Austin Maser, a pest-control rep, walks through a door-to-door sale to a homeowner, spotting a large wasp nest and offering treatment. He built 1,067 accounts in 4.5 months and shares his closing tactics: price framing, signature pushback, and focusing the pitch on the problem, not the solution.

Uh, I'm really not interested in this conversation right now. What is the getup here? I have to ask. It looked cool. What is that called? Is that a kilt? You know, this is not a doorway conversation.
Oh, okay.
And you weren't invited here.
All right.
Hey, well, hey, God bless. That's not even okay either, dude.
Oh, what?
Don't assume religion either. Oh, okay. Hey, no, we're good. Okay, you're uninvited from the property. Please leave. Take care. Enjoy your evening. Don't even be doing that. All right, all right, all right.
What's this?
We're headed out. We're headed out. Can you film me? Getting here was not easy. Like, I flew into Atlanta with Norman. Our flights got canceled. Very little sleep. Every reason to make excuses. Like, no, no, no, we're gonna go out and go throw down. And a lot of you guys right now, you have stuff that happens in your summer and you let it throw you off so much when it's like, dude, just play the cards that you've been dealt instead of freaking out about how things didn't go the way you wanted it to. And in the same breath, make sure you have a routine. Make sure you have some structure. But if something happens like a missed flight, And like, like what happened to us today, don't lose, don't, don't lose your cool. This individual that approached me is like, dude, like it stresses me out when someone cancels before the service. I'm like, dude, if that's the most stressful thing that you have going on in your life, number one, your life's not hard enough. But number two, things will not always go as planned. Door-to-door reps are really superstitious, and if things, they fall out of their routine, they think the whole day is gone. You can still make every day good. Don't self-sabotage just because you had a late start, but don't let the late starts happen every day. But if it happens every now and then, it happens. Like Ma'am, so happy that I caught you. Good to meet you. Name's Austin.
Hello, Austin.
Oh, I don't want this to hit you. Look right up there in that eave. Do you see that?
Yes.
Oh boy, the wasps out here are something else, huh? Main thing we are dealing with are those big wasp nests. You know how long that's been there, or is it— that's been there for months, it looks like.
Well, there's a bird that goes in and out there.
Yeah, I don't think so. Well, that's a wasp nest.
That's a vent.
Yeah. Where the 2 rooflines come together. Do you see that? 2 hours later.
That's a vent.
That's a massive wasp nest. So we do a discount for this community just because we are, you know, we're so new. As far as the bug service goes, you've never had a company in the past, have you?
No.
Okay. I'll tell you how it works. But assuming you like it, we get you set up with everybody else and we make it affordable because we know a lot of people are on a fixed income, on a budget. When you say we, did I hear another gentleman back here, or—
My husband is home.
Okay, great. Well, who's going to be the one at the end of the day to call this? Usually the women are in charge of this one, am I right? Let's be real. You run the house around here, don't you?
Well, I would—
Should I just talk to both you guys at the same time so you don't have to hear it twice? That might be—
That's okay.
You can kind of do it to me. But the biggest thing is I need to brush that down ASAP. If we don't treat that, The wasps are gonna get in through the siding. They'll get into the attic, and they will breed inside your house. Uh, would you even want the inside sprayed or just the outside sprayed like everybody else?
We don't have much inside.
Okay. And what's a good phone number for you, Joanne?
434—
But I'm gonna have this all sent over to you, ma'am. I'll just have you sign in this white box there saying I went over that with you. Just in this white box right there.
I'd like to think about this.
Houston, we have a problem. I don't want you to ever be in a position again Where you've got wasp up there.
That's a vent.
Would you rather do debit or credit for that first one?
I think I want to talk to my husband before I—

DM me the word workshop to get a link to buy your ticket today. And I'll put this card on file here in a second. Well, one of you guys make that welcome sheet for me. It'll be the $129 for the library discount for the first one. You have any other questions? Did I— did I do it? Did I do a good job covering everything?
So when are you coming?
I'm going to have this done today. I'm going to text Lauren. She's my technician. She'll be out here tacking those wasps. Not the bees!
Ahhh!
You gotta tell those wasps not to bite her, okay? Or the stinger. Okay, I'm also gonna send you a picture of this. That way, in case you lose it, you've got a copy of it. You always knock one more door before you grab your caffeine. You always knock one more door. We're still hustling. I'm telling you, as we're about to pound this, we're gonna go keep knocking. Oh boy, they got them all. They actually have a really— do they have the raspberry cream ones yet?
Dude, no.
Please don't say that. Okay, Strabango, y'all pick what you want.
Best price.
Best price and I will do it. Promise you I worked hard. I did 1,067 accounts, 4 and a half months. Dangerous levels of caffeine. All right, what's something you guys have learned so far? Show them all this stuff. That was really good. I moved her, right? Yeah, she couldn't see what you were looking at for a sec.
That was the event.
