8 Minute Sore to the Core Ab Workout - Beginner Babe Challenge Day 5

In this 8‑minute beginner core session, MaryKate Schmidt leads the Day 5 workout of her Beginner Babe Challenge. She greets the community, reminds participants to use the challenge calendar, and walks through a repeatable sequence of core moves: alternating leg raises (or bent‑knee variation), flutter kicks, slow ab‑bike (ab‑bites), baby crunches, and a 1‑minute forearm plank. Throughout the class she offers modification cues (hands under the glutes, knee bend, tabletop drop), motivational prompts, and timing cues (countdowns for each interval). The routine is positioned as a quick, equipment‑free workout that can fit into any day, with encouragement to post progress selfies and a brief guest appearance by “Lou.” The video blends instructional choreography with community‑building language, emphasizing consistency, self‑celebration, and the importance of core strength for overall fitness.

Hey squad, we are back in the Movement by MK studio and I am so excited to sweat with you here as always and to keep continuing this Beginner Babe Challenge with you. I am so pumped to be on day 5 and I know how hard it is to keep showing up, so I want you to take a moment right now to congratulate yourself for being here. So remember, this workout is going to be your core workout for the week. You can pick up and do this workout anytime, anywhere with no equipment. If you are doing the challenge, make sure you have your challenge calendar. If you haven't gotten it yet, you can subscribe below. It will get sent directly to you. So then after this class, you can check it off, send me your calendar, and go on with the rest of your day. Sound good? Give me a double thumbs up, let me know you're with me, and let's work that killer core. Come down on the mat. We're going to start out with a basic series by bringing your feet up to the ceiling or the sky. Hands are going to come directly behind your neck here. Gaze is going to be up. You're going to start alternating it out with basic leg raises. You can have a slight bend in your knee if that feels better, or you can point those toes and alternate it out. Let's go, squad! We are on— we got 45 seconds here. We're warming up that lower core. Yes, day 5, crushing the week, ready to feel good. That's what it's all about, checking off these challenge workouts one day at a time. 25 seconds, we get ready. We're gonna hold at the bottom here. If you feel like you need an adjustment, you can place your hands underneath your booty at any point. You can follow my lead. We hold 15 seconds. Stay with me here. Come on, good. Alternating it out, holding. In 8, in 7. Hands can go underneath your booty if you need it. In 4, in 3, in 2, and 1. Hold flutter kick for 8, for 7, for 6, for 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. Drive your knees in, rest your head down. Give yourself a second here. Feet are coming back up, ceiling or in 3, in 2, and 1. Feet come right up, tap, alternate it out. So this core sequence, like I said, is something you can throw on any point of the day, any day of the week, if you just want a quick, effective 10-minute workout. You got 30 seconds here. If this is too much, I want a baby crunch. Yep, good. We get ready. 15 seconds, we go into ab bites. You can do this in between your work meetings, or maybe you have children and they've been running around, you need a second to reset. Come on, good. 5 seconds, for 4, for 3, for 2, and 1. Slow ab bites, drive that knee in, alternate it out, protecting your neck the whole time. Good. Whoo! Is your core on fire? How we feeling? We rest our feet in 5, in 4, in 3, 2, and 1. Take a second here. Plant your feet into the mat. We go in baby crunch. Let's hit it. So again, this is a killer core sequence. We're going to start it from the top with those alternating leg raises, and then we just go through the sequence one more time, and that is it. Whoo! Your core is all the muscle that you need to keep you stabilized during lots of your fitness journey. It's so important. All right, are you ready to start it from the top? Let's go. We bring it together in 3, in 2, and 1. Feet up to the ceiling or sky, slight bend in the knees or pointing those toes. We drop it down. Come on. Yes, if you need to slight bend in the knees, head right here, either one works, okay? I'm with you the whole way. Good. All right, 15 seconds, we hold it with those flutter kicks. Now remember, if you need to place your hands underneath your booty, go ahead and do so. All right, we get it, we hit it in 5 In 4, in 3, in 2, and 1. Hands can come underneath, legs fall down. Flutter kick. It's 8, for 7, for 6, for 5, for 4, for 3, 2, and 1. Reset for a second. Grabbing in that knee, alternate it out. Grab in your knee, alternate it out. Good. Take a second to rest. Hold it right here for just a sec. Feet are going to come back up to the ceiling or sky. We change it up just a little bit and we alternate it out, bringing back in that tap. And you stay with me. Yes, you can. That's right. We drop our feet down to the mat and we hit some baby crunches in 4, In 3, in 2, and 1. Drop down, place your hands directly behind your neck, gaze up towards the ceiling or sky. Let's go, little crunch, little crunch. Then we're gonna bring it home with a 1-minute plank. Now I know that might be a little advanced, so you can take as many breaks as you need during that minute, okay? No pressure to stay lifted the whole time. I'm gonna guide you through every step of the way. Remember that we all start somewhere. I was in your shoes before, and a 1-minute plank was extremely difficult, but I know you're up for the challenge. I know you can do hard things. That's why I'm going to guide you through it, okay? All right, we flip on over into our forearms in 3, in 2, and 1. Come and follow my lead. Come and meet me right on your forearms here. 1-minute plank going down to close out your core challenge of the week. You shift your heels on back, you drop those hips down. I don't want those booties up here. Nice flat back. If at any point you need to drop down to tabletop, go ahead and do so. Your minute has started. All right. Have you checked in with yourself yet today? How are you feeling? How are you doing? I know your abs are on fire. I know you're probably like, "MK, day 5 is killer." But think about that. Day 5. You've made it this far. You have to keep going. You must continue to show up. You got 30 seconds here to finish. Come on. Can you drop those hips a little bit lower? Yep. Can you flatten out that back? Can you hold it tight? Can you handle it? Let's go! Good. 15 seconds. You can stay with it. Good. You can drop to your knees. And 10, and 9. Stay with me for 8, for 7. Killer core is done and dusted. In 4, in 3, 2 and 1. Come on down, take a moment to rest and relax, shake it on out. Shake it on out, you guys. We have a special guest here, Lou.
