I Ate Like The Rock For 24 Hours And This Is What Happened

Rob Lipsett eats The Rock's Hercules diet for 24 hours: seven meals of cod, chicken, steak, rice, and sweet potatoes. He struggles through massive portions, feels bloated during his chest workout, and spends hours cooking and eating. The diet works but isn't sustainable for most people without personalization.

Now it's time to see who has the heart. Now is the time to prove to yourselves and prove to everyone out there that you are worthy of something on earth. And you're able to do something special that no one else in the world can do. Every champion has felt it. Go out there, take no prisoners, have no regrets, have no fear. Lay it all out on the line. Every president has felt it, every king has felt it, every lion —has melted.
All right, boys and girls, it's no mystery that I love a food challenge. Beat the 10,000 calories in 1 hour challenge, the 10,000 calories in 1 day challenge, the 20,000 calorie challenge, the 30,000 calorie challenge, you name it, I love it, okay? And you guys seem to enjoy it too. So today you're getting a new food challenge and we're taking on The Rock's daily diet that he had for 22 weeks leading up to the Hercules movie.
Please welcome to my Hercules restaurant. Ah, thank you, I appreciate that. Quite a spread we have here. In front of you, Brian, is the 12 Labors diet.
So meal number 1, we got 10 ounces of cod, 2 whole eggs, 2 cups of oatmeal. Easy. Meal number 2, we got 8 ounces of cod, 12 ounces sweet potato, 1 cup of veg. Meal number 3, oh, we changed things up a little bit. We got 8 ounces of chicken. Glory be to the world. 2 cups white rice, 1 cup veg. Meal number 4, we got 8 oz cod. There's a lot of cod. 2 cups of rice, 1 cup veg, 1 tablespoon fish oil. We got 8 oz steak, 12 oz baked potato, spinach salad for meal number 5. Meal number 6, you guessed it, we got 10 oz of cod, 2 cups of rice, and a salad. Meal number 7, this one is just and so enjoyable. This sounds amazing. This is like 5-star. 30 grams of protein, 10 egg white omelette, 1 cup of veggies, and a tablespoon of omega-3 fish oil. Now at the moment I am cutting down, and I can tell you I cannot get shredded on 5,000 calories a day. Maybe The Rock can because he's literally 2 of me. I am Hercules! But I can't. And everyone, you know, their goals and the amounts they eat will be different, you know, depending on their height, their weight, their activity, their job, their lifestyle. So many factors come into play. But either way, I'm just gonna— I'm still gonna do the challenge and just work it into my week somehow and make my weekly average come out as it should be. So let's have meal number 1. It's even unenjoyable to open. It's like opening it is a workout. Tams, sweet. Bit of cod for breakfast. But for real, I eat like tuna and eggs like most days. Most days for breakfast. So, um, I just think I'll be good at this diet. Like, I swear, Rock, if you're watching this, I think we should be friends. Oh God, the shell went in it! Don't look at me! No way! No, this can't be right!
Carbs are your friend.
I like the way you think.
Come on. What? 182 grams. See, I'm like really giving the most here. Oh God. Okay, so this is meal 1. I'm putting you here. It's nearly finished cooking. So we got the 2 whole eggs. We got the cod. That's looking pretty good. And then the oatmeal. I think that's going to be the most challenging. Look at the size of that thing. See, we're trying to do the American conversion and he said 2 cups of oatmeal. Came to 180 grams. I don't know. Please, Americans, comment down below. Give us that grams to oats to cup conversion rate, please. And then the oat. With my food challenges, I always show the time that I start at and that I finish at, even though it's not like a time challenge. But as you can see, my phone is connected to the Wi-Fi and it is 10:48. 23. Let's do it. Let's eat. I'm gonna start with this. So that is the cod and the eggs gone. 3 minutes. Told you I can eat. But so now this is gonna be the hard part, I think, is the oats. The size of that thing. Um, that was actually quite nice. I'm gonna start eating cod a little bit more in my diet. Maybe I'll become a famous actor. But right, okay. Oh my God, they are— okay, I think I didn't use enough water. That's like baked cake. That's actually like a cake. All right, okay, let's do this. Okay, right, nearly done. That was the worst part, without a doubt. All right, so it is 10:32. So is that under 10 minutes? 9 minutes. 9 minutes. Damn, I still got it. It's off to a good start. It's off to a good start. Yeah, and by the way, Louis lives in Northern Ireland. So it took him a while to get down here this morning. So I would have started at like 6 AM or something, but how long is the drive like?
