Spend A Day With Me And Joey D

Rob Lipsett reunites with fitness creator Joey D for a day at King's Gym, where they train together and film a Q&A over sushi. They discuss training philosophy, motivation, steroids, lockdown, and whether aliens exist.
Chapters
Welcome to today's video, my friends. If you've been watching this channel for some time now, you will most likely come across the man, the myth, the legend, Joey Dee. We both entered the fitness industry around the same time in 2014, and since then we've traveled together all over the world to places like Thailand, road tripped over Spain, traveled up the coast of Australia from Melbourne to Sydney to the Gold Coast, and even exotic locations in the UK such as Birmingham. We've had some funny times along the way, such as losing Joe's prized sushi coupon collection and reviewing rare and unheard of protein bars. Oh, that's way better.
Yeah, that was hard as a rock compared to that. That's harder. Flavor-wise, 15.9 grams of fat, 38 carbs, 29 protein. Ratio-wise, that's like about the same as like—
how many cows? How many cows per 100 grams? This year the world ended up closing down and life got in the way, so we haven't got to see each other at all until now. Joe's one of the best people I've come across on this journey and a close friend of mine. His channel is something that I think everyone should go check out, not just for fitness bits but for general life advice and some good vibes too. So here it is, the return of Joey D. Enjoy the video. All right, so pre-workout, I was just saying it's a ritual, right? We got the little cocktail making glass here, we got the whiskey sour. Joe is, he is like the caffeine police. I'm like, Joe is caffeine police, but he's gonna take a sip just for me. No, no, of course not. He's gonna lose his both parents, both parents' contract now.
Yeah, I'm literally gonna get dropped unless I say it's horrible and then I don't honestly know what a whiskey sour tastes like. Is this a bad time for me to tell you that I've never actually had a legit whiskey sour?
Are you joking? So I could be like, uh, Joe is gonna have a similar one, uh, Code Lipsett, obviously. Then we're gonna head to King's Gym. Weather's terrible, probably just gonna spend the day in the gym, catch up a little bit, just have a nice pleasant day. Let's go. All right, people, so we're back in King's Gym. Place is absolutely packed today, but the atmosphere is still good and It just feels so good to be getting a session in with my life advisor, my therapist.
Session slash just Jess for me.
All right, let's have a good one. Me and Joe are both washed up old YouTubers with injuries.
Has-beens.
Yeah, yeah, we're has-beens, right? But that's cool, we're okay with that. Basically both our shoulders are actually at us. So I went to physio last week and he showed me how to do an underhand press, or a T-press, depends on what you want to call it, and it actually feels amazing. Sick pump. So that's what I'm going to do now. So let's all like the video for the underhand press. New technique, never before seen. 5, 4, 3, 2. That's it. You open it up.
Yeah, yeah, I got it.
I got a bit of a pump off that. Alright, I'm up. So it's our last set. We're going straight to failure. I was saying last time we trained delts together— shit, mate, could have been Melbourne— we did this technique. It's a burnout technique and it is absolutely brutal. So I'm up next. I'm excited. Delt pump's gonna be like a delt transformation after this set. It's gonna look like I got some synthol and put it in. I'm just doing a drop set with Joey D. Suck it! We always train like that. We probably make progress. See, Joe started hashtagging #tuckedincrew and I just copied it and ran with it. And now like people tag me in it.
As long as you've got it in. I see people saying Rob Lipsett #tuckedincrew and I'm like, let them have it.
Yeah, basically when shit's getting real you tuck in the shirt. It's just more aerodynamic.
It pulls the waist in.
Yeah, it does. Yeah, and it's like we're going to work, you know?
It's like pull up your shirt.
Yeah, yeah, it's the equivalent of pulling up your socks, just for the gym. All right, people, so upper body session done. Now we're gonna go home, we're gonna Uber home, we're gonna Uber eat, we're gonna have a mukbang.
Just having an Uber day. Yeah, this video is sponsored by Uber.
It's not really, but I'd Like it was.
Just bought shares in Uber.
So we're going to Uber home and order some food and then just do a few questions. Just chill out for the day. Just want to have a day together. So see you in a few hours.
Nice to meet you, man.
