The Best Investment I Ever Made

Rob Lipsett says travel is his best investment, then demonstrates his fitness routine while traveling. He uses intermittent fasting and flexible workouts, debunks the 15-minute anabolic window myth, and emphasizes total daily protein over meal timing.

I think this year is the most I will have ever traveled in my whole life, which is amazing. I think travel— that's one thing I've been thinking about recently as well. I think travel is probably the— experiences are the best thing you can spend your money on, not material items.
Cheers to that.
I really truly believe that, you know. Do I love sports cars and, you know, expensive stuff? Yes, but I don't think it's the best thing to spend your money on. And been thinking about that, and I'm like, the best thing you can spend your money on is obviously investments, that goes without saying, but But then travel and experiences I think is the best. We are in Palm Springs, just about to go into World Gym. Look at that, there's a jelly donut shop next to the gym. America. We're flying to New York in like 2 days, okay, we're flying from LAX. We completely forgot to book our flights. They were so cheap last week and we were like, oh, it's fine, we'll get them, we'll get them. We completely forgot and they were just €350 each. For one way. But anyways, look, these mistakes happen when you're traveling. Our fault for leaving it too late. It's kind of funny as well. But anyways, right, so I actually didn't want to vlog today. I was a bit of a— in a bit of a bad mood about that. Then I'm like, you know what, actually going on camera and like, you know, talking about that stuff and like getting a workout in, vlogging, that actually makes me happy. So, uh, yeah, now I'm excited to turn this day around, hit a sick leg workout, and, uh, get some nice food as well. So right, let's get into the vlog. 3, 2, 1, leg day, let's go!
What does your fitness world look like right now? How are you training? How are you eating? How are balancing, you know, all of these things and still looking good, feeling good?
So I'm traveling more than ever, so I really have to say to myself, okay, how do I stay in shape? How do I hit the gym constantly? And so I've kind of— my routine has changed because I'm traveling so much. So I do a lot of intermittent fasting, apart from when Linda wants breakfast. She, she loves breakfast. I love breakfast. But, um, so I do a lot of—
I fast between breakfast and lunch. That's what I'll do.
Yeah, yeah. So yeah, exactly. Like, so bigger, less frequent meals. Okay. And so, like, you know, if you're snacking all day while having those calories gonna add up. It's gonna be very little protein in that. So just like 2 to 3 big solid meals to hit your macros a day. That allows you to eat out as well. So that, and then just getting in a workout whenever I can. If I know I'm only gonna be in the gym 3 times that week, I'm doing 3 full body workouts. If I know I'm gonna be doing in the gym 4 or 5 times that week, I'll usually go upper lower, upper lower. But usually when everything's on point, and for example, just there, I was not traveling around. I was just in Venice for a week. I was training goals every day. And I did 6 days per week, legs push-pull, legs push-pull, and then I'll do like a long walk every day. So yeah, usually I try to get like 12,000 steps in. And I don't do too much formal cardio 'cause like I walk a lot and have a high activity level. But yeah, I'll do some StairMaster if I'm feeling a little bit, little bit soft in the water. Yeah, feeling that plain food. So yeah, that's basically how it looks like.
That's just bloating, right? It's sodium and bloating.
It's not body fat, it's just sodium. But yeah, so yeah, obviously traveling around and you know, trying to stay on top of everything, your fitness life does take a hit. But you just got to be smart about it. And you can definitely stay on top of it.
Someone who has the experience in traveling and staying stationary and nutrition and fitness, I'm sure you've reached a point now where you can pay attention to your body, right? Yeah. You kind of know, like, all right, I need more of this, less of that. To someone— because we have a lot of people listening and watching who the fitness and nutrition stuff is really, really important to them where they are on their journey right now. let's say they travel a lot or they don't have the ability to do the 5, 6 days a week. What would you say is something that someone should go deeper on right now to really make their overall health and wellness more of a priority?
Okay. The biggest thing I've worked with over the years, thousands of individuals, like just so many. And the most common mistake that I've actually seen is people focusing too much on like timing and like certain magic foods, right? Just it's about what you eat in the entire day. Okay. Just focus on that. If you can nail that down, down, if you can get your protein and total calories, not even macros, you can change up carbs and fats a little bit. If you get protein and total calories down each day, you will see results, and if you're consistent with that. And that's so easy to focus on when you actually think about it. Like, instead of worrying about, you have to eat a meal at first thing of the day to stoke the metabolic furnace, I have to get the 15-minute anabolic window.
