WHY I MOVED OUT OF IRELAND

In this vlog, creator Rob Lipsett documents his departure from Dublin and relocation to London. He begins with a quick, candid tour of his Dublin apartment in the Beacon Hotel, explaining his desire for privacy after past fan encounters. He then packs, drives his car onto an Irish ferry for the first time, and embarks on a road trip from Holyhead to London, sharing snack choices and observations about the ferry experience. Upon arrival, he tours his new, spacious London flat, highlighting its studio‑like layout, multiple bathrooms, outdoor area, and a home cinema setup, emphasizing its suitability for cooking videos, podcasts, and Q&A recordings. He recounts a mishap where his car is towed from outside the flat and his interaction with the vehicle pound. Throughout, he reflects on why he moved: seeking inspiration, being closer to the majority of his UK‑based audience, accessing a larger fitness‑vlogger community, and escaping Dublin’s high rent. He outlines his 2020 content goals, including reviving his "Cooking with Lip" series, creating a dedicated recording studio, and producing more frequent videos. The vlog ends with optimism about the new environment and a promise to explain the move in more detail in a future video.

All right, people, so this is the last you are gonna see of this apartment. Right now it looks like someone trashed the place. Holes in the wall, TV's gone. But I am moving to London in the morning. I'm driving over. I just packed up everything, put it in my car, and my ferry is at about 7 or 8 AM. So yeah, I gotta be there very early. But I never actually gave you guys an apartment tour of where I've been living for the last year, just about a year. The reason for that is because it's quite a recognizable place in Dublin. It's actually in a hotel, the Beacon Hotel, and yeah, I just get kind of creeped out at saying where I live on YouTube and giving details because in my old place in Foxrock, people would actually wait outside my gate. I appreciate that and all, I love you guys, but I don't know, I just like to keep some things in my life private, so This is a super quick apartment tour. This is the main living area. Obviously there's the kitchen, looks like a complete mess right now. The island out here, it's pretty dark right now, so I don't know if you can see. Out here is a big balcony. That's one bedroom, two bedroom. Then here is the main hallway. This is the bathroom that I usually used. This is— this was kind of just like a luggage room. So yeah, you know, not much going on in here. I didn't, I didn't spend too much time. I didn't spend too much time in there. Then in here, this was the spare bedroom that I used as a walk-in wardrobe because I am a loner and I've lived on my own for the last 3 years and will continue to do so. There is a second bathroom and a shower in there, and then this is usually where I slept. I think in the last vlog you saw me wearing those pajamas. This is a pile of clothes that I've yet to move, a wardrobe. The place is actually pretty nice and it was more than enough room for just me on my own. But yeah, I'll talk about later in the vlog why I'm moving and what the plan for the coming year is. But be sure to give the video a thumbs up I'm gonna go to sleep now for maybe like 6 hours, then we're gonna wake up, we're gonna get on the ferry. I've never actually done this before, drive a car onto a ferry, and then we're gonna go over to the UK, and then we got a nice 5-hour drive. Let me show you where I'm living. So anyways, uh, yeah, life's an adventure. Let's do it. Actually, no, put one there. You fit one on top of the black one, but then that'll stop your vision. Stop your vision. I think it's just gonna have to go there. Look at that. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. 2 trunks in the back. And then look, you're my videographer now, Mom. So this morning's breakfast is going to be kind of coconut Red Bull, protein bar, and an apple. Let's get this show on the road. Oh, I look like I like Gollum from Lord of the Rings. Oh, I just about made it to the ferry port. I think I got 2 minutes until this check-in closes. Yeah, this is pretty cool. It's the first time I've ever driven a car onto the ferry. So yeah, please God we get on it and then we're off. All right, so this is my first time on an Irish ferry. Pretty cool, to be honest. Um, I did not realize how big they are. She said yes, I'm just going to go on and leave everything here. Yes, check this place out. I think this is where we want to be going. This is me off on my new life. So, okay, hello, Baxter. Kop khao san. Alright, so there is meal number 1 of the day. Seeing as I'm going to be traveling all day, I'm going to try to eat as well as possible. But on that road trip from Holyhead to London, I'm feeling there's just going to be like a McDonald's on the way or something. But either way, this looks great. And yeah, I'm loving the ferry. Gonna get them more often. Well, if I ever need to. All right, so ferries are my new thing. I'm like super interested in like engineering, aviation, airplanes. It's my first time on a ferry and it's like, it's like a big airplane that you can walk around. Let's go outside. Okay, the weather doesn't look too great and I'm in a t-shirt because I left my jacket back. Oh, my phone doesn't blow over the side. Maybe it also goes hot. Okay, enough hot. I bet that would be like really nice on like a warm day. That's not today. All right, people, so we are back in the car. That was a really quick journey. And so yeah, now we are about to drive from Holyhead to London, straight to my apartment, and I'm gonna meet the person who's handing me over the keys, and I'm gonna get my first proper look at this