How To Build Confidence

Rob Lipsett went from filming on his phone at 22 to hosting sold-out speaking events. He built confidence through tiny incremental goals, used free content to collect testimonials, and balanced viral videos with expert content to drive coaching sales. The grind required long hours and patience paired with relentless action.

Yo guys, what is up? Welcome to today's video. I just woke up, just got ready, freshened up, and now I'm on the way to the meetup. Okay, so it's in the Oval, 29 to 32 is the exact address. It's about 45 minutes away, so I am gonna make a move on right now. I really want to meet you guys. I'm genuinely super psyched for that. Made For Venue is absolutely amazing. Check out that banner as well. So the event's about to start now. There's already a queue outside. We're just getting ready for the camcorder storm. All right, you guys ready? Ready for a big day? All right, let's go. Like, yeah, YouTube, it's not just numbers, it's not just views, you know, it's real people. There's so many people whose lives you change. So it's like, it would be a shame not to just keep passionate at that content. What you want to do, you just said every time you try to get out of your shell, you go back and crumble a little bit. Okay, so what you do is you just push the boat ahead a little bit, right? Small steps here and there. Okay, you push You push the boat out a little bit and you're like, "Hey, that wasn't so bad." Push out a little bit more and you're like, "That's okay, you know, I'm getting there." And you just keep making these small steps and setting these small goals. Like, if you set these massive goals and you fail, you're gonna feel bad. So set these small goals and keep moving forward. So the first time I ever started public speaking, it was in front of a small crowd and every second word was, "Uh, um," you know, I couldn't even— sometimes I'd lose my train of thought completely and I'd just stop speaking, okay? Did I give up? No. I just slowly started, you know, speaking for longer, doing bigger talks in front of bigger 100 people. And now I host my own events, sell out crowds in Dublin, London. I want to do one in Dubai and LA, and I speak for 6 hours. Do you think I just started there? No way. First talks I did were in front of like 50 people at most. So instead of setting yourself these huge goals, you crumble, you fail, you feel bad. Just take baby steps and keep on going. There's some times when I don't want to upload a video because I'm not feeling it, I'm not happy with it, and then I upload it and everyone's like, this is great. So often times we're like our own worst critic. Like we're the artists themselves. In uni, you got so much spare time. Why do you think people drink so much in uni? Because there's nothing else to do, right? But instead of, you know, going and getting drunk every day, maybe like find out some new hobbies, try some things that you've never done before. And like, I didn't even know until— I didn't start YouTube until I was 22. So like, I was always into the gym at like 20-something. I didn't know that I was so into social media and content creation and speaking on video until I was like 22. You're 19, so like you got to try your hand at so many different things. Oh shit, yes my dude, that is crazy! My book's better than yours, bro. This is better than my shot at life any day of the week. And then there's just like loads of pictures of me looking sick, so like that's the main part of it. I appreciate my arm. I'm like, wow, I was lean. It's like, no, no biceps. So when I do a video and like I talk about intermittent fasting, creatine, metabolism, you know, 6 meals a day, flexible dieting, supplements, anything. When I do an informative video, that's going to generate so much more sales than a vlog. So the vlog might get way more views, might get over 100,000 views. Informative video might get 20,000 views. But there are people who will be seeing that you're an expert in your field and they're more likely to invest in you. So it's not just about views and so on, it's about the information you're putting out. So those two things generate the most sales for me in terms of coaching. So, foreign adopters and testimonials and informative content. Viral shit like eating calorie challenges, that's gonna grow your platform, so you get them in with that and then you give them the informative content and they'll be like, oh, Okay, he's actually serious about fitness. He doesn't eat 20,000 calories that often. I did coaching for free. Like, when I first started out, I was just wanting to get those testimonials. I just wanted to get those before and afters. So I put out all this free content. I would give people like— I would give people like 3 A4 pages of information, and then they'd appreciate that so much they'd go off for a month, give me a sick before and after, and then I'm like, boom, got it. So at the I was doing public speaking for free. I was doing events for free. Now, like, I've done a public speaking event and, like, being a speaker at someone else's event, get €10,000 for an hour, you know. So did I start there? No, I started at €0 for an hour. So, you know, you're at the start now, so you gotta understand it's gonna be tough. You're gonna have to do a lot for free, but slowly over the years you'll work your way up and you'll get there. Patience, man. Yeah, yeah. So I say patience Patience, a lot as well. Patience at certain things. But if you get too patient, you never get anything done. So be patient at stuff you know you need to be patient for, but don't ever like hang around. Don't dilly-dally. I