I Ate No Carbs For 24 Hours And THIS Is What Happened...

Rob Lipsett ate almost no carbs for 24 hours before a photoshoot, dropping water weight on a diet of steak, eggs, and chicken totaling 5g carbs and 80g protein. He stresses the loss was water, not fat, and that real results come from sustained calorie deficits, not carb cuts.

What's going on everyone, welcome to today's video. Now today is going to be a full day of low carb eating, which I don't usually do. I don't think I've ever actually done one of these on this channel. The reason for that is I'm not a fan of low carb diets, okay? I think they do have their place, but oftentimes people that cook carbs out of their diet, it's too restrictive, it's not sustainable, their workouts start to suck, and, uh, life is not as good without carbs pretty much. They see quick initial results because the drop in water weight when you consume less carbohydrates, your glycogen levels are going to go down. You'll see a quick drop in water weight. Now, why am I doing a low-carb diet today? The reason for that is I've got a photo shoot tomorrow, so today's going to be a bit of a challenge to see how much water weight that I can drop in 24 hours, or how different my body looks in 24 hours of cutting out carbs, doing some cardio, weight training, and, um, also going on a hike too. So let's see how it is. Uh, I'm going to show you everything I eat today I know I'm going out for lunch as well, so I'm gonna have to make some smart choices. I'm mainly gonna be sticking to stuff like whey protein, steak, chicken fillets, egg whites, all that good stuff. But anyways, give the video a thumbs up, let's get into it. And I'm gonna give you guys a physique update now and then one tomorrow, then we're gonna do the photo shoot too. So let's get into it. Here we go, current physique. Been cutting around 10 weeks, um, obviously following the flexible dieting, traveling a lot, so we still have that kind of extra bit of condition to get to. So I'm gonna I'm gonna take a video in the exact same spot tomorrow and, um, we'll see if I even look any leaner. So yeah, it's the morning, I haven't eaten anything, I drank a can of Monster, uh, it's only like half a liter of water. So yeah, here we go. Just stepped on the scales there, we are coming in just under 160, so that is again pretty lean. And usually when I'm cutting I'm around 160, and then when I'm bulking just over 170. Also, new Alfie, just launched fresh out of the pack. This is the kind of performance range, it's called Aspire. So this is a medium. That feel when you don't eat enough carbs and you can't even break the label. Oh, that was a struggle, the natty struggle. So it kind of like falls on you with the material. Perfect fit. And again, the discount code, or the code, the athlete code to support me is Lipsett. Links in the description box. Appreciate everyone who uses that. First thing I'm gonna have, I just realized I was gonna intermittent fast, but then I realized that I won't be eating for a long time. I got a meeting as well to go to before the gym. So I'm gonna have 2 of these Quarter Pounders. They're pretty lean as far as I know. And then I'm also gonna crack 1 egg. And that is what we're gonna have for breakfast. Even when I am doing my, like, usual cutting diet, again, there's just so many videos on this channel of me doing that. And this would be a pretty standard breakfast that I have. So we're also going to season this, put a bit of pepper and chili mix. Pretty delicious if you ask me. Maybe I'll just follow this diet forever. Like, nah, cook this up, I'll show you when it's done. And then meeting, then gym, then meeting Linda's mother for lunch where I'm gonna stare at their meals and have black coffee. Then we're doing a hike and then I got so much admin work, uh, to kind of plan out the summer. So yeah, it's a good day. So in terms of macros today, it's going to be the usual 200 grams of protein. Fats are probably going to be a little bit higher than usual due to my food choices. And again, we're keeping carbs as low as possible. Another thing I want to talk about is when it comes to low-carb diets, right, a lot of people, they remove carbs from their diet or they remove anything from their diet, be it vegan, gluten-free, Paleo, Atkins, even intermittent fasting, if you remove a whole meal from your diet like breakfast, okay, it's not some magic that's happening. It's the big drop in calories, okay. You remove a food group, what's gonna go down? Your calories are gonna reduce drastically. And you know we keep it real on this channel. No bullshit information, okay. How to lose fat, it is be in a caloric deficit and eat less calories, okay. So don't think there's any magic to low carb. Don't think there's any magic to Paleo, right. It's all down to your total caloric intake. And then when it comes to body composition, stuff like macros and weight training come into play. But in terms of weight loss, the fundamental is a calorie deficit. And anyone in the know is gonna tell you this. Anyways, it is time for my delicious breakfast. Oh my God, look at that. That looks like a murder scene. Right, let's eat. Right, so it's time for everyone's favorite part of the video. It is a sped up time lapse of me eating food. And we're also gonna put some of this on. This is not sponsored. I don't know where I found this, in some random butcher's actually. And so per portion is 0.4 grams of carbohydrates, so we should be okay. So that is all done. Now some run off to Downeybrooke, that's where the meeting is. I'm actually gonna schedule a lot of my meetings now outside the gym. Helps a lot. So do the meeting, then gym, then meet Linda's mom and hike. So yeah, all right, let's go. I'm feeling really satisfied after that as well. All right, my friends, so meeting is around in there and the gym is right over there, so perfect logistics. Let's go in, smash this out, and then hit a session.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Every week now I switch to a new style. 212s in the back just blew out. Everything I do end up in the news now. Yeah, leave the club with a few now. There's some Hollywood girls and they do I'm drunk, I'm drunk in the mood now. 2 AM, what you want to do now? Little baby, pass the Stella. Don't spill on me, that's Margiela. Got this Oakland game to tell her. Goddamn, she look familiar. Think we hooked up back Coachella. What's your name? Isabella.