How's it going?
I've seen so much of this guy online.
We need to make this happen. Like, if I have time now, I'm staying here for a while, so we definitely have to get a training in together.
We need to see the alien muscles. I want to see the alien muscles. Like right now?
Yeah.
Let's do it, man. Let's do it. Let's go.
So actually, the truth is it's a cramp, right?
Yeah.
So the longer I hold it, the better it works. So if I'm just holding it for like 10 seconds.
Okay. 1, 2, 3.
Oh my God. Legend, mate. Smash it. One day I'll get the alien gains. One day. Guys, legend here. So good to meet you. Right, guys. See you at home. Food, Q&A. Let's go. Ooh.
Right.
There's the sushi. There's the setup. We're gonna put it here. We're gonna do Q&A, just have the crack. Can't wait. All right, it's 4:18 now. It's Joe's—
he's not eating challenge.
He's— yeah, with me. Okay, we're gonna go into these. We're gonna enjoy though as well.
Like edamame. Okay, edamame.
Oh, sesame sauce.
Oh, we need the pots like so we can separate our soys. All right, we do double dip the soy.
No.
That would be against restrictions.
We just first bite at the same time.
Mm, solid. Is that good? Try that.
Mm, not one question gets answered.
Wasabi's unbeatable, man.
So good.
Shit, when you go like a sushi place and you get little sachets and it's like it's just horseradish with like food coloring, it's not the same shit, man. You ever been in a restaurant where they like grate the wasabi in front of you? No, it's a fucking root, you know. And they grate it in front of you, because apparently proper wasabi is only good for like 5 minutes after it's like grated or some shit.
Yeah, I believe that. Tokyo is on top of our tier list. Same. Yeah, it's real.
Sesame is good.
Yeah, it's good, isn't it?
It's super like savory in it. It's like turbo savory.
Who'd win a boxing match? I think probably Joe would be better at boxing if I could take more punches to the face, so it would come down to that really.
Mmm, yeah, right.
What would you do if your girl cheated on you? What's even nice?
She don't know. Honestly, like, I don't think I'd be that emotional about it. I'd probably just be like, uh, I'm getting off now. And then, and what I'd actually do is obviously you've got a house to fucking sort out on you, so I mean, I can't be out selling it and splitting it up, splitting it, so I'll probably just buy her out and then I'll probably rent it out and move to New Zealand for a bit, just for a lull. Straight yo, man, seems decent though. Yeah, I think that wasn't the question though. The question was like, what are you supposed to do in general? Yeah, try not to be like a hurt motherfucker about it. Try not to like be bitter. Just take it as an objective, like, matter-of-fact thing and just be like, right, well, I guess that's over then.
Thanks for the memories.
See you in a bit. Like, actually, thanks. Actually, actually.
Yeah. Home gym versus commercial gym, if you can only choose one. This is kind of valid for Joe because he just started his home gym.
If you could only choose one— home gym is a very broad term, right? Because how good can it be? Yeah, yeah. Is it like— can it be sick?
Is it like The Rock's gym or Mark Wahlberg's?
I would say if you've got like— if you've got like over about 5K to play with, enough space, you can make a home gym.
Go watch Joe's video.
Probably need more than 5K, to be honest, like 10K. If you've got that, then you can make your home gym sick enough for it to like just be pretty much no competition.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. When I'm older, uh, when I first buy place. Home gym is definitely a priority. Where were you in life at the age of 22? I'm 22 now and already feel behind. I just started YouTube at 22, and again, yeah, exactly, exactly, 22, September 1st, 2014. So 28 now, and I was like working random jobs, didn't know what I wanted to do. I'm just exactly like you, and like, I still feel so young. Like, I think I'm probably gonna peak around like maybe 38, 45. 38.5.
So 7-year window somewhere in there. You never feel like you've peaked, do you? No. One day you wake up and you're like 17, like, shit, I must have peaked. Then you look through your Instagram photos and you're like, I'm not as big anymore.
You're so young, 22. And again, I just started YouTube, so you can go back in my first ever video and see what I was like. I was living, living in that weird accommodation. And yeah, just starting that journey, man. Where were you at 22?