literally worked in an office at a desk. I didn't like it. There's nothing wrong with the office life if you like it. I didn't like it. And then I was combining that. 6, I would come home, have dinner, train. Then it would be 8 PM, and then I would work until 2 AM, and then I'd get up 4 hours later. Okay, so like, you know, I work 8 PM to 2 AM on my coaching and my clothing, gym wear clothing, YouTube editing videos. So I was doing that and you just have to double down. You just have to understand that you're gonna like be sleeping 4 hours for a while. People will see like one image, how much they know about you, you know? Whereas when I think the reason like Christian, you know, myself, Brandon, everyone has built such like a core community, like look at all these real people here. I think if we just did Instagram, people wouldn't even know us. Like, they don't even know what they're like. Like, you wouldn't even know what I sound like. You wouldn't know what I act like. You know, you wouldn't really know much about me from a picture. So I think video is powerful. And if you want to, you know, increase your sales, get people to trust you, get people to know you, build a community, I think you should do a bit of YouTube. Yeah. Doesn't have to be much. Like, the last month I've been like hardly uploaded because I've just been traveling around. I'm still uploading. 400 videos over the past couple of years. So even if you're doing it like once a week, something, video content's good. And even talk on your stories. So I used to be really negative. Because I was so used to just getting handed back tests and it was fail. It had a big F on it and I was like, I'm a failure. And I would joke about how stupid I am, but I'd be really hard on myself. And now I'm like, now I'm the shit. Yeah, but it's like, but it's like, so. I started in about 2015. And literally at the time I just picked— I didn't have a camera, I just picked up my phone and I was like, okay, what do I like doing? What am I good at? Okay, it doesn't have to be fitness, just whatever you're really into, you do that because people will see how into it you are. So I was— still am so into, you know, diet, training, fitness. So I just picked up my camera and like the phone and I was like, this is how I train every day, this is how I eat every day, this is what I do. And people just start to follow along. And I also love social media. I think it's amazing, right? So people see that as well, and so they're like, it's not forced, he's actually enjoying posting every day. Really talk about what you're passionate about, you know? Don't try— like, let's say you're not that into fitness, don't just jump on fitness, man, because everyone is. To see you go from that to where you are, it's just incredible. So it's so nice to see that. I'm You're a legend, dude. But to even add to that, like, my first time at BodyPower, I was like queuing up to see Christian. Like, literally, like, I was like the biggest fanboy ever of like anything Christian made of Alphalete. So to now be a part of it, to be best friends, you know, to be in with the whole crew, it's just like— it's a Cinderella story. It's crazy. 5 years I've been following you. No way, that's true OG. I only uploaded my first video on September 1st, 2014, so that must be right on there. If I looked like this at 17, I'd start fitness YouTube a lot earlier. See, follow my tips and this is what happens when you're 17. This is like, you can't even describe how OG this was. Like, so this was like my first year, the first year doing YouTube, and here's me like thinking I'm so great. I was doing like a clothing line, first or second year or something, okay? And I designed this little crappy logo on an app on my phone. Like, that's how— like, my motto is like, just do it and figure it out later. So this was like the definition of that. But either way, like, they sold loads, people really liked it. They obviously withstood the test of time. So like, merch and, you know, clothing is something I definitely want to do again for a dance line, but this This is just a trip down memory lane for me. I'm like, oh man, I'm getting emotional. It's crazy, bro. All my first ever videos, they're all getting like 1,000 views here and there. Now when you go back to them, you see they've got loads because people watch my old videos. But at the time, they're getting hardly any views. Did I stop? No, I was like just loving making videos. And then one day you wake up and it's like you'll see like all this activity, all these notifications, and you'll be like, what the hell? And it's kind of like, feels like you won the lotto and then shit just snowballs from there.
I want to reach as many people as possible. I want to inspire as many people as possible. I want to share a story and let people know, you know what, people like Christian Guzman, Rob Lipsett, you know, Maxine and all these people I used to watch and they made me feel like I can do it. I want to do the exact same thing for all you people out there. So I recently started my own business as well. I brought you a hoodie.
Oh, sick!
I don't know if you'd like it or you want to take it.
Of course, mate. I'm so grateful.
It basically means unlimited strength, and the idea behind it is that everyone has infinite brawn within them. It's just up to you whether or not you want to tap into that infinite brawn to achieve—
Oh, but, dude, I'm getting motivated here. I'm getting chills. I'm like, whoa.
One of the best human beings on the planet. He's one of my favorite human beings on the planet. I absolutely love his channel. It's been a pleasure to meet him.