It actually took 2 and a half hours.
Okay, 2 and a half hours. So yeah, we just started at like 10, but uh, no excuses. Most people start at 7. Yeah, well, you know what, The Rock would not make excuses. If he started at 2 PM, he'd still get it done. That's what we're gonna do.
A few moments later.
Just dissect this car. Alright, sweet potato. 12.5. You happy with that? Yeah, I'm happy with that.
Table for veggies.
Well, there we go everyone, that is meal number 2. Let's go. Alright everyone, so we're on to meal 2 and that is 8 ounces of cod, 12 ounces sweet potato, 1 cup of veg and it looks absolutely beautiful. I'm actually really looking forward to this meal. So, It is 11:09, so let's get cracking. And we are going to watch a bit of Steve Cook. Shout out Steve. Remember, I followed him when he had like 2,000 subscribers, so that's how long I've been on that Steve hype for. But yeah, enjoy. 11:16. So like what, 7 minutes? It's ridiculous. It's actually like, I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed. So I usually train around midday, usually for about like an hour, maybe an hour and a half. It's legs. So today, um, it is going to be a chest day, or push day in particular, which is where I train shoulders, chest, and triceps. All your pushing muscles. All my workouts are linked in the description box. Do not forget to go check them out. But we're about to hit Raw Gym. I'm really excited. Safe to say I'm fueled up. I usually don't like eating this much before a workout. Sometimes I even train fasted. But anyways, we're going to take some pre-workout and yeah, we're going to hit a big session. Let's go! Open the drawer. It's right there. The gains take place— not really. It's all about your training and nutrition, but it's kind of nice to have some little bit of this to dabble in here and there. So we are going to take some Legend pre-workouts, new flavor. We're gonna have some Scythe intra-workout and also some Pump. They are the products I'm taking right now. And then usually I'd have like a post-workout shake, but that's not what meal plan says we're gonna have. So we'll see what meal 3 is saying when we're back from the gym. Alright, so I always recommend when you go into the gym you have a plan of attack so you're not wasting time, you're not chatting to everyone, you're not on your phone. You go in, you kill it, and you leave, right? So today's workout is gonna be incline dumbbell presses. We're gonna start start off with. Gonna go on a flat bench press, shoulder press, dips, lateral raises, chest flies, tricep pushdowns, and then finish off with some tricep overhead extensions. So that is gonna have my chest, my delts, and my triceps on fire. We're gonna be looking pumped and we're gonna put all that cod to use. Let's get it! Gonna be honest, gonna be completely honest, that was not the best workout. It was decent, we got it done, but I definitely felt very like full and sluggish and bloated. The Rock probably metabolizes that shit in like 10 minutes, okay? Me, not so much. I felt like I actually had a rock in my stomach. But either way, we got it done. It was a decent workout, and now we're about to go home, have meal 3, and then we're gonna go for a little bit of a walk because, uh, once it's not raining in Dublin, that's like an excuse to go outside. So yeah, feel good. Give me the news. Give me the good news or the bad news. What's meal 3?
The good news is Rob just smashed a sick workout, and I did too. The bad news is he's still full and he has to eat 8 ounces of chicken, 2 cups of white rice, and 1 cup of veggie.
Okay, at least we get a bit of chicken. I thought it was going to be cod again. 7.9. All right, post-workout meal, meal number 3, is 8 ounces of chicken. We've got a cup of veggies and then 2 cups of rice, so I'm just going to use this full packet. Uh, yeah, I'm very excited for a change in something that isn't cod. But yeah, so a little bit of chicken here, some rice. Yeah, it's good. I am very full, and no doubt about that. But, um, I think we're going well. It's like not even too late in the day, and then after this we just got 4 more meals. All right, 1:47, let's go. Um, I think the key is to actually eat fast because if you eat too slow— well, this is actually good if you're trying to lose weight. If you eat too slow, it like your appetite registers in your brain. Just eat so fast. Your brain, your body's like, did that meal even just happen? So yeah, speed eating for the win. Let's go. That was definitely the easiest meal so far. How long? Oh yeah, geez, we're not even rushing it. Like 1:52. Oh my God, I eat so fast. My mama could see this and actually be like, Robert, Slow down with your food. Don't eat too fast. Yeah, that was the easiest meal so far. Uh, the chicken was just like easy to get down. The steak, I think that's coming up next, or it could be the one after. That's a big— that's gonna be a big one. But, uh, we're gonna go for a walk now, chill for a little bit, go on our laptops, and then yeah, knock out 3 more meals. Literally, it was blue skies, sun 20 minutes ago, and now it's snowing. Now it's snowing, so we're not gonna go for— it's hailstones. So we're not gonna go for a hike. It's April, by the way, so like 1st or 2nd of April or something. But yeah, so we're not going to go on a hike. Uh, probably just gonna get some work done on the laptop. We'll see, maybe I'll take Louis to get some food that I can't eat and just watch him enjoy his lovely flavorsome food while I eat another cod. But either way, um, we got 4 more meals to go. And yeah, I'm feeling good. I think I'm getting hungrier, right? Day. But yeah, we'll see.
