Bagel in Birmingham | 1000 Account Pest Rep Sells Nothing

The video follows Austin (Speaker A) and his team—brother‑in‑law Rex, trainee Norman, and various prospects—as they conduct a door‑to‑door pest‑control sales day in Birmingham, Alabama. Austin frames the outing as a relationship‑focused sales experiment, emphasizing persistence, confidence‑building, and the Southern cultural value of personal connections. Throughout the day the crew demonstrates preparation rituals (visualization), on‑the‑spot coaching, scripted objection handling (e.g., the “cheeseburger and large fry” line), and attempts to overcome buyer hesitation by appealing to confidence and family dynamics. Rex shares his experience of starting his own pest‑control company, noting stress versus reward. Norman recounts a lengthy interaction where a prospect’s lack of confidence required extra reassurance. The team repeatedly tries to close a prospect named Jeremy, using motivational language, imagined future scenarios, and deadline pressure, but ultimately no sale is secured. At the end, Austin reflects on the day’s performance, noting the importance of self‑compassion, input‑focused effort, and the reality that not every door yields a deal, even after extensive effort.

Sweet home Alabama, where the skies are blue. What up everybody? I just pulled up to Birmingham, Alabama, where I'll be selling for Summit Pest Control, my brother-in-law Rex Brownwell's company. So today the whole focus is— we started, we started about 3:30. Our whole focus is to just finish the night super strong, go into prime time, and help out about 5 different people. Notice I said help out. In sales, the more focused you are on serving people, the more persistent you can be. And you'll see that all throughout my videos, that I am pleasantly persistent, and then people end up buying just because of the relationship in the end. Especially out here in the South. I've sold all across the United States, and in the South, people really value relationships. So pay attention to that as we go sell. I worked with Rex for years. He actually sold with me in his first year ever doing door-to-door. So I, I saw him when he was a rookie. And he's been plugged into Major Sales Training for years, right?
Oh yeah.
I want to know what it's like starting your own pest control company because Rex is doing his own pest company out here in Alabama.
Um, definitely more stress than I thought it would be, but it's super rewarding. I can see why a lot of people end up going the recruiting route. A lot less stress, probably a lot more money for the first few years. I've actually loved it so far. His training has helped me a ton. Before I started this year, it had been a couple years since I was on the doors. And I plugged into his training and all of those memories, objection handling came back and it's picked up quicker than I thought it would. So it's been incredible.
Yep.
So follow us. We're going to have a crazy 3 days here and then back home to Georgia. Go dogs! We won Alabama! In door-to-door sales, the hardest door of the day is the car door. So when you get to your neighborhood, what I like to do is close my eyes, set a timer for 2 minutes and completely relax and breathe and visualize how I want the day to go. So follow me and let's just sit and relax and just breathe for 2 minutes.
What is he doing?
He's beginning to believe. All right, timer's up. Should have a very calm mind. Visualize how you want your day to go. Let's go hit the doors now. 3 days. How y'all doing today?
Good, man, how are you?
Oh, we're doing well, man. Staying busy, that's for sure. 3-hour drive from Georgia today, so we'll keep this really quick. Uh, this is Rex, he's my brother-in-law. Um, we've got Norman in training, uh, basically doing some training stuff today. They got me mic'd up to kind of show kids how to do this job. Main thing we're dealing with spiders and ants, okay? You did not wake up wanting to talk to me today. It's pest control, it's nothing sexy. Don't expect you to be like super interested in it, but like when it comes to the bugs, you guys have somebody yet for this or not yet? I'll be honest with you. You're fine. This is my ex's place. I'm staying while she's out of town taking care of these knuckleheads.
She'd be the one you need to talk to.
You want to sign her up for pest control and you pay for it?
Yeah.
Okay. Hey, hey, take care. Let's hit this store right here. They just look like a buyer. They've got the car.
Buyer vibes.
Oh yeah.
Buyer, buyer, buyer.
Oh, we don't need anything. Thank you.
Hey.
Okay. I wish I had the same mentality now when I did my 1,000 accounts as I did now. Like, buckle up.
You know what? What?
We're in trouble.
Uh, hello? Knock knock, Buck Guy. One more time.
No, no.
No, no more times. How can I help you? Yes sir, yes sir, I'll take a cheeseburger and a large fry. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. So we're doing the, uh, the bug control out here. We've got the trucks out here today, uh, just been like ants and spiders, sir. Have y'all been dealing with more ants or the spiders? I think we're good, man. All right, all right. Do y'all have somebody yet or not yet for the, for like the bugs and everything? Yeah, I think we good, bro. Okay, take care now. I learned that from one of my coaching clients. He was, he was doing an AirPod shadow with me. He goes, yes sir, I'll have a cheeseburger and a large fry, and then went quiet. He told the guy, I'll have a cheeseburger and a large fry. Okay, I'm gonna try hitting this house one more time because we— they saw us and they know who we are. And then we're gonna go hit some new dev, and it's already— it's 5:48. We'll be at the new dev by 6:00 if I don't sell this one, and then I'll finish the night in there.
I ended up rolling around on my Segway with this couple for over 30 minutes answering countless questions and trying to help him have that confidence to to make the buying decision. With some people, no matter how much you dumb down the decision to make it sound really simple, they just feel like they need to call another company. With this guy, that was a mask for lack of confidence. This guy truly wasn't confident in his decision-making ability, even though his wife was begging him to sign up for the pest control when we sent them into the house to discuss with one another and did the good old Mormon Hail Mary. Check out the last episode to see what that is. But something unexpected happened when we sent them into the home. Check this out.
Here we go. Oh yeah, there we go. How's it going, brother? Did we get a call? Did somebody call me in?
Yeah, so listening or whatever.
I'm only buying if you— I'm only selling, so listen if you're buying.
But oh no, I'm not, I'm not listening. So what's up?
So Pet Butt Control, how I'm the owner of the company. Good to meet you, brother. Yeah, do you guys have somebody yet or not yet?
I don't know, I'm probably somewhere for— they come to the police department.
I'm soliciting, I want to sell you pest control.
Yeah, somebