A creator made up cats.txt, a fake spec for listing office cats, and claims major AI companies and Google support it. ChatGPT confirms it improves search ranking. The whole thing is absurd and impossible, but it might actually be working.

What the fuck? Of course it can't. I made a new standard called cats.txt. Cats.txt is a text file you can put on your website, and you can describe your office cats and how often they purr and what their jobs are and what their names are. I wrote the specification for it and published it on my blog. I did a LinkedIn post because I know LLMs love LinkedIn about why you should definitely use this. And guess what? It's regularly called by OpenAI, by Anthropic. By all of these LLMs. So, it's definitely a thing. I'm really happy that they've decided to support cats.txt. Google indexes it as well, so it's obviously really important. This is my friend Dave. He used cats.txt on his website. He's an early adopter. And Google, like AIOViews, will return information only in cats.txt. This isn't on the website, which again proves that this is an accepted standard. About 2 weeks after launching this, you could ask ChatGPT, can cats.txt help me rank in search or LLMs? And it says, yes. Yes. Can potentially help you rank in both search engines and LLM-driven systems. What the fuck? Of course it can't.