place. I picked it out online. I got like a video tour of it. It looks amazing. The location is, is the best location ever. It's crazy. And I actually got a really, really good deal, really good price on it as well. I'm really excited to see it for the first time in person. So yeah, I'm gonna stick on a podcast, hopefully find like a really long one, like at least like 2 to 3 hours. I'm gonna like pick out a few of them and just learn about something new. And that's why I love podcasts and YouTube so much. Like on this drive now, I can completely further my knowledge on training, nutrition, business, anything. Isn't the internet just great? Anyways, um, I'll show you if I stop off for food along the way, show you if there's anything worth a video. I think it's just gonna be a lot of motorways. But anyways, I'm feeling good, I'm very excited, and I feel like I'm on an adventure. So yeah, let's go. All right, so first pit stop underway is a Starbucks behind me. There's a Burger King, there's Subway. I'll be gonna go for Subway. Let's check it out. That's great, thank you very much. Cheers. All right, so here's a little look at what I got. A little diet drink there and double protein. Got the fiber, high fiber bread, so just keep them full for a while and help me hit protein intake today. All right, people, we're back in the car. Um, That should do me for a while. Also picked up an Iron Brew, sugar-free one. These ain't too popular in Dublin, I don't think I've seen them, so wow, real culture shock. So I've got a big whack of driving ahead of me now. I'm gonna try not stop for as long as possible and then hopefully get there before 5 PM. So yeah, let's hit the road. All right, people, I am not sure where I am, but I do know I'm about 2 and a half hours away, so this is probably the last time I'm gonna check in with you guys before I get to the apartment. I imagine it's going to get dark soon enough though, but I'm scheduled to be there at about 5 PM. So yeah, I'm getting a little bit tired, so obviously cracking open a little White Monster. And then yeah, so this should be the final stretch, and then I'll see you guys in a brand new home. Nervous, excited. I hope it's not like on Tinder or Bumble, you know, when it's like they look great in the pictures and then, you know, you meet up with them, it's not the same as pictures. I hope my apartment looks great in person. Okay people, we have arrived. The place is insane. I did not get catfished, okay? Thank God I did not get apartment catfished, okay? The place is way bigger than it looks in pictures, which is usually the other way around. It's like my Instagram. But I'll give you a quick little tour right now. But as you can see, my stuff is everywhere. I literally just got in. I haven't figured out how to work all the lights and everything, but oh my God. Okay, you come in, one bathroom here, and there's a cloakroom, washer dryer back there. This is the main bedroom here. It came with a desk. I'm gonna use that in the office. I'll show you that in a second. Wardrobe space is there. TV. You got a nice bathroom number one in there. I'm also gonna fill all this up with cool art and paintings. So hit me up if you do some art. Then in here we got bedroom number 2, and they are taking that bed and putting it in storage. The landlord was amazing with that. And I'm turning this into a studio office space, okay? There's actually an outdoor area, outdoor area number 1 there. This is going to be a big studio for recording Q&As, doing podcasts, everything. We got bathroom number 3 in there. That's worth it. We got bathroom number 3 in here. I'll obviously do a proper tour when it's all kind of like done up and nice. Got a huge dining table there. Then in here we have the living room area. We got the kitchen. So like, think of this, okay, for cooking videos. Like, look how open that is. It's going to have natural light coming in from there. And there, the outdoor area here. So again, that's all going to be lit up. We got a freaking tree. I'm going to do all this up nicely, so this would be cool for having parties and stuff. I'm most excited about the cooking videos, to be honest. All right, and then last but not least, it's got a freaking home cinema and a projector. Netflix and chill, what's up baby? Anyways, I'm so excited for a new atmosphere, a new environment, and I'm ready to literally crush it in 2020. I am gonna go out now, look for some duvets and maybe some groceries, something to kind of make myself a little bit more at home here. But this is just insane, like I can't believe it, in the heart of London, one of the biggest cities in Europe. This is just insane. So I'll see you guys tomorrow. I'm gonna get some rest and I'll see explain to you. I'll sit down and explain to you properly why I moved to London and what this year has in store. So yeah, this is crazy. So much room for activities. Yo, what's up everybody? So, uh, woke up today, first day in London, stepped outside my apartment and my car was gone. So I proceeded to freak the fuck out and then call the police. So I told them my car was stolen but turns out it got towed, which is such a nice start to my life in London. So I'm here at the vehicle pound, about to go pick it up. I'm hoping I can explain to them, be like, hey, I live here now, it's my proof of address, can I get a parking permit? Because it was literally taken from outside my apartment. I guess you just gotta laugh at this shit, don't you? But, um, I'll let you know how it goes. This is literally my first London experience, get my car towed. It's gonna be a funny vlog. All right, it's like that episode of Simpsons. Maybe we go in, like, break it out. All right, here we go. Hey, yeah, how's it going? My car was towed, uh, about