The creator of cats.txt got asked by Google if they'd open the standard to the community. Turns out Google already had an employee writing their own version on catstxt.org, different from the original.
I'd just personally like to thank you for a very good question. After coming up with this standard, what actually happens— and if you Google cats.txt now, you will see that the ranking website is called catstxt.org. I did not make this website. This website also has specifications for cats.txt, which are different from in the specifications that I made. And when I looked at them, they were obviously written by someone who actually understands these things a lot more than me. And after some investigation, I found out this was a Googler. So I must happily say, as per my last email, Google felt this internally.