So I finished uni when I was 21, and then I traveled for a bit, and when I came back from traveling, I obviously didn't have a job because I'd been traveling. And I also borrowed like a grand off your mum and dad when I was away because I ran out of money. So I just had the four walls in me bedroom, like, that didn't even belong to me. I mean, mum and dad's house, no job, and I owed me one dad a grand.
Very few people have got their shit together.
Not very far.
Yeah, yeah, there you go.
Started working a job for a bit that I hated. Oh yeah, sweet.
I was working alongside YouTube as well for first while. So yeah, man, you got so much time.
Yeah, I don't even start shooting myself.
You just got allowed to start drinking last year in America.
As a general rule, like, I'd be trying to make some decent money once you're in like late 20s. Yeah, if you're 25— if you're 25 as well, once you're like 26, 27, 28, you should be thinking like, I should be making some like all right money by now.
Yeah, and be independent.
Then like you need needs to think about like what can we do, man.
Yeah, pancakes or waffles.
Definitely pancakes. Yeah, waffles are like overrated.
Yeah, yeah, waffles are dry.
There's more variations of pancakes as well.
There's levels.
You can go like crepes, crepes, crepes, crepes, crepes, crepes, crepes with feta, American style pancake.
Pancakes.
Pancakes, yeah.
Oh, here's a question you'll hate. Your tips for being motivated.
Don't, you go first, please.
I'm just gonna be cliché and be like, you gotta find something that you don't need to be motivated for. You'd have to motivate me not to hit the gym, you know, that is fair. You'd actually have to do that. Um, so pretty much just find things that you like to do and then you won't need motivation. But some days you do, and then you just watch a Joey D YouTube video and then you're good to go.
What the fuck? What is motivation though? Like, really, it's just like feeling like It is motivation doing something when you don't feel like doing it. Is that what it is? I think so.
Don't look up the definition of motivation.
No, the definition of motivation is a motive, but like Oxford Dictionary over here, that's what it says. I'm pretty sure I've looked it up, but I don't know. I mean, some— it's just a fact of life that like sometimes you have to do shit that isn't that much fun, man. Yeah, you have to like— at some point you get an accountant, but like before that you have to maybe like do your taxes. That's just the thing that you've got to do as a grown-up, man. You gotta like pair socks up. You don't have to really, that's, that's, that's debatable. You know, there's some shit you gotta do, right? Because the greater good is like warm feet, you know what I mean? For a better purpose. Like, if you're constantly trying to, trying to motivate yourself, you probably are doing the wrong thing. Like, you're like, there's lots of really simple motivators, like, but you're not supposed to say— like, money is one. That's quite nice. Yes, that's fine. You're not an evil cunt. Like, can I say cunt on your channel?
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You're not an evil cunt if you like motivate by money. You know, but that's just one of them, right? You can be motivated by like the desire to have fun, well-being. Yeah, you feel motivated by like a fucking selfless sense of helping people. Yeah, whatever.
Like, are you off to Ibiza next year? You're going on stag? Yeah. Is Toby B going on the stag?
He actually is, yeah. I think so.
Bring back the bigger, mate. Who has the freshest trim? Can we actually talk about the long hair saga?
Oh, I wasn't a fan. That's fair.
Was it worth it?
I like the idea of having long hair better than I like actually having long hair. Yeah, because I would have liked it if I had the hair for it, but my hair is like not just curly, it's actually like frizzy, like proper frizzy. And so like it's just completely not manageable. And also my hairline is far back, right? And people call me shit saying I'm going bald, but it's not moving anywhere.
More plates, more dates.
It's just far back, right? But it's not going anywhere. It's just staying over there somewhere. So when you tie your hair back to get out your face because you've got fucking afro, you just look a bit shit. But like, if your hairline's shit, it's shit. Yeah. And if you've got frizzy hair, it's not worth trying to manage. Like, and also, I don't know, I just looked about 8 years older, didn't I?
Yeah, yeah.
And I literally like added 5 years onto my life expectancy.
Let's compare hairlines. Who wins the hairline battle? Comment down below. How has lockdown changed what you guys value in life? So we're talking about this in taxi and Linda asked me, she was like, what have I learned from lockdown? Nothing really, to be honest. You know, I didn't, I didn't need lockdown to know that I wanted to, you know, go on holidays and leave the house. I've always been preaching gratuity here.
