The Best Feeling Ever

Rob Lipsett combines two workout days before a Vegas trip, then walks through his macro-tracking system using a food scale to hit protein targets. He argues against competition-lean physiques, saying sustainable fitness should let you enjoy pool parties and dating without burnout.

What's going on everyone? I just basically had the most stressful morning with British Airways. I'm basically changing my flight leaving Vegas, just putting it back a couple of hours because I want to go to a pool party on Sunday. Legitimate excuse, but we got it all sorted anyways, so I cannot wait now. I'm super excited and they're actually quite good in the end. Today is the day before I leave for Vegas, or we leave, me and Sarah, so I got a lot to kind of wrap up, sort out before I go, I'm going to hit an early morning workout. I'm probably not going to eat beforehand, just have a coffee or something. And I'm also going to do a full upper body workout because I'm going to be traveling for like the best part of the day. I'm probably going to miss my workout tomorrow. So when I know that's going to happen, I just kind of combine two workouts. So today's meant to be a push day, tomorrow's meant to be a pull day. So just going to combine two, probably a chest and back, throwing some shoulders in there as well. So I'm going to head off to the gym now, get it out of the way. I'm feeling good. I'm obviously super excited. Super happy and, uh, I can't wait to go. So yeah, let's do this. This is one of my favorite hoodies from the recent Alphalete launch. So damn clean. And this is a medium. So this is the workout I just kind of put together for myself today. Going to start off with chest, then back, then shoulders, then again chest, back, shoulders, and then finish off with some kind of isolation accessory work. I actually love training full upper body, so I'm really excited to go hit this workout. I'm probably not going to show you every exercise I do today as I've no one to record me, so I'm going to have to just lash up a tripod and then the video will be extremely long, but I'll show you what I can. Get it, come on! I feel when your arms so big you gotta put knee sleeves on them. But when I start my bulk next week, I'm hoping to kind of edge my way into the 50s and then start increasing reps. 50 kg, that is. All the Americans who watch this are like, dude, you're so weak. If you want to get the Pounds, multiply kg by 2.2. Alright, so last workout before Vegas complete. I'll also enclose a few pictures of how my current physique is looking. Gonna go home now, cook up a meal, get some work finished up before I go and just tie up some loose ends. And it turned out to be a nice day today. So just came home to a package from these guys, and they obviously know the key to my heart, because it's a Foodscale. I'm gonna crack this open now and make some lunch. I'm gonna have egg whites and some potatoes. So here it is, looks pretty nice as well, kinda stylish. But while I make my lunch, I thought I might as well give you guys a little bit of a nutrition talk. And it's like what I mentioned in that video, the How to Break Through Fat Loss Plateau. The first thing I mentioned is start tracking accurately. Like if you've never used a scale before, it can be very eye-opening. Like the most common— I'm not, I'm not even making this up— the most common problem I see with people that are trying to gain weight or lose weight is just they have no idea what they're taking in. And the harsh reality is energy balance, calories, are going to dictate your results. They're kind of like the foundation. It's not all that matters, but it's really the grand scheme of things. Even with protein intake, I want to get in 40 grams of protein here, so I'm weighing out 400 grams of egg whites. And like, you know, without that, you're really kind of just guessing. People complain that it takes too much time, but I just leave mine on the counter and it takes literally no extra effort, and it saves me weeks of not getting results. So the company has also given me a discount code. It's Lips of Fitness. It'll be linked in the description. Box, so go check it out. Anyone who's serious about their nutrition probably should track their macros or calories, at least for a while. You don't have to do it forever, but just, you know, to kind of get an idea where you're at, I do recommend it. So we're gonna go 400 grams of egg whites, 200 grams of white potatoes. Also, two things I want to talk about because I know I'm gonna get asked is: one, there's nothing wrong with whole eggs. They're a really nutrient-dense source of fat. I'd just rather save my fats for other things such as cheese or peanut butter, just something a little bit tastier. And secondly, if you're just starting out, it can be very overwhelming to, you know, weigh out everything. So maybe just start with significant things in your diet and don't worry about weighing out like veggies and stuff like that. Remember, Start slow