Look how happy he is. I'm buzzing. No, but seriously, look, we just had a chat there for the last couple of minutes. Telling me everything about his clothing company, his mission, what he wants to do. And like, I'm just like, Enoch, I'm just like, you're the man, seriously, you got me feeling inspired. So it's only a matter of time until you blow up. So we were talking about sales earlier, and it's gonna differ a lot, but one thing that is common in every industry, right, show you're an expert in your field. So when I'm making the most sales with my clients and stuff, I'm showing that I know what I'm talking about, about training and nutrition When I'm selling most tickets for my events, you know, on content creation, I show that I know about social media, about viral marketing, about marketing in itself. So you need to show you're an expert in your field. So if you're talking about real estate, you need to show people you know every goddamn in and out there is to real estate. So people are just like, they'll have the confidence to go to you if they want to buy something because they're going to trust giving you their money because they're like, oh, she knows what she's doing. It's like when people are looking to get ripped, they're like, Rob is, you know, he walks the talk, but he also gets clients ripped. So when I post before and afters of my clients and they're like, okay, I trust you, I trust where my money's going. Work on your strengths and stop trying to please people, especially people that don't even care about you. You know, like, like there's people that are like, like, you know, people in your school, your guidance counselor that doesn't even know what you're into, but they're telling you you got 'You gotta go to this college, you gotta do that, you gotta study this, you gotta do this internship.' And they don't even like— they don't even ask you what you love to do. They don't even ask you what your passions are, you know. So we're always like getting told to do this and that, and it's like no one knows but you of what you really love to do. And if you're doing what you love to do, you're gonna be the best at it. Go look at anyone who's at the top of their sport, like freaking LeBron James, like Gary Vaynerchuk, Tony Robbins. Like when he speaks on on stage, he's on fire. You can tell he's genuinely into it. So you look at anyone and it's the same across the board. They're the best at what they do because they love what they do. So I actually don't even like saying find your passion because it's been said so many times, but it's true. 2017! Yeah, she's aged about 30 years in 2 years. I love doing expos, especially when someone comes up to you that you've met before. It's like, for them to actually want to come see you again, You must have left a good impression on it, so like, I really appreciate that, bro. I was literally the exact same. I was working a job I didn't like, you know, driving a car that would, you know, break down a lot on me, pretty much. Yeah, yeah. And I'd be like, what's wrong with it? And like, and the mechanic would be like, I'm fucking out. I'd be scraping ice off a car in the morning, you know. Everyone does this, you know, this is normal. So like, everyone starts there. I didn't start in the of oldies. Yeah, I didn't start like this with all these trips. So what you got to do is don't, don't look at chapter 10. Maybe go back to my first ever videos, first ever post. That's from chapter 1, working banggates in that weird house. You know, that, that's, that video's still going around. But so, you know, it's cool that you can look at that and be inspired. People think like, oh, I want to sit on a beach, I want to chill out all day. Trust me, you don't. You want to find something you love, you want to let it kill you, you want to work hard at it. There was like times where I was lining up to meet Christian, and then we worked together. Now we're best friends. So, you know, network, network, network. Meet up with some other Romanian YouTubers and just keep putting in the grind, man. Like, 12,000 subscribers is a really solid base. Like, it's hard to even get past 10,000. Think about it like this, right? All you got to do is do that 10 more times, you're at 100,000. You have the silver plaque and everything. So keep at it, man. Keep doing what you're doing. Keep working hard. Be consistent. Alright boys and girls, so the day is coming to an end and you can probably hear from my voice just, you know, how much of a good time it was. And it just reminds you why you do what you do, you know. You get in these amazing conversations with people, you get to meet the people that watch your videos, and you know, sometimes they ask you some questions and that you kind of forget to ask yourself, and you're like, oh my God, that's amazing, I haven't I hadn't even thought about that. You just go in and in and in, and it's just a great day. And we're even still going. Like, so many people showed up that the event closed. We had till 5, and we're now just taking it out on the street because we're determined to meet everyone. But so we're feeling really rewarded, feeling high on life, to be honest. And then tonight's going to be amazing as well. And also, the man behind the camera today is all the way from Slovenia. Slovenia. I always— Slav something. But it's Blaz. The person who helped me in January edit all my videos. So he came out to the UK and we're just gonna have a great time. So it's great to finally meet and physically create some videos together, not just edited, not just online. So yeah, great day in general, and you can probably see how happy I am and how kind of full my heart is. So yeah, it's awesome.
Unreal day, and the positivity at these events is just amazing. Like, you can really, really feel it like as an athlete being here, uh, chatting to everybody, man. What an impact Alphalete is making. Like, it's just so awesome. Like, everybody just— it's just been a freaking good vibing day. Um, even so good that, you know, we did— we did all the hours inside where there was so many people that the line just kept going. We're finishing it off outside, all right? We're leaving nobody without meeting us.
Hell yeah, it is fucking awesome, man.
Yeah, yeah.
That was probably the best. I think it was like, it was the first time we've actually got a venue. Usually we just go to a park and hope it doesn't rain. We didn't even think about it. Yeah, we're just gonna— yeah, 3 months from now we'll go on a Saturday, it'll be fine. 3 months from now on day 1, man. Day 1. Oh, day 1. Literally, literally, we are day 1. Rob's seen all of it, man. He's seen everything. There's never been an event or meetup in Alfie Meep that I haven't been at. Tell people, how you feeling after like People queuing up to you and telling you about your journey. Incredible. It's just, uh, it's like it doesn't really hit you till you're kind of like done slowing down. Yeah, but man, it's insane. And I'm thinking my feet hurt real bad, but that's— that's just— it's looking awesome. It's just— can't even put it in words. Yeah, that's why we do what we do every day. Yeah, that is literally it. And, um, tonight we're gonna have some fun. I'm gonna lay down first for a little bit. We're gonna stay in, maybe get some pizza. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for a little bit, and then we're going to party.