That's so 2012, bro.
That's so 2012. You know, all that people are, I have to have this supplement, just at this time, right? Just focus on your total calories and protein intake for the day. That is my nutrition advice. Obviously, eat plenty of whole nutrient-dense foods, but in terms of like body composition, seeing results, I think that's a really simple place to start. Yeah. And then in terms of exercise, I would say weight train or resistance train at least 3 times per week. That could be full body, you know, barbell movements, or an upper/lower, upper/lower split. I think everyone can make, can weight train 3 to 4 times a week.
Absolutely.
I just think they can make, I just do. Doesn't even have to be an hour long. Could be 45 minutes.
Oh, you can, you'd be amazed. People would be amazed at the results you can see and feel.
Yeah.
By 3 times a week total body.
Yeah.
You know, condense it down. If you don't have a lot of time, that's almost even better.
Simple compound movements, you know, get strong.
Yeah.
You build a good foundation. So they are my 2 most simple tips for someone with a crazy busy schedule is gonna be focus on what you eat in the entire day and weight train at least 3 times a week. Yeah.
That's it, hit the weights. Absolutely.
Yeah, so I was trying to figure out what this is for a while, okay, and it's a neck machine. Shout out to the people that I know train neck, okay? Off the top of my head, Jeff Nippert, of course, Julian Smith, and Alex from Alpha Destiny, right? If you train neck, comment down below. It's not something I do regularly at all, if I'm being honest, probably because my neck vein is bigger than any other vein on my bicep, and I think if I train neck, that thing would blow up and I would probably die. Either way, we're gonna give it a shot now, okay? And this is really good if you're a boxer as well, apparently, because when you're getting fucking rocked in the head, you gotta have Strong neck. Actually feels really good. Right, so today's been legs, abs, and neck day. That is my new training split. Right, love it. I'm hungry. Let's go get fro-yo right here. Great session. I'm just having a little post-workout shake. There's 2 scoops of whey isolate. There's a smoothie bar over there, some nonfat milk, so probably a little bit of carbs from the milk, and there's over 50g of protein here. Some ice as well to thicken it up. Now with post-workout nutrition, this is something that I spoke about before and that I'd like to remind you guys, okay? A lot of bro science out there about the 15-minute anabolic window, okay? And again, it's just exactly that. A lot of it is bro science. Like, if you go 16 minutes without having something after your workout, the workout isn't wasted. And that's something that I used to believe when I was so young. And a lot of it is kind of hype made up by supplement companies to sell you these post-workout products, okay? But oftentimes, with a bit of bro science, there is some truth behind it. So the studies that show that, you know, the post-workout window is beneficial is often done on fasted subjects, okay? So if you eat before the gym, you eat in the morning, there's always going to be an overlap of nutrients throughout the day. So what's most important is what you eat in the entire day But if you do intermittent fasting like me, and I just hit that workout fasted, then it is often recommended to have something to eat, like a mixed meal, protein, carbs, fat, whatever, mainly protein, within an hour after training. So that's what we're doing here. So then, so that's a little bit of kind of myths cleared up. That's where the post-workout window, anabolic window, kind of comes from. There's a little truth behind it, but moral of the story is just focus on what you eat in the entire day. Focus on hitting your macros and calories for the entire day, okay? And don't stress yourself out. In terms of body composition, meal timing is in order of importance. Meal timing is like, you know, right up here, and then your total calories and macros are the foundations, okay? So yeah, anyways, we're gonna drink this, and then we're also gonna get some froyo as well after that, because we went to this place yesterday and they serve Butter Pecan flavor, okay? I've never had that flavor before in my life. It is phenomenal. We are in the place that Coachella goes on, otherwise known as the Influencer Olympics. But so we're in Palm Springs. Last time I was here, I was actually with Emily Hayden, Amanda Bucci, and a bunch of other friends as well, a bunch of their friends. And I was here for an event called Splash House, and it was absolutely insane. It's like a pool party festival. So Palm Springs, it's also known for Coachella. It's also known for pool parties too. So we're gonna go get this fro-yo now, and then we're gonna go see if there's any pool parties going on. Today's Sunday, so should be one on. That's usually like people go out Saturday, pool party Sunday. But yeah, so we've got a workout out of the way, probably about to go down. We're gonna go on