Let's talk about what certification a notary signing agent must have. Hi, I'm Mark Wills, America's largest notary public loan signing agent coach. And I'm often asked Mark, what certification does a notary signing agent really need? And the truth is there is not one certification that is required that all notary signing agents must take. And this is coming from a guy who sells a certification. The truth is the notary signing agent industry does not have one governing body like the association of Realtors that real estate agents have. So therefore there is not one force certification that is required by all notary public loan signing agents. The only technical requirement to be a notary public loan signing agent is to be a commission notary in your state. That's it. However, there are two signing agent certifications that are available that are highly recognized by title companies and signing services alike. And if you receive them, you will get more loan signing business. These two certifications you'll need are one, the National Notary association or NNA certification two, the loan signing system certification. Again, you should have both because various notary public loan signing agent databases and mortgage professionals recognize these two certifications specifically. But most importantly, these are two separate and distinct SO certifications that complement each other. So let's start with the NNA certification and why you should get it. There's a focus that they have and that is on compliance, legal requirements and protecting the public. And they were founded in 1957, helped draft the Uniform Notary act and the largest notary training company in America. And their four goals are one help agents comply with laws, two, help agents avoid any liability and three, limit risk to signers and employers. And finally, number four, promote professionalism within the industry. In short, the NNA focuses on teaching the laws of being a signing agent. The NNA certification does include a background check included to ensure you are not a fraudulent notary, which let's address quickly because why in the world would you need a secondary background check if you already received one in order to become a notary in the first place? So the background check you received with your state is only needed once every four years or whenever your commission renews. However, between the time you received your commission and the time you take their certification, you could have been involved in fraud. So the secondary background check that comes included with the NNA certification simply ensures the mortgage professional there's been no fraud from the time of your last cleared background check that came with your notary commission. And now again, it should make sense as the NNA is all about Compliance. And that is the why it is recognized by some title companies and signing services in America. So why do you need the loan signing system certification? Notice what the NA doesn't cover a deep understanding of loan documents. In fact, you don't need to take my word for it here. It is directly from the NNA itself, lss.
And what you guys do over there is great because it gives the notary a deeper understanding of what those mortgage processes look like, what each part of the process looks like, so that people can also be more ready to go in and talk to these title companies and all of the different people that they want to do business with and come in as competent and understanding how they can serve that customer.
If a loan signing agent by definition is a notary who understands real estate loan documents, then how do you prove to the hiring parties that you not only understand real estate loan documents, but that you know where every single place or borrower needs a sign date and initial on those very loan documents? And the answer is the loan signing system certification. As the loan signing system teaches and certifies on how to go over the five major mortgage products that you will see at a loan signing appointment. The first one being a purchase and the second one being a refinance. The third a seller package. And that's when a seller sells a home, they have paperwork and needs to be signed and notarized. Number four is a heloc, a home equity line of credit, and five is a reverse mortgage. It is simple. The loan signing system signifies to mortgage professionals that you not only have training on the loan documents, but you've been trained and where the borrower needs to exactly sign and date and initial on every loan document regardless of mortgage product. And frankly, if you're trying to be a notary public loan signing agent without knowing loan docs intimately, then you won't have a great chance of success. We are literally hired to walk a borrower through their home loan paperwork. And to put it simply, the NNA certification covers the laws of being a signing agent and loan signing system certification covers how to execute the perfect loan signing regardless of what mortgage product you are doing. So now you can see why having both certifications together shows mortgage professionals not not only are you compliant, but you can also execute a loan signing flawlessly. So while there is not one certification that is universally recognized by every mortgage professional in the country, you can see why taking these two certifications can help you get more business as a notary public loan signing agent. But the loan signing system doesn't stop at teaching you how to do a loan signing. It also teaches you how to get loan signings so you can actually make money as a notary signing agent. Along with your loan signing system certification comes the best step by step training for notaries how to build a successful loan signing business. I mean what good is knowing the laws of being a notary public loan signing agent and how to do the five major loan products but not knowing how to obtain loan signings so you can make the money you deserve? Loan signing systems only focus is to teach you how to become a top performing money making notary loan signing agent which means you know how to do a signing and how to get signed signings. I tell my students all the time you can make as much per appointment as many highly paid professionals. So take your career seriously and get these two certifications.