Definitely not going for a hike though.
Right, so after this we've only one more serving of cod, so really looking forward to that. And here we go. So what's this? It's like usual 8 oz of cod, cup of veggies, 2 cups of rice. I actually know the meals off by heart at this stage. Uh, so we're going to eat this and then we're going to go down the road. I'm actually booked in to get a facial all day. Like, I bet, I bet The Rock gets facials. Of course he does. He's got like— he looks so good for his age. Like, I bet she gets him every week. So the time on the clock is 4:49. As you can see, connected to the Wi-Fi. 3, 2, 1, let's go.
Okay. No.
4:51. Okay, 4:52, 4:52. That is ridiculous. Oh my God. Okay, wait, that's like 3 or 4 minutes.
You've got card on your chin.
Oh, thanks for telling me. That's a true friend. Your enemies will let you go around with that on your face all day. See, Louis is a true friend. Yeah, that was, that was, um, amazing as usual. Love it! That was great. So now we're gonna have to pamper ourselves a little bit. While we're out, we're gonna go pick up some fish oil, as I noticed that's on the meal plan. I don't know if Rock puts that on his food or if he just shovels it into his mouth, mad bastard. I think that's what he does, just takes spoons of it. So yeah, we'll go get some of that while we're out now, and yeah, we'll down some fish oil. Can't wait. Woody.
Yeah, that's right.
I don't know who that is though. You've had a bad upbringing. You've had a bad childhood if you don't know who this is. Okay, so we've gone after 55. I'm not 55, bro.
I can't wait to go dead in this. 8.5 ounces. Really looking forward to that.
Right, so the day is getting on and look, The Rock, Dwayne, I don't think your portion sizes are big enough, right? Just don't take it personally, right? It's just my opinion, okay? I like larger portion sizes. On a serious note, when I'm like sticking to my normal diet, I actually do intermittent fast most days. So instead of having like 6 small meals meals. You should have 3 large meals. Again, if you want to look at some other videos on my channel, I've gone in on this topic a lot, but today we're just concentrating on doing Rock's diet. So, but anyways, I'm going to double up on meals. This is going to be meal 5 and 6. So meal 5 is going to be a big 8-ounce steak and potatoes. How good does that look? Like, that actually does look really good. Um, that and some spinach. And then meal 6 is more cod. I have basmati rice and then a mixed salad there. So we're gonna put all these on our plates, we're gonna put them down beside each other, and we're gonna dig in. So this is the big boss. This is without a doubt the biggest meal so far because we're doubling up on meals. It is 8:35. All right, so we started at 8:35, it's now 8:41. I really enjoyed that steak. It was such a nice change from cod. Anyways, back to cod. Alright, so now it is 8:47. Not too sure how long that one was. If you can write down in the comments, if you can do the math, that would be much appreciated. But so that was our last kind of main meal, or like our kind of carb and vegetable meal. So last meal, meal number 7, that I'll probably have in like an hour, just before before bed. And there's a protein shake and some egg whites. That's going to be a walk in the park. That's like dessert. Okay, that's— that protein shake is going to be the most flavorsome thing that I've had all day. So we're on the home straight. We're going to get Louie fed as well. And then yeah, I'm going to chill out for a little bit. That's the challenge in the bag. Comment down below any other people's days that you want to see me eat. Like, I think this is a cool series because it doesn't entirely throw me off my diet or my routine. And it's fun for you guys to watch. It's interesting for me to even try out. I'm gonna do a little Q&A at the end. So yeah, all round great video. 5 minutes later. Right, so 2 of the meals had a tablespoon of fish oil on each one of them. So we had to go get this in the shop. Um, right, this is gonna be disgusting. I don't know if The Rock puts this on his meals. I hope he doesn't. Uh, or if he just has them with a tablespoon. So much fish in this diet.
Okay.
Oh my God, like, come on, man, use fish oil tabs. Like, for real, they come in a convenient capsule and everything. Why isn't he using fish oil capsules? One hour later.