Isabella. All right, so workout done. Feeling kind of flat, but that's what's expected. Again, I'm doing another comparison. This This is just me post-workout. Tomorrow I imagine my workout is going to become a bit of a pump workout. We're going to go through an actual workout to put in the magazine, but I'm also going to be adding in stuff like, you know, bicep curls, even if that's not in the workout, just so I'm looking my best. Anyways, let's see how we're doing. My current macros are around 200 to 250 grams carbs, 200 protein, 50 to 60 grams of fat for my usual cutting macros. So today's going to be my first day with the lowest carbs I've gone in a long time, if not ever. So it'll be really interesting to see how I dry out. I'm also going to talk later on this evening about how I personally prep for, you know, a more planned photoshoot or how I prep for a bodybuilding show. I'm going to do a little Q&A. But anyways, we're done here. I'm going to go off, eat some protein, and then yeah, we'll finish up this vlog. Alright, so workout done. Just walked out of the gym there and I am so hungry. So I think I'm just going to get like a packet chicken in the Spar here. Mmm, delicious. So I'm pretty happy with how I'm looking now. So I'm interested to see how today goes or how I wake up tomorrow. I also did some cardio and conditioning work there at the end. I'll add in those clips now. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see. I found in the past that when I do kind of conditioning work like that, it really does shred me up and I kind of notice an overnight difference. So yeah, interested to see the results. That's what I'm talking about right here. 400 grams, 1.5 fat, 27 protein, 1.5 carb. Sláinte! Also guys, if you were wondering what that meeting earlier was about, it was about this company called— I need carbs. It was about this company called Twelve Watches. It's an Irish company, and I've worked with a good few watch brands before, but no Irish ones, and I'm all about supporting Irish business. So they've given me a discount code, it's Lipsett. I'll put it on the screen and also put their website in the description box. Again, really stylish watches for an affordable price. They're sending me out some linked ones as well tomorrow, so I'll probably put them up on my story or on my Instagram. But again, really cool people, the two guys. We had a coffee earlier, really like what they're all about. I like the style, the packaging, and everything. So yeah, I'm delighted to work with them, and thank you so much for sponsoring this video. You know I'm always open and honest about, you know, brand deals and everything. So again, this is a really cool company and I'm happy to work with them. So use the discount code, get you 20% off, and if it goes well, I'll be working with them again in the future. So right, onwards with the day. I am going to eat this pack of turkey and I'm gonna enjoy every single bit of it. I'm also gonna have a zero-calorie beverage too. What a time to be alive. This is what Linda is having for lunch from NutriQuik. Yes, trying, trying to reduce— we're all trying to shred down for Ibiza in like 10 days. But, uh, I'm gonna have a shake now, probably gonna have something similar to this later without the carbs. So still gotta eat your veggies. Okay people, so next up I'm gonna go for 2 scoops of Protein. The new flavor is absolutely insane— coconut ice cream. I'm not just saying this, it is my favorite flavor they've released so far. Even if you're not into coconut, you'll love it. That was not a sales pitch, it's actually so legit. And then I'm gonna go for a little bit of almond milk, and then if it needs more kind of liquid, I'm gonna add water to it. Almond milk is 13 calories per 100 milliliters, so in terms like oat milk, soy milk, skim milk, This is probably the lowest calorie, lowest carb. And usually I would just go for like normal skim milk or low-fat milk. I think that tastes best. And usually I throw a banana or some berries in my smoothies. Another problem I have with low-carb diets, why I don't follow a low-carb diet, is because you're missing out on so much nutrient-dense foods, so much fiber, like, you know, fruit, like lots of veggies, sweet potato, even normal potatoes.