I think gratuity is not the right word, you know.
Really?
You're gonna have to say gratitude. Yeah.
Oh, okay.
Well, you know, I can get pulled apart in the comments.
No, they always do. It's like a thing on my channel and your channel as well, like Rob can't speak right. It's like part of the part of the fun. Obviously when you're in lockdown you're like, oh, I miss eating out, I can't, you know, go to a restaurant, I can't travel. But I love those things anyways.
I always have probably what's verging on strange appreciation for things.
No, we have had this conversation in Thailand, just in a normal restaurant, right?
Just at normal times when there's no lockdown, whatever. And I think like, it's actually insane that you can walk in somewhere, like sit down, and someone's gonna walk over to you and ask you what food you want. And then it's gonna appear in front of you. And then if you want another course, you can do that. And if you want another course, you can do that. And then someone's going to take your dishes away and someone else is going to wash them.
And then what, luxury?
Just stand up and walk away.
It's insane.
Crazy levels of like just like opulence, man. It's literally— you are living in fucking— even just like you just— we just ordered sushi and it just turned up. Yeah, no, no, honestly, it's like magic. Come on.
So I'm into— well, I'm probably a complete idiot on topic. I love watching videos on AI. I'm into— I love watching videos on AI technology, even stuff like aviation. I went into the aviation rabbit hole last night. It's so good, man. There's a whole side of YouTube that's— oh yeah, there's a whole side of YouTube.
It's like Wendover videos.
That's the exact one.
And, um, the one video I was watching, now he's into aviation.
I'm pretty much, um, a pilot now. But so Like, I'm amazed by technology. And a really good quote is, if you were to show some of the technology today, like Uber Eats even, or airplanes, if you were to put— or even a Lamborghini— if you went back to the 1500s and you just put a Lamborghini in the town hall, people would be like, this is alien spacecraft, this is out, this is black magic. So I find that just so interesting, the day and age that we live in.
Like, Ginger's naughty, mate. It's fresh, innit?
Naughty, mate.
Isn't it interesting how far behind the frontier, like, the curve of, like, human fucking knowledge. We are, as, like, the layman— Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. If I sent you back to, like, back 1,000 years, right, they'd be like, "Send him back! Send him back!" And they said, "Right, Rob, what's in the future?" And you're like, "Oh, we've got, like, the internet, we've got, like, TVs, we've got, like, cars." And they're like, "Right, make one for us." And you'd be like, "Fuck. Er, do you want to— I can make you a bike." Probably shit at that.
No, no, I don't think I could.
Yeah, yeah, skateboard.
Uh, yeah, yeah, I can nail some wheels to a plank.
Yeah, you got to get the wheels though as well.
Yeah, and the trucks.
How'd you make them? Like, we're so far behind like tech, like medical advancements, everything. It's the accumulation of like loads of different people in very, very, very specific areas. Like, Joe, that's the great— that's what sets us apart as humans really, innit? Yeah, cooperation.
Like, and you know, I'm sure you've watched it, is the, um, Bob Lazar All the bit— that's probably one of my most interesting things on YouTube.
Have you watched about, um, David Fravor, all that stuff? But yeah, have you watched them? You watch Let Me Know?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, dude.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh my God, his videos are insane. He started off as like a top 10 channel.
They're all sick though.
Yeah, yeah, I've been back. I've been back. That's 7 years old. But yeah, those videos are so good. I even watched one on DB Cooper.
Oh, that was sick.
So good. Just a quick one on the reverse engineering that Bob Lazar does. Yeah, that's like— he said, he was like, if you were to get some of the technology and you would show us nowadays, it would just be the same as, or as in the 1500s seeing a Lamborghini. So I believe, man. Do you believe in aliens?
Do I believe they've been to Earth?
Yeah.
If I had to say one or the other way, I'd probably say yeah. Yes, I don't believe a lot of the stories about like people getting abduction.
No, no, that's just hallucinating.
