3 Keys to Freedom in the Moving Business
Podcast episode (hosted by Louis Massaro) that explains success in the moving business is principally about achieving freedom — freedom to do what you want, when you want, with whom you want. Massaro argues that three practical, interlocking keys enable that freedom for moving-company owners: (1) organization (planning days/weeks and priorities), (2) commitment (total, non-dabbling dedication), and (3) discipline (daily habits that follow the plan). The episode closes with a call-to-action for a free on-demand training, “Six Stages of a Moving Company Sales Machine,” available at lewismassaro.com.
Foreign.
It's Louis Massaro. And welcome to another episode of the Moving Mastery Podcast.
So what's success really all about, right? Why do you go to work every single day to run your business, to put plans in place, to try new things, to try new marketing sources, to try to grow, expand. What is it really all about, right? Is it about more money? I don't think so. It's really about freedom. Freedom to do what you want, when you want, with who you want, in whatever style or way you want to do it in. And your business is the platform that will allow you to achieve that life, right? Money. What's money except dirty paper that everybody's put their hands on? It's disgusting, it's filthy. But what it does is it buys you the freedom that you want. You want to go see the world. The money will get you there, right? But how do you get the money, your business? So when you're thinking about, you know, how do I stay motivated? How do I break through? I keep seeming to hit that wall, right? I get to a certain level and I can't get past that. What is it that you really want? What's on the other side of that wall that you can't get past? Because if you don't have a big enough why for, you know, why you need to break through that wall or find a way around that wall, then you're not going to do it. You're going to wake up every day or, you know, every few days or every so often, and you're not going to feel like getting out of bed. You're not going to feel like going and, you know, putting those new strategies in place. You're not going to feel like hiring that person that you need to really help you advance your business. You're not going to on the phones and booking moves. You're not going to feel like dispatching the trucks. So if you have any type of lack of motivation, you need to first ask yourself, what is it I really want? And for most people, it's freedom. Freedom to do what you want, when you want, with who you want, and whatever type of style and way you want. What is that for you? Because, you know, recently I was talking with somebody at our moving sales academy, our VIP group that was there, our private Q and A, and he said, I've lost my motivation. I was like, okay, well, what's your current goals, right? He said, oh, I don't really have any. I said, well, are you happy with what's going on? He's like, yeah, I Mean, you know, we're making money.
Things are running. I said, is that what you want? Do you want more? Because, you know, I guess that's something I need to think about. I said, yeah, it's something you need to think about. And if you are not motivated, it's just because there's nothing that is compelling you to be motivated. You have to look out and say, what is it that I want? What do I want my life to be like? And then believe that you can get there and that'll motivate you. All right? But what you also need, what the three keys to freedom are, number one is organization. If you're not organized in your life, in your day to day, you, in your thoughts, in your planning, in your strategy, you're not going to be able to get out of your own way. So if you're continuously hitting that wall.
Organization, get organized, Start planning out your weeks, start planning out your days, figure out what it is you really want and be proactive in going after those goals and going after those plans and getting them accomplished, as opposed to just showing up every day to work and letting you know, everyone else hook into you and drag you all over the place, right? What is it you want? How are you going to get there and organize and execute around those priorities? Okay? The second key to freedom is commitment. A lot of people don't succeed because they're not truly committed. They might say, oh, I've made a decision to do this and I'm going to do that, or I'm going to try this and let me, you know, give this a shot and see if it works. That's not commitment. True commitment is not being a dabbler and saying, you know what, let me try a couple of these things and see if they work. True commitment is I'm going to make this moving company work, okay? I'm going to find a way. I am committed to get it done by any and every means necessary. That's how I succeeded, right? It wasn't at first that I had the, you know, all the answers and all the processes I had to find those. But if I wasn't committed, truly committed, like, you know, I'm gonna burn the ships behind me. If you've ever heard the whole story about, you know, they came to take over, take over the country, right? And the guy leading the ship, I can't think of his name right now, said, you know what? I'm burning the ships behind us. There is no retreat, there is no withdrawal from this. We fight and we win. Or we fight and we die. Period. You need that level of intensity if you really want to make it. And if that's not for you, then maybe business isn't for you. But if you're like Louis, I can't seem to figure out why I can't break through. You need to be totally, totally, 100% committed to finding a way to make it happen, because it's not like you're venturing out into some uncharted territory. If you're in the. If you're watching this and you're in the moving business, there are a lot of people today right now making a lot of money doing local moves, only doing long distance moves. Storage doesn't matter. So if they can do it, why can't you do it? Okay. Be truly committed to finding a way, getting yourself, you know, whatever, you know, mentoring, whatever education, whatever you need to find the steps. Be truly committed to doing it. And don't dabble and see if things work out. Because when you have a plan B, when you don't burn the ships behind you and you know, you can always retreat and go back home, that's always in the back of your head, and you become much less resourceful, and chances you making it will be very, very slim. All right? The third key to freedom, because that's what you want here, is freedom to go where you want to, do what you want, to, hang out with what you want to, you know, fly the way you want, to, drive the way you want to live the way you want. The third key to that freedom is discipline. Once you're organized, once you're committed to making it happen, and you know the steps you need to take, you know the habits that are leading you towards what you want, and you know, the habits that are leading you away from what you want. You need to be disciplined every day to say, these are the things I need to do because I'm committed to doing them. Being organized is going to allow you to do that much easier and have that discipline to really see things through. All right? There's no, you know, magic sauce in why some people are not able to succeed in their moving company, and some people are able to take it to that next level. It's all about this. You are your business. Your business is you. And it's, you know, time to stop focusing so much on what to do and think about who you need to become if you really want to reach that next level. Listen, I hope this was helpful, my friend. Go out there every single day, profit in your business, driving your life. I'll see you next time.