Those.
Like, there's so much high-quality, nutrient-dense foods that are carbohydrate-based. But again, you know, this is the day that's in it. We're doing a little experiment, seeing how I look after a day of very low carbs. And here's the update so far: we had 5 grams— less than 5 grams of carbohydrate today, 17 grams of fat, and 80 grams of protein. We'll see where we're at after this. So I ended up just putting in 100 grams of whey. I'm being like really accurate today. Finish this off. 180ml of almond milk, so just under 200ml, so that's like less than 25 calories. Put some water in. We are gonna drink this straight out of the shaker. We're not gonna use a straw today because we're trying to save the turtles. That made a nice amount. That's gonna be nice and filling as well. And yeah, basically just pure protein. So I'm gonna get some editing done on my laptop, some work, some emails, and then probably go on that hike later. And yeah, catch up with you guys then. So Linda got a masai bowl, which is pretty much pure carbohydrates. Looks absolutely delicious. Pump is real. I'm gonna get, uh, I gotta eat some veggies today, so I'm just gonna get like double chicken breast, broccoli, mixed leaves, uh, onions, red peppers. Yeah, maybe a bit of egg, but not much fun. We are at Dun Laoghaire Pier. It's a beautiful day, and on top of the cardio I did in the gym earlier, trying to get some steps in too. So hopefully we'll end up at 10 or 12k steps at least. That was a big tip I have, uh, for anyone trying to lose weight, is to get in the habit of doing more steps daily because it's kind of like exercise without even noticing doing exercise. So great little tip for you there. It's also great to relax Camden. Look at this, amazing. Actually, in the old vlogs, right in October, um, October, November, I lived just over there in an apartment. It was just temporary though until I moved to my current place, which I'm currently— it's a month-to-month lease, it's not that permanent. I'll explain my whole living situation maybe in a vlog, um, soon enough. But either way, I travel so much That I'm trying to solve. Linda's not including my feet in the pic, either because she's cheating on me or because she doesn't like my shoes. Either way, one is as bad as the other. Alright, so today's cardio started over there, walked all the way up here, gonna chill here for a little bit, and then the East Pier is over that way, so we're gonna walk all the way back down, up and around. Should be about 15,000 steps. Love it. So last thing I eat today is gonna be 200 grams of turkey breast in the form of turkey burger. 2 of these are for Linda. And we're gonna chill out, maybe watch a movie, maybe watch Love Island. Yes, I do watch Love Island, okay, guilty pleasure. But, uh, so we're gonna switch off, chill out, and then go to bed. And then in the morning we're gonna do a weigh-in. My photo shoot, I actually got it moved earlier to 11 AM, um, because throughout the day, you know, the more water and meals you drink, less tighter your waist is. So I'm thinking I might actually do this shoot fasted. Either way, I'll see you guys in the morning and let's see how we look for this last-minute photoshoot. Oh yeah, lost like 3 pounds! Woo! Is there a better sound? Oh boy. So as you guys can see, I lost 3 pounds in the last 24 hours. Okay, is any of that fat loss? Probably absolutely not. And this is one thing that I want to stress is I'm gonna try to make this video as informative as possible. Like, I know it's a little 24-hour challenge thing, but the goal of this channel is to entertain you guys and to document my journey through life, but also inform you and, you know, to better your physique, better your confidence, everything, okay? And basically my tip for today is don't just focus on day-to-day scale changes, okay? Like you just saw, you can go up and down 3 pounds overnight if you under-eat, over-eat, you know, everything, okay? There's just so much variations. Even things like sodium and water intake come into play. There's a lot of stuff. I might actually put a list of things that, um, can affect your weight from day to day on screen right now. So there's a little bit of info for you. So my suggestion is instead of, you know, focusing on what one day says, okay, weigh yourself every day, don't get caught up in it, and take a weekly average, or even in some cases a monthly average, especially if you're female. The time of the month will have an impact on what you're weighing in at. So this is what I do with all my clients as well, tell them to not focus on day-to-day scale weight. but take a weekly or monthly average, okay? It's all about the bigger picture. Anyways, I am going to drink this beautiful Blue Monster in the background there. I'm not sure if I'll eat or eat much before the shoot. It's at 11:00. It's about like 8:00, 9:00 now, so I might just do it fasted, keep