The Tic Tac stuff is pretty interesting. Yeah, yeah, and all those videos. And like, there is quite an accumulation of like— I don't— I really don't know. I wouldn't like to bet much on it, like, but yeah, I think like it's not unlikely.
Yeah, I believe that question. Sorry, that was locked in. Change what you value in life.
We now value aliens.
Yeah, we, we value Bob Lazar.
Let me know YouTube channel. You want a tomato though with the sushi?
Yeah, yeah, that's—
I don't fuck with that one.
No, that's just in there for color, really. Yeah, virgins. That's, that's it. Literally, literally.
Oh, we're virgins.
Yeah, well, it's just, I don't know, maybe James Bird 92, just virgins.
Which one do you want to hear?
Uh, tuna. Why did Joe delete the Joe Fioserian video?
Why the fuck did you delete that? Yeah, get off me back, you What?
I didn't know it was deleted.
Calm down. Okay, simmer down. All right, I ain't done yet. You got a very belated copyright hit for the track that's in it.
Yeah, yeah, it's a Casio—
I think it's a college track. And, uh, yeah, a lot of people messaging me about it. I went on it, it's blocked in all countries. I mean, it's not deleted, so it's still there as a file. So I don't know if we've got the original file, but I will pull it down put a different track on it, and maybe I'll upload it somewhere where like YouTube won't— like Vimeo. I don't know where I can upload it, but don't worry, it's not gone. We'll get it back to the people because a lot of people said, you're like, I watch that every day.
Yeah, upload it to your OnlyFans. Oh, we have to do, uh, the naughty question as well. Okay, would you two take steroids and do you feel pressured to take them? Just probably answered 50 times. No, his question is— that was asked about 50 times.
No, I wouldn't. And do you feel pressured? No, not whatsoever.
No. Yeah, sometimes I would like to be—
wow, that's impressive, man.
Just looks fucking sick.
I don't want to look like I'm juicy, man. Yeah, I don't want it. It's not cool, man. Sorry everyone who's juicy, but it's just not cool, man.
Joe thinks it's too tryhard.
It literally is. Like, it's, it's cool within your own little fucking bubble, right? But as soon as you like walk out the gym, I don't think it's cool. Now obviously, each their own. Everyone's got their own like what is cool, you know. Is my red your red? You know, it doesn't really matter. Like, I'm not the authority on, on what, so I don't give a shit. But I personally like just think there's just no need one. Yeah, yeah, I look fucking sick for me. True for me.
Right, when is next trip?
Who knows? I'm planning a lot of shit for 2021, like speculatively, man. Yeah, hopefully if we can do— if travel's sound, we'll just fucking be like, hey, do you want to go somewhere next week? And we'll just go. Like, you know, I don't know about your pre-booking shit when everything's like getting cancelled and shit.
And like, it would be nice to, um, get Lyndon and Mags going all grown up. Yeah, it'd be nice.
Pleasant, pleasant. Go to Center Parcs, man.
Yeah, call out Fake Natties.
Imagine if I wasn't still not even— imagine if I'd hopped on at some point. When would it have been, man? Yeah, my physique's literally been the same, or maybe got slightly worse. Yeah, continuously for like 5 years.
Peaking was 15. I peaked in like 2015.
I've hit some good levels since then, but only they've only looked looked sick because I've got so shredded, not because I've had that much size. Like, size-wise, I think it was juiciest in like 2015, probably. Yeah, it is weird because I was fucking partying like a motherfucker then as well. Maybe it's a test thing.
Maybe it is, maybe it is.
Maybe partying is good.
You made partying good, boost your test being, being in that environment.
Why do people still ask what you're not eating? Yeah, it's a new trend on YouTube, is because, right, really it's just a big self-righteous fucking witch hunt, man. Same as anything else. People love— the only thing people love more than a hero is a fucking villain. You know what I mean?
There's so much good quotes in this box.
Someone's a fucking fake nutty, just don't follow him, man.
Yeah. What flavor we got? Marshmallow cereal milk.
Oh, don't want to get in trouble without even thinking. Yeah, this is sophisticated.
Yeah, man. So you take a drink and you got the marshmallow bits.
One. Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, tastes like cereal. Yeah, American, like cereal.
It's called Marshmallow Cereal Milk.
