Lean Bulking Grocery Haul

Rob Lipsett shows what he buys at Aldi and Lidl for a lean bulk, breaking down carbs, protein, and fats. He spent about €6.90 and debunks myths like sweet potatoes being superior to regular ones. The point: hit your macros with cheap, normal foods.

What's going on everyone? Welcome to today's video. Now, it's like my favorite time of the week for a couple of reasons. Number 1, it's Sunday. I love a good chill Sunday. And 2, I noticed there was like shit-all food in the apartment, so it's time to do a grocery haul. But not just any grocery haul. This is going to be my first grocery haul of when I've upped my calories, you know, bulking, lean gaining, whatever. So, you know, usually when I'm cutting, my food choice is a bit more boring. You know, it's just a lot of like salads and everything. But now, seeing as I'm kind of looking to get in more calories, it'll be a bit more fun. So I'm going to go to like Lidl or Aldi, and yeah, it'll be interesting to see what I get. So anyway, I was going to bring you guys along with me, probably into the shop, and then I'll go through everything when I get home too, and maybe just throwing a bit of tips here and there. Let's go. I also gotta get cleaned up a little bit, get out of my sweats, and maybe do my hair because I gotta venture outside into the real world. Beautiful! Beautiful! Uh-oh! What? Look at your hair! Oh, I look like Zoolander now, or like a pop singer from the '80s. Today going for some shoes from H&M, ripped jeans from I don't know where, I think got them in America, and then this kind of long long sleeve LF top. Uh, it's just like a prototype that I got done so long ago, never went ahead with it. But new shipment of LF on the way. And I'm not gonna lie, I tried to do the dishes today and by accident I put in 2 dishwasher tablets and I did a bit of a baldy. And but yeah, now we're having like a foam party in the kitchen, it's gonna be lit. Alright, so parked up outside Aldi. It's Sunday, so hopefully it's not too busy, but I imagine everyone will be getting their kind of Sunday grocery shop on. Anyways, let's see. I'm excited. I'm always just— I'm always just excited to do everything. Like, I'm excited to go grocery shopping. That's how I like to live life. Let's go on in. Alright people, so mission accomplished. Time to return home, back to base with the goods, and go through what we got. Holy shit, my wipers just turned off when I went underground. This is like pretty much the Batmobile. 2016, what next? Okay, tree bags. All right, time to get this shit upstairs all in one go, because if you take two trips to get your shopping into your house, your lad card gets revoked. Okay, so I need a bigger table, but I laid everything out and I kind of tried to section it off into like carbs, vegetables, you know, fruit and so on. But we're gonna go through it now anyways. But before I start, I want to make it clear that there's no such thing as muscle-building foods. That's going to come down to your calories and macros and micronutrients and stuff like that. So there's no anabolic foods, okay? But that said, there are foods that are easier to eat more of than others. You know, it's a lot easier to eat a ton of pasta than it is to eat a ton of salad. Nevertheless, let's get into it. Okay, so we're going to start off with carb sources. We got some King Burger Buns. I absolutely love making kind of homemade burgers. Apples, sweet potatoes, normal potatoes. Another myth I want to quickly go through is people think that sweet potatoes are better than normal potatoes, and that is not the case at all. I'll put a graph here showing that both of them just have different nutritional profiles, and one is not better than the other. We got some bagels, oranges, bananas, melons. People often associate fruit with being like, you know, healthy, which it is, but it still does contain quite a bit of carbs and it's easy to get in, especially banana if you're on the go. You can like throw it in your bag or whatever. Peppers, scallions, onions, apples, another thing that you can grab and go. Kidney beans for fiber. Pasta. Now, like I said, there's no such thing as like bulking food, but pasta is probably the easiest carb source. To get in. Like, you can get like a pretty small bowl of pasta and that will give you a lot of carbohydrates. Okay, moving on over to the fruit. We got courgette. I like to put that in with my pasta. Melon, carrots— I chop that up, put it in a salad. And like I said, I will always have like a salad every day just to make sure I don't overeat on this lean gaining phase. Stir-fry mix, blueberries, raspberries— put in my oats. Spinach, grapes. Some cheese. This isn't low-fat, and I often find myself falling kind of short on my fat intake, so hopefully this will help. Bacon, because no bulk is complete without bacon. Just some sliced ham, it's really convenient. More pasta, because like I said, pasta is the key to gains. Almond milk, more almond milk, diet lemonade, and if you're an OG subscriber, you will remember poverty soda. I will say no more apart from poverty soda. Mushrooms, again, great with pasta. Cherry tomatoes, add to salad. And then back here we got some almonds. Again, this will help me hit my fat intake. And people always think, oh, nuts, healthy diet. And nuts are the one food that I never eat when I'm cutting. They are just so easy to overconsume and they are so calorie dense. So I always add these like to literally anything. Greek yogurt, oats, even like a salad or a rice dish, they're really good. But, uh, so yeah, I only have these when I'm game. Okay, I told you my food choice changes a little bit. So we got some ready-made pizzas, but I kind of checked the calories on these and all these contain around 700 calories or less. So like, you know, yeah, you'll be easily able to fit them into your diet, but you know, they won't exactly blow out your calories for the day. And obviously they taste awesome. I got some Irish yogurt and of course fro-yo. I cannot live without fro-yo. Me and Sarah, we actually got some fro-yo last night and I just had— saw this and I had to pick it up. And some cottage cheese, oranges, and I think that concludes it. I'm also going to quickly show you, uh, just some stuff that I always have on hand. And you're probably thinking, where is the protein? I get all my meat from Kerrigans. It is like the best quality and price that you can get in Ireland, and you can even use my discount code, which is in the description box. So that's where I get all the usual stuff— chicken breast, turkey breast, turkey sausage, just everything, mince, steak, all that. So that's our picture here. And then I obviously have like so much protein from Myprotein, and then egg whites from O-Egg, which I'll show you now in a second. But that is what covers my protein. And then here we got fats, carbs, and then fruit and veg. And because I know I'm gonna get asked this, that all came €6.90, and we also did buy things like kitchen roll and stuff, so probably even below €6. So like I said, here is more egg whites. I got loads of them. Shout out to Oag for always delivering these to me. Got some whole eggs. Again, this is another source of fat for me. Down here, more potatoes because I'm Irish and we need potatoes or we melt and die. Another really good source of protein is prawns. It's like zero fat, zero carbs, and it's kind of a nice change from like your usual turkey, steak, and chicken. And then this is like the protein drawer. There's just like protein brownie mix, cookie mix, whey isolate, pancake mix. That is actually my all-time favorite flavor, sticky toffee pudding whey protein. Chocolate brownie. Even got some samples and stuff. So like hitting my protein intake is never a problem. And this is my little bulking partner here, so to the girls watching this, she eats all this stuff as well. Hi! Hi! Okay, sorry. Messing up my video. Alright, so that's the video. Please leave it a thumbs up if you're enjoying the videos these days. You guys have been super nice with the thumbs up, so please keep that going. It means a lot to me. So that is basically what I eat: protein, carbs, fat. So if you eat that, you will turn into Rob Lipsett. That's what the— that's what the sign says. Wrapping things up here. Catch you next video. Keep it real. I'm out here. Peace.
