This is a YouTube video titled "What makes a company a unicorn?" created on July 2, 2025. The content features a single speaker discussing the characteristics of unicorn companies—private companies valued over $1 billion—including their agile test-and-learn environments, customer-centric product innovation, and quick decision-making culture. The speaker also highlights the challenges of monetization and the role of expert consulting in helping these companies grow further.
You unicorns are private companies that are valued over $1 billion and there are over 300 unicorns globally. We have worked with some of the biggest unicorns, including Uber, Airbnb and Stripe to some of the latest additions to the list like Asana. Overall, we have worked with 32 unicorns thus far. The three takeaways that companies can learn from unicorns, the first one, having an agile test and learn environment when they actually build products. Unicorn companies are not really afraid of testing and learning and they really focus on bringing the right products to the market and iterate over a period of time. The second big takeaway for companies would be to adopt a customer centricity kind of approach to their product innovations. I mean, these companies actually truly look at unmet needs in the market and then productize to solve for specific pain points. So it's a bit of designing the products around what customers value and not just building a product and slapping a price and hope to monetize. And the third big takeaway is the ability to actually make quick decisions. They empower employees and the culture is really about making fast decisions. There's no political discussions, big meetings. It's more about getting the right thing done and, and empowering people to actually take actions and accepting that sometimes the actions can be wrong. But still the point is to try, test and learn and bring out ideas faster to market. Unicorns in general are really successful companies. These companies have achieved the right product market fit and they are growing exponentially. The number one topic that's often discussed in boardrooms is monetization. Often no one really has a full clue as to how to go about this, but everyone has an opinion that's actually ripe for expert advice and consulting and advisory services. That's kind of where we really fit in. So I would like to think that this is a bit of a team effort, working with unicorns to take them to the next level.