Wow, so sweet. It is good, like, yeah, good.
All right, let's do—
how much milk do you use here? 500ml.
Okay, right, let's do 2 more.
That is a protein shake, man. 500ml of semi-skim milk. Yeah, that's basically—
I know. Yeah, so you're getting 2 protein shakes for the price of 1.
It is quite pleasant.
Do you think expos will survive after COVID due to them being international meetups?
I think regardless of COVID expos are like dying anyway, man. Yeah, because, uh, the shit, you know what I mean? Like, it's good to meet people and that, but like like, as a, you know, like if we weren't famous YouTubers, if we were like mere members of the public.
I love Expos.
I love it. Only because you're you though.
Yeah.
When you went, when you were walking around like getting a few samples of protein bars and that, you have to be proper into protein bars to like Expos, man. You have to really, really love them. Oh, I mean, because it's just like a chopped up stodgy-ass protein bar chopped into 16 pieces that a few other people have mauled. You just get that and 8 shots of pre-workout, walk around, look at some shit gym gear. The latest fucking Gymshark ripoffs is like fucking muscle crocodiles. Literally, they call them one, one— what's one, one? Yeah, something wolf.
Yeah, yeah, I saw that. What animal can we use? There's muscle rhino. We've used—
there was muscle monkey once. Muscle monkey.
Yeah, yeah.
There was—
that's an insult.
So bad. Such bad— it was like, what are you doing? Just sat there, sat around going through fucking— going through the encyclopedia going, yeah, if someone's got shark, someone's got monkey.
They're going through the animal kingdoms and words for gains.
Yeah, yeah. Hypertrophy info.
This is stupid.
One sec, I might do a troll run.
I'm fucking dead, Dad. You obviously miss meetups.
Oh, meetups are sick. Yeah, that's different though. Like, we did our own on fucking Sydney Beach, on Bondi Beach. That was one of the best things. And in Melbourne, people are sick, but Expos as a format is shit.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And even like BodyPower, for example, was kind of like on the out when like Gymshark started doing their own pop-up events, meetups pretty much what they were. So yeah, I hope they do come back, but the Expo scene is definitely going to change massively.
One genuine— oh my God, that's a sick question. Oh, one genuine constructive criticism of the other.
Constructive criticism, so that's like feedback to help you, but a bit of criticism as well.
Less of another. We often say that we're like opposite ends. Like, the thing is, like, I think Rob— like, if you know Rob, you will— like, no offense, like, but you're not normal, man. You are not normal. Like, there is a, there is a level of enthusiasm something that's like— but I don't think that you can change. I think that's just how you're built. Yeah, I think that's just your fucking genetics. You just, you just got— you're like a boisterous fucking puppy, man. Yeah, yeah, it just needs to be walked for 8 hours a day. Yeah, literally hours a day, otherwise you'll just get restless and just be like— yeah, there's definitely like go, go, go on you.
Yeah, I'm like, yeah, I'm the opposite.
But they both have the—
I mean, I honestly like to think I have a tweak of insanity in me.
Yeah.
What was that funny story at the pool party when you— one of your mates was at a pool party in Miami and he was like, I saw your mate Rob from afar.
Yeah, just do dive bombing onto beds and that, into the middle of groups on— he'd like hired out fucking beds and that, and he just jumping in the middle of them and abstract.
Yeah, right. Construction criticism, Joe. Maybe a little bit more enthusiasm. Yeah, yeah, a little bit, a little bit less moody, but the moodiness is cool.
I think, I think I just don't express my enthusiasm the same.
Yeah, normal. That's true because you do have it the same.
Very enthusiastic about, well, everything really, but I just don't— I don't— it doesn't come across. So people watch my videos and like, wow, you sound like you're depressed. I do get that a lot, which is funny because the opposite— yeah, yeah, videos I was like Yeah, yeah, yeah, it just got less like shouty. That was a sick question though.
That was a good question.
Definitely. Yeah, beats like—
beats like what's your one rep max?
What happens when your bird swerves you? Don't get swerved. Sick. Yeah, sick.
Keep real. Peace. Jodie. The world—
the world's on the mend.
The world's on the mend. Yeah, go on, give us a bit more.