Here we go.
So we got 10 egg whites, a little bit of veg. So let's put that in there, right? So 30 grams of protein, 1 scoop. This is going to be the most enjoyable part of my day, so I need to choose the flavor right. We got cereal milk, we got coffee ice cream. Peanut butter cereal milk is my all-time favorite. Then we got the Christmas flavors, snickerdoodle and white chocolate peppermint bark. First of all, before we go any further, discount code and link is in the description box. Second of all, I think it's got to be peanut butter cereal milk.
10:33.
Got a protein shake here, 10 egg whites, and then we're going to do a little Q&A at the very end and then finish up this video. Hope you're enjoying it. Give it a thumbs up if you find it interesting or entertaining. But yeah, I am so excited to finish off this full day of eating. Time. 3 minutes. Smashed it. Done. Full day of eating like The Rock over and done with. Not feeling too bad. I've definitely felt so much worse after previous food challenges. They did 10K in 1 hour. I was like, I'm gonna have to go to hospital. But that was all right. All right, so first of all, how are you feeling? Not that bad. Obviously very full and a little bit sluggish, but yeah, I'm all right. Like, I'm definitely like functioning.
Okay, which meal did you like the best?
The best was definitely the steak. Like, the steak and potatoes, that was proper good. And after tired today of eating such bland food. That protein shake, like, I was down in that. I was loving it. I was, I was at one with that protein shake just there. I was making sweet love to that protein shake.
Who would this diet work for? Like, other than The Rock, would this work for anyone else or not?
No, absolutely not. Well, unless you have the same, like, height, weight, you know, activity, occupation, everything as The Rock, it's not going to work for you. And everything when you're doing out a diet and training plan should be personalized. That's what I do with all my clients. That's what I do with myself. And it should also be changed as results go on. You know, if you're not losing weight, maybe you need to lower your calories, up your exercise, up your cardio. At the end of the day, it's all about energy expenditure versus energy intake. You know, calories in, calories out. That's the main thing. Obviously, so much more stuff comes into play, but that is like the fundamental of weight loss and weight gain. So yeah, you know, this was really just going to work for The Rock or anyone who's just like it.
Um, how long do you think you spent cooking in total?
That was one of the most surprising things of today. I spent more time cooking and washing and cleaning up than I did eating, like, without a doubt. Um, so like, obviously I think The Rock— I'm imagining as someone prepped his meals. But yeah, I think an hour and a half was honestly spent cooking.
What do you think is missing from the diet? Were you craving anything throughout the day?
Yeah, definitely something like sweet and cold, like even some yogurt, frozen yogurt, low-calorie ice cream, something. Like that protein shake was a godsend, but yeah, I definitely think it just needs something to like sweeten it up a little bit. Like even some fruit, like there's actually no fruit. Even something like a little bit of fruit or smoothie would be amazing.
How sustainable do you think this diet is?
I don't think The Rock can even sustain it, hence why, you know, he has his epic cheat days here and there. Uh, so Rule number 1 with me or any of my clients or anyone I work with, and anyone who's like fairly knowledgeable in the field of nutrition and training, will tell you that there's no point following the best diet plan if you can't sustain it. So sustainability and adherence is just above all else. So yeah, I don't think it's too sustainable.
What difference do you think it would make adding, for example, a low-calorie condiment such as hot sauce to each and every day? That's the way you did it?
You don't have a little soy sauce? A little Jimmy's hot sauce?
Jimmy's hot sauce? Soy sauce? No. No? No, not at all.
This is crying out for some soy sauce.
It's crying out to be put in your mouth. That's the only thing it's crying out. There's no soy sauce involved. There's no soy sauce on the HERC diet.
Yeah, that is one thing that stood out for me. Like, hot sauce has got little to no calories depending on the brand. A little bit more flavoring. Like, I was using like salt, pepper, and chili flakes. There, and you know, that helped a lot. But I think a little bit more seasoning and flavoring to make your meals come alive would go a long way.
And the final question is, how have you felt throughout the day?
Constantly full, especially after that bowl of oats. I honestly think that was the hardest part of the whole day, and I actually felt my worst when I was working out. So if I was to do that again, or if I was Rock, I'd put more meals later in the day so I was a little bit kind of lighter, more agile when I was working out. But yeah, so that's my feedback. Hope you enjoyed the video. I hope you found it interesting, enjoyable, and give it a thumbs up. And of course, subscribe if you're new here. I promise I won't let you down. Keep it real. I'm out of here. Peace.
