How I Train My Girlfriend

Rob Lipsett trains his girlfriend Linda through a six-exercise glute workout: barbell squats, hip thrusts, split squats, straight-leg deadlifts, cable kickbacks, and hamstring curls. He emphasizes heavy compound work for women and shares technical cues on form, footwear, and progressive overload.

Welcome to today's video. Today we're going to be training glutes with my girlfriend, Linda. Yes, she exists. She's real. Now oftentimes Linda is the one behind the camera, but we've got Blaz here today to capture an epic session between us. And we actually train together pretty much every single day. And I think that is a huge component to our relationship. It adds a lot of value to our relationship. And it's one of the reasons why we've been together a long time. You train together, you stay together. 4 years. So we're going to hit glutes. Glutes, of course. What else would we train? So let's get into it. Give the video a thumbs up, subscribe, and let's go. You pee, Marbella. What a day. On today's menu, we got barbell squats, hip thrusts, split squats, deep V straight leg deadlifts, and then some isolation work— ham curls, kickbacks. So 6 exercises. Let's get through it. The rep range is typically 3 sets of 8 to 12, but we might go a little bit higher towards the end and heavier at the start. Tip number 1 is choose a flat shoe or barefoot. So Linda is already getting undressed. Goddamn video has just started, she's already taking things off. So Linda squats barefoot. If you don't like doing it barefoot, Converse or Vans are a good option, but don't wear the big massive trainers. Like, don't wear these, okay? Pretty much don't wear that or it's going to be like squatting on a mattress, okay? So go flat foot or a flat sole shoe. You want to have the bar so you're not on your tiptoes, unstable, trying to get it off. And you also don't want too low that you're pretty much doing half a squat before you get into your working set. So get a comfortable level.
I think just below shoulder level is usually perfect.
If you get 60 kg for 3 to 5 reps, I'm gonna bring you down to Portobedus and you can buy whatever you want.
Okay.
Okay. Okay, so that makes things interesting, right? Trainers, if you want to motivate your female clients, just tell them you'll bring them shopping after the session. Maybe you shouldn't say that if you're not in a relationship with them. Might sound kind of weird, but if you are, it definitely works.
1, slow. 3, 4, halfway, go. 5, right, right. 6, 2 more. 1, 2 more, let's go, come on, easy, easy. Ah, perfect.
So that is 40 kg there, and Linda did that pretty easily. So I think we got the 60. Yeah, I think we got the 60. So Linda wanted the metal plates. Weighs the same, just looks a little bit more badass. So this is going to be a personal record for her. I'm gonna do pepperonis. Yeah, pepperonis. We speak in a different language. Linda's usual weight that she would do for a working set is 15 each side, so that's 50 kg. So we're doing 20 each side, 60 kg, which is pretty good for a girl of her weight. I think which is about 110 pounds, if even. Big reps. So we're going to go for about 3 to 5 reps. And this is how progress is made, especially for girls. Girls go in and they just tend to do, you know, light pump work and they don't track their weights, they don't use compound movement, they don't go for the big scary heavy plates. And that is how you build muscle, is progressive overload, especially when it comes to glutes and lower body. So let's go. 2, let's go, come on, deep, deep, deep. 3, 2 more, 2 more. Yeah, last one, last one. Oh my God, come on, push, push, push, push, push. Oh my God, that is insane. Unbelievable. Most of it right there. That's the most you've ever, ever done, ever. We have to, we have to do It's all right, right? If we're hitting the port after this, we're getting that dress you were looking at last night. And to finish, we're gonna do a massive drop set, so that is as many reps as possible to failure. So we're gonna strip it back to 5 kg each side. 4, 3 more, 2, last one. Push, push, push, push, push! So second exercise, we are doing the Booty Builders, hip thrust, glute bridges, wherever you want to call it. So this is actually my number recommendation for glutes. I know we start off with squats, which I think is probably the best overall lower body builder, but if you want to target and build just the glutes, you need to be focusing on a hip thrust movement like this. This machine, Booty Builder, the company— not sponsored, be great if it was— they are probably the best brand I've come across. I'm very lucky that the gym has one, but doing a barbell one or even with a dumbbell here resting on your pelvis is perfect as well. This machine's amazing, so I'm gonna do 3 sets of 10 on this. The squeeze at the top, very important. And if you want to get a few forced reps, go past failure, a good way to spot is just to grab this little thing right here. I think Lynn's doing okay. Pushing, let's go, 2 more. Yeah, last little, come on, 1 more, 1 more, I got you, I got you, I got you. Push, push, squeeze, hold, hold, hold, hold. Fight against it, negative rep. Go back, act like you're kind of doing it with the dumbbells. Yeah, so like you're trying to turn off a light switch on that pole. That's it. So yeah, exactly. So more like you're pushing your glutes back instead of doing a straight up deadlift, you know? Yeah.
