or anything. So let me show you. So— So if your grip or like your forearms giving away before your traps do, you want to prioritize your traps. Definitely give it a shot if your gym has one. Like, it just feels so good. Alright, so my pull workout is back, biceps, and traps. So done all my back exercises, hit my traps, so now just gonna finish off with some biceps. All right guys, this vlog has been going on long enough. Enough. I hope you enjoyed the kind of casual footage there. Next week we'll definitely be shooting kind of a more high-end edit, but thank you so much for watching. I'll see you in the next video. Be sure to subscribe, comment, follow along, and of course, keep it real.