the hunt for a pool party. I was gonna go to Coachella last year, but instead I chose to hang out with you guys and the Ghost Squad at the Sydney Fitness Expo. Obviously no complaints, Sydney is absolutely amazing, so I actually chose that. But, uh, next year I definitely want to go. Tutti Frutti frozen yogurt. So here we go, here's the culprit. So good. It's a healthy man. Oh, strawberry, so healthy. Strawberries are Raspberries, some coconut flakes, and look here, we got some no-sugar-added chocolate. Epic. And then we're gonna do a bit of hashtag balance and put in some of these. Okay, so for my fro-yo creation, we did white chocolate raspberry cheesecake flavor. That's what's going down. Gonna obviously smash this, and then we're gonna go search about for a party. Fro-yo porn. That's unbelievable. Here's mine. Okay, we're trying out something called the Keto Crust and Blaze Pizza. It's one of my favorite chains, and I'm just curious what this is gonna taste taste like? She goes to the gym once. Yeah. Chicken? Yeah. Mushrooms? Uh, yes. Oh, and I love them. Oh, we can do half and half. Okay, so this is the keto pizza. The macros on this look absolutely ridiculous. Something like 6 grams of carbs, 50 grams of protein. Okay, now is the taste test. Okay, that's what really matters. All right. It. Obviously not as good as real pizza, but very close. Nearly beats the Lipsett pizza. Comment down below if you remember that one. All right, so we just finished it there. Linda's on the last slice. That was actually unbelievable, so like for what it was. And you kind of like, after you eat a huge large Domino's pizza, like you feel a bit gross. That's like, feels sharp, feels like you just ate like just a ton of protein, which you did. But that was solid. This pizza ain't poop, Arnie. All right, so tonight we're going for some Mexican food. This is a right bit of me. Like, I love this. Like, I, I'm, I'm torn between that and this right here. Either way, I'm gonna be looking sharp tonight. Oh, right, okay, right. Where's James Dean? Okay, right, we gotta pay respect to James Dean. Oh, here he is. Okay, right, maybe Linda, you can get Elvis and I'll get the James Dean, the original badass. All right, so finally it's cold enough to live. Live a normal life out here. No, seriously, like, the heat is the hottest place I've ever been. This is a look at our room. So huge bed. It's a bit messy right now, so excuse. Oh, big TV over here. Little kitchen. Happy anniversary, even though it's not really our anniversary, but we pretend it is. Bathroom here. Yeah, literally multiple times a week. Shower. Big bath, 2 sinks, and check this— the fire pit and another bathtub just in case you need 2. This is called La Serena Villas, and not a collab or anything, just paid for it. Um, I would definitely love to come back here for Coachella weekend, like seriously, it's one nice place we ever stayed at. Um, staff are lovely as well, food is amazing. Actually, there's a restaurant up there called Azúcar and that's so good, right? We went there on our first night. Wouldn't mind going there tonight, but we kind of like trying out as many different places when we go to a certain place. I think it's kind of like, it's always fun trying out a new location. But right, so we're gonna hit the pool, probably have a drink, and then get ready for dinner. Summer bod. Currently right now, my body fat percentage is that of a guy that hits the gym regularly but also enjoys the odd drink and pizza here and there. All right, boys and girls, super casual tonight. Even let my hair down a little bit. So we're just wearing some Alphalead scoop neck, tucked in crew, you know how it is. Follow me on Instagram, probably part of the tucked in crew. And these kind of like suit jogger pants from Boohoo and Twelve Watches, which is a cool Irish brand that I'm working with at the moment. So right, our reservation is in 15 minutes, it's just down the road, we're gonna walk over. I was saying, okay, the only carb source that I've eaten today was that fro-yo, which was 50 grams of carbs at most. So I'm going all in on this dinner. I'm going all in. You going all in? You're going all in. We're all going all in, okay? Give me all the tacos. Let's go. Alright, so here we go. Las Casuelas Terraza. Run, run, run. Las Casuelas Terraza, since 1958. First. Ah, this is amazing. The bulk has already begun. They brought nachos within seconds. That is the type of service that I like. Okay, I thought I was being healthy ordering chicken. That is sauce featuring a little bit of chicken. Oh my God. All right, gonna sip on a little Mexican meal. You're gonna eat this beautiful Mexican food. Look at that. Okay, the most healthy thing here is probably the salad, but either way, right, it's summer, we're gonna enjoy it. Gonna make these gains, right? I'm gonna wrap this vlog up here. Thanks so much for watching. Tomorrow we got a Venice meetup, so that's gonna be very fun. So see you guys in that vlog. Workout goals, gonna be a good time. Catch you there. See you. Bye! Keep growing.