an hour ago. And, um, see, I actually just moved here from Dublin to London. So I'm yet to get a parking permit. I've got my proof of address. It was taken just outside my address. So is there any way we could get a parking permit? Yeah, but not in this place. Okay. At this point, I was close to offering them a free training plan and a copy of my book. Yes. Yeah. And would you reckon they can refund me? Safe to say I didn't get a refund. And had to pay over £300 to get my car back. Okay, yeah, there she is. All right, we're out of here. What's up everybody? So last time we were talking, I was picking my car up from the car impound but life is a little bit better now, okay? So I've settled in a little bit more to the house. We got bed sheets, we got duvet covers, so that's a huge bonus. And I've kind of started to unpack. I've set up my little kind of tech drawer, so that's made me feel way much more at home. So we just got all like my camera equipment and, uh, recording equipment and my little YouTube plaque there. So right, look, let's sit down and, um, we'll talk you through why I'm here. Okay, so to end the video, I'm gonna go through some reasons why I moved to London for the next couple of months, okay? It's not permanent, you know, I could come home crying to mommy next week, I don't know, okay? But the main reason was I needed to change things up a little bit. Like I showed you, I was living less than a kilometer away from Raw Gym Sandiford. I would go to the gym, I would go back to my apartment, that is my day, okay? Like, that was literally my day. I need— I felt uninspired. Like, my— I was just looking out onto a motorway. My apartment was literally in a hotel, so it didn't seem like home. The hotel's in an industrial estate, you know. I just needed a bit more inspiration and to be in a new environment, you know. I love Dublin. I love it with all my heart. You won't find somebody who loves Dublin more than me. Like, I've lived there my whole life. But I'm just like, okay, I need to— while I have an online job, I should live somewhere else while I'm still so young as well. I'm just 27. Next point is connections. And most of my subscribers, when you click into analytics, not only are most from the UK, you can actually go even further in and see what city they're from. Most are actually from London. So this is going to help a lot with events. I even just, you know, I went to the gym there, to Equinox. And, you know, ran into a subscriber there and made my day. So like, again, you know, a lot of the people that watch these videos are London-based, so it made sense for the move, as in it's not too far away from Dublin. And again, a ton of my viewers are from there. And on top of that, there is a bigger YouTube and fitness scene in the UK in general. You know, there is a handful of fitness vloggers in Ireland, couldn't even name 5 to be honest. And you know, most of them All of them I've already collabed with, so yeah, I need to broaden my horizons and network a little bit more. Finally, rent in Dublin is insane. Like, this place is— it's so central, it's so much bigger and more open than my previous apartment, and it's honestly not that much more expensive. If you talk to anyone from Ireland, especially Dublin, there's actually a legit housing crisis going on. Like, seriously, the rent is just insane. That was another reason. You do get a lot more bang for your buck. You're in one of the biggest hubs in Europe here. So yeah, um, it's nuts. One day when I return as President of Ireland— uh, you can actually only be President of Ireland when you're 35, so again, I have a few more years to wait until I come back and run for presidency— but the rental crisis and the housing crisis is one thing that I will look to fix. Haha, I'm just kidding. Or am I? Seeing as I love Ireland so much, again, it's probably where I will settle down in the future. I was very, very close to buying a house, you know, I went into the bank, got mortgage approved, they were like, "Yo, this guy's sick, go buy a house," and then I was like, I've never lived anywhere else in my whole life. Like, I've travelled tonnes, but I've never actually lived anywhere for like a couple of months. Again, I'm 27, I've never lived anywhere else, I'm like, do I really want to rush into things, buying something like that's so permanent, buying somewhere when I've never actually lived anywhere else. So yeah, this is going to be great life experience. Another thing is content. I purposely chose this place because it looks like a freaking studio. Like, seriously, back in the day when I just started out on YouTube, I would make videos that were just cooking. Like, it would be like top bodybuilding meals, or like try these 4 recipes. And I didn't feel like doing that in my old place. Now, like, look at this. Like, this literally looks like a studio. Like, it's crazy. It's like, I'm gonna do cooking— like, I had a series back in the day called Cooking with Lip. That's making a comeback! I was so lucky to get it. Like, it's all white, it's so open, it literally— like, it's loads of natural light. It literally looks like a recording studio, and that was the main reason why I chose this place. So again, I want to be able to produce more content than ever. I'm like, I'm literally gonna turn that room into an actual recording studio as if I'm a rapper, just I don't make any rap music, I make YouTube videos. And yes, I'm super excited for that. So more content than ever, that is like my main 2020 resolution. So if anyone is in London, hit me up, let's link up, let's have an amazing for a few months. And yeah, let's see how we get on. Thanks so much for joining me on this journey in life, and see you in the next video. Keep it real. Happy 2020.