Sweet, perfect.
Right, so let's add some weight. As you can see, Linda is keeping her neck a little bit more straight now, but that is a very common one. Look up like this and just puts yourself, your spine, in a very awkward looking position. Perfect.
So a good cue is to not do it in front of a mirror.
And just stare at the ground like so. A good one is keep your chin tucked. Okay. Because again, we all love looking at ourselves in the mirror. I'm very guilty of it. And again, just look how painful it looks. It's like your spine is in a right angle when you go like that. So you have to tuck it. That's a good one, exactly. Linda wants to break my neck. 3 more. And stretch. Perfect. Amazing. So next up, absolute killer of an exercise, and it is the split squat. There are so many variations to do this. You can do it with a barbell, free weight, dumbbell. Personally, I like doing one— doing them on a dumbbell, but they are a tricky one, especially with balance. So something you can do, Linda's preferred way of doing it, is on the infamous Smith machine, and then just use the bench to kind of balance and prop your foot up here. Again, seeing as it's a Smith machine, you're on a loaded track, so it's going to help a lot with balance and get a better contraction to be able to concentrate more. So we're just doing a warm-up set to get in the groove, find the right movement, then we're going to some weight. So again, come right down, your knee just above the ground, breathing stretch. That is perfect. Real gym partner will help you position your foot. Come on, it's like the hardest part. All right guys, so we're coming up to the end. We're doing the accessory workouts, the fun stuff. We've got the main compound movements out of the way. So now we are doing the classic cable kickback that you see everyone doing, but it's the stuff that you do before that matters. Most common thing that I see here is people pretty much doing a step-up, okay, which we've already done. So you want to keep your leg nice and straight, grab onto something firm, no pun intended, grab on something hard and firm, and you're just doing a kick back like this. So you're not using all your quads and your hams like so, you're just icing the glutes, kicking it back either to the side or straight back like this. So that's it! Get your strap on, on! The amount of sexual innuendos in this video is ridiculous.
And last one.
We're doing a higher rep range here, about 12 to 15, and then switch foot. I'm simping hard right now. I'm gonna go be tying her shoelaces. Perfect. So last accessory movement and last movement of the day is the hamstring curl. So of course it's a hamstring exercise, not particularly a glute exercise, but you do want to build up all your leg muscles. That's going to help you build your glutes as well. You see a lot of girls with some cosmetic enhancement and they got these, these big strange looking asses and they got no hamstring, no quad muscles. Like, how did you build that booty? You know, it doesn't look right. So you got to build the leg muscles around it too. So finish off some hamstring curls, just doing them lying, and Linda is going to demonstrate how to do them right now. That is the end of the workout. Give the video a thumbs up, comment, subscribe, send to a friend who wants to grow their glutes. Male or female, we all want big glutes. So anyways, that was an epic workout. Let's crack on with the day. Oh my God, no, guys, you won't believe this. So I, I just turned up today And the windows are in, the downstairs windows. This is the man behind the operation. This is, this is the real G right here. This is the top G. Oh my God, so what perfect timing. We're literally getting all the windows in. Look at that black aluminium. Oh my God, this is my first time seeing this, and this is the last little update until next month because we're going traveling. I'm in shock. I'm dying. Oh my God, what the hell? So now this part is fully done. Okay, this is the upstairs.
Let's have a look.
Oh my God. So remember, we couldn't show this last time, but the door has now been opened. Here we go. Oh my God. So As you can see, it is all done, people. They said it couldn't be done, but it's done. The floor is gloss varnish, the walls are painted, the bathroom is more or less fully done. How good does that look? Oh my God, how clean is that? We got running water, everybody! Oh my God, what a perfect update until we go traveling. So we got next week Dublin, then we got Mallorca with some other fitness YouTubers, then we got Montenegro for Linda's sister's wedding, and then we're back and we're moving into Villa Lipsett. So this is a big vlog. What a way to finish glute day with Linda, a nice epic villa update. And now travels, like I said. Thank you so much for following me on this journey. What a life, insane. Forever grateful. Keep it real.