that waist as tight as possible. And if I'm feeling a little bit flat and I need to carb up a little bit, I'll have some like jellies or carb sources or something. Something. But either way, looking good and yeah, feeling like a string bean. This is 24 hours later. Let's see if I even look any different. And keep in mind that even if it's slight differences, when you're like a fitness model or if you're stepping on stage, these slight differences can be huge. Okay, so I'm going to do an update here and then an update the same place I took it in the gym yesterday when I was doing the posing. So right, here we go. Exposed workout pump makes a huge difference. Suit. I'm definitely like, you know, not like shredded condition, but I'm definitely like, you know, do good photoshoot. Here's my back. Do legs as well. So yeah, see how we get on. And hopefully Evan's first time shooting today, hopefully he gets some good angle. Not for me. Linda just nailing it with my patented trademark protein pancake mix. Yeah, that's a good one. Oh my God. Okay, update, we salvaged it. It actually looks great now, but Linda's never flipping the pancakes again. That was absolutely terrible. All right guys, so we're here in Raw Sandyford. We actually, um, had to do a bit of a location change because Evan, photographer, we just had a chat this morning he thinks this place will look cleaner and brighter due to the natural light. You know, Rodgin, Donnybrook, it is underground, has a certain cool look to it, but I think this is what the magazine that I'm shooting for, I think they're gonna prefer this look. Either way, I've got the long sleeve on to pump up, you know, get nice and warmed up, do some isolation movements, and then I think I'm gonna do a delt workout for the magazine so you guys, when it's out, you can follow it. And yeah, this is obviously see the new Aspire range from Halfleet, link down below, you know the drill. But, uh, okay, let's pump up. Evan should be arriving soon, and then let's kill this shoot. All right, so we're setting up here with the main man Evan. I think he is featured briefly on the channel before. So I did a little bit of a warm-up there, but I'm still gonna do a proper workout now. We're gonna do a shoulder day. So this is how we're looking. So hopefully we should get some great shots today and it's gonna be a good day, so let's kill it! I don't want to choose like lightweight or else everyone's gonna think like, does he even lift? Yeah, I'm like, I haven't got any fake weights in here. I need more of this. Alright, so like I said, I want to make this video as real and informative as possible, so what I'm gonna speak about is the difference that lighting, angles, camera, time of day, water weight, carbs, everything can make to your physique. As you can see here, I can go from having abs photoshoot ready to just being untensed, walking around relaxed and having no abs whatsoever. So lads, if you catch yourself at a bad angle, don't beat yourself up about it. Oh my God, yeah! Ah, that is looking fucking lit! Look like the Terminator! Last one is going to be over here. The test flies, then that's a wrap. Then it's time to eat a wrap. Done for the day, bro. Smash it. Unreal. Fair play. I'm eating a celebratory protein pancake. All right guys, so that's the end of the video. The shoe went really well. We're looking through the images on the camera there, and I'm delighted with how they turned out. Evan is so skilled at what he does. I'm going to link his, uh, all his details in the bio if you're looking for a photographer in Ireland, the UK. He's the man. Great dude, great friend of mine as well. So professional. And like, even when we were shooting, he was like, oh no, I want to get this, I want to get that. Like, he didn't just want to, you know, get the job done, get out of there. And that like shows true passion for his craft. Anyways, if there's anything to learn from this video, it's to not pay attention to the short-term overnight results. Like, this was just a little experiment for me and for the channel, bit of entertainment. Uh, you know, on this channel I'm all about long-term, steady, and sustainable results. I don't believe you should cut out any food groups. I don't think you should restrict yourself. I think you need to find an approach that you can stick to and most importantly enjoy the process, right? That's what we're all about here, keeping it real. Okay, so I'm gonna finish the video here. Give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed it. See you in the next one. Peace. So we're back on the carb hype but still keeping it healthy. Ignore the nachos. Let's see, look what Linda made for dinner. Look insane. They're still kind of healthy. They're like turkey breast, load of veggies, low-fat cheese. Now we're gonna finish the vlog. See you in the next one. Keep it real. This looks amazing. I'm outta here.