or you're just gonna burn yourself out. That goes with anything in fitness, really. So there's the meal. It's not pretty but gets the job done and tastes great. And I'm gonna put some reduced sugar ketchup on as well. And I went for 20 grams of that, which is like 10-15 calories. So I'm just having a look here at some of the pictures I took in the gym, just of my current physique. And one thing I really need to work on is is not being so hard on myself. I think anyone who's competed is always comparing themselves to their very best. You will never look better than when you're fully dieted down, carved up, with a pump, in the perfect lighting, with a filter on. Like, you always compare yourself to that. And anyone with like any kind of body image disorders, I would really recommend addressing them before you ever think of competing because it can really mess with your head. But I've kind of like came to terms with it, and I'm like happy where I am now. I'm like happy with my body, you know. I came to terms with the fact that like I cannot sustain like being super, super shredded year-round. I can stay relatively lean year-round, but like not competition lean. But I'm happy with that, you know. Like I'd walk down the beach like that, I'd go to a pool party like that, and you can also enjoy yourself a lot more. And also, if you're doing this to get girls, girls will much rather a guy who will go to a pool party party, have fun, have a few drinks, go out to dinner, not order a plate of broccoli, and, you know, be worrying and talking about his diet the whole time. A girl would much rather a guy who's just chilled and looks, looks good. So for anyone who wants to like really cut down, get shredded, kind of think of the long term and instead maybe aim for a physique that looks hella good, but you can also sustain and enjoy life. So when I start my bulk next week, the kind of level of body composition I'm at now, that's what I'm gonna try and sustain, probably put on a little bit more body fat because I'm planning on bulking for as long as possible, at least 6 months, with a few mini cuts thrown in here and there. We'll see, maybe not even. I'm just gonna have to play it how it goes. But yeah, I'm hell excited. Alright, so I thought I'd quickly show you what I put together here. I basically just got like all the veggies in the house that are gonna go off if I leave them here when I go to Vegas. Uh, some rice, some tuna, and some low-fat cheese on top of it as well. So it's like a tuna melt burrito bowl. Alright guys, so it's the evening time, just doing a bit of packing for Vegas. We got to be at the airport at like 4 AM, so just got some kind of ripped light jeans, some chinos, black jeans for going out, some sweatpants in there just in case, a ton of like Alphalete lifestyle clothes. They are a must-have in my wardrobe. I just wear them with everything. Two shirts, some shoes for going out. And then I picked up these bad boys last night, a white pair of Huaraches. I put them on my Snapchat and some people like mess me being like, "Oh shit, lad, got Huaraches." I'm just like, I literally went in, I was like, "Yo, give me a pair of all-white shoes that go with everything." You are the shit, lad, if you're worried about another man's shoes. Anyways, I like them. Yeah, so them. And you're probably wondering why I'm packing no MyProtein, and that's because we are getting all our Myprotein gear there. I cannot wait. You always end up getting like some new releases, and they also like might have your name on it, or they might have like Olympia 2016 or something. But yeah, so we're back on Monday. Long weekend, so not packing too much at all. And then of course stuff like my diary and my laptop that I do not— does not part my side. Shit, almost forgot swim shorts for the pool party too, and I might need to pack a blazer So I'm gonna bring this carry-on bag too. So finishing up today with a shake because I am falling a little bit short on protein. So I'm gonna double scoop this bad boy and just leave humanity behind. This is Coffee Caramel, one of my favorite flavors, and I'm gonna have what I'm milk too. 2 scoops, not natty anymore. So we're all packed up, we're leaving like really early in the morning, but like I kind of like that, it's kind of like fun, I don't know. But maybe I'll pull an all-nighter. But this just put me in some mood, looking back on what I said this time last year. Also, I wish I was getting flown to Vegas to hit up the Olympia right now, but you know what? That's a goal to work towards this year. I'm gonna look back in this video a year from now and be like, shit, you know what I did? There's honestly no better feeling than setting a goal and smashing it. So people, I'm gonna finish up this video by saying, if you want something, just go out and get it. It's yours. You put in the work, you reap the benefits, and there's just— there's just no better feeling than reaching a goal that you really wanted. Keep it real. See you in Vegas.