She thought it was a bird, but then she actually saw like the wasp nest. So she's probably never seen that before. Dude, it was big. That was also like a pretty fun deal because you guys see me just— I just implement the same thing I did with the other guy. And then, okay, here's something really important. I went for a signature. I got pushback. What was the second close I went for? Do you guys remember? So I didn't want to beat a dead horse with signature, signature, signature, signature, because then they tense up and they're like, bruh, like, no. So I was like, yeah, yeah, all I really need from you just for that first one, you want to do debit or credit? But did you notice with the old lady? I do this with old ladies all the time. How much are you paying for the first one? How much is it per month? How long is the contract for? Like, dude, that lady was all with it. I was out with a rep the other day. Their customer goes, "I got dementia." He goes, "Oh well, you better go inside and get your wife, bud, because I don't want to do anything bad here." It's just unethical to sign people up that don't know what they're signing up for. Naughty, naughty. Unfortunately, door-to-door reps, specifically in solar, the granny maxers, they have a really big reputation for maxing out grandmas and screwing them over. Not all the solar guys. I know some. There's some really good solar guys, but the worst are the granny maxers. But John, the next thing we'll do, you know how you get like the cracks here at the base of the home?
Yeah.
So that's where the bugs get inside the house. Okay guys, I have no clue if this is like actually interested. Okay John, is she coming on out? I'm not impulse people. I'll take a picture of your flyer if you'll let me. You can take a picture of whatever you want, man. Okay, I would say, uh, You don't got to be an impulsive guy to do this.
Okay.
Mainly just logic, but logically we just want to kill the bugs for you. There's gonna be these times where people like him, they'll say that, but he has a— you guys ever seen the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland? Just big old smile. He's totally eyeballing me like a cat and a mouse. He doesn't want to talk to me. Like, the more you do this, the more you'll understand, like, when people are totally just messing with you. I just was like, cool. I'm like, actually was shocked he went in to go get his wife. I think he just went in to go get his phone. I'm gonna make sure we get something put in place because you haven't had a full summer here yet. It gets bad. So we get you set up as I go. So it would be good to like— Probably tell your wife about it. Yeah. If you want to show this to your wife, if she has questions, feel free to play messenger with me. I know you don't want my whole entourage coming in the house and doing a pitch with her laying in bed with a broken foot. So like, I want to make something work for you guys. I think it'd be really cool. So, hey, what's the dog's name?
Brownie.
Hey, Brownie, go on in, buddy. That's probably the closest that we've gotten. I said, you do see value in the service, right? Cool. So if the oh wow, oh my gosh, dude that ain't good. My back. You always need to send them in with something too. Rather than just go talk to your wife because then there's enough enough time to spark interest. But yeah, I mean this is this is more of a decent pitch that we've gotten off, right? Six and a half hours later. Okay, what questions does she have? So, I'm not sure if we're ready to do this at this time. So what is it mainly holding you back? Because I— It would be the numbers. The fact that we just moved in. Mortgage day today. Oh shoot. I want to help you because I think I wouldn't be sitting here with you if I didn't think you needed it. It's because in a new house, most important asset you'll ever have. Hey Corey, sales guy said he'd be willing to do the first one for $67. What do you say? If it's a yes, then great. If it's a no, I'm not going to be upset. You know what I mean? I hear you.
But yeah, thanks.
Oh yeah, I'll go see. Yeah, is it okay if I chill here? Yeah, bro, you the man. Thanks for being a good sport about this. Was it close? Yes, she said yes. We're going to hold up for a little bit. We tried, man. I appreciate your help, dude. Thanks for being a good sport, guys.
You too.
Yeah, we tried helping. Do you want my number?
Yeah.
Okay. Yeah. Okay. What's, um, I'll text you. What's your number, my friend? Sometimes you just got to keep running rounds with people and eventually you'll find something. You see this right here? This is a thing of the past. This thing called diesel. If you're a real truck owner, you just do electric. Okay. Hey, but real talk, since we're here with the BBC, I do these sales training camps where for 2 days I'll come in and visit you. If you're somewhat close to my house, I'll come drive in on the BBC, the Big Black Cybertruck. Okay? Oh boy, yeah. But listen, I'll come visit you for 2 days. I'll pour into your reps. I'll run a morning core and a night core each day, have them shadow me. They're going to be able to see me sell live and they're going to see how I manage area. If you guys want to talk about what it looks like to have me come in and train your reps for 2 days, The return on investment on this is insane because, I mean, guys, if you want to have a spark of energy in the beginning, the middle, or the end of your summer, have me come in. Guys, I'm crazy. Cracked out on caffeine most of the time. I'm high energy, but you let me get in front of your reps, I promise you they're going to love this job. So DM me the word company on Instagram if you want to talk about me come visit you for 2 days. In your market, and you might just get to see this beautiful thing right here. Guys, we're about to have a celebratory crack of 200 milligrams. Only rule is no one's allowed to drink the lawny. Are we all on the same page? I do the bugs, okay? So trucks in your guys' neighborhood today, mainly it's been ants and spiders. I know a lot of people don't like the chemicals out here. We do a kid and pet friendly approach. Do you have somebody yet or still not yet? No, we're not interested. We like our spiders. Have a blessed day. Okay. I talk more about the problem than I do the solution. Did you notice that?
Yeah.
That's like, that's the key to selling, right? Like, people buy because there's a problem, not because you do a cool granulation. Yeah. So, I mean, you guys got to see some good stuff. When people are saying, do you cover this or how long is it or how much is it again? You just wrap them up because they're sold. They just need to have clarity from you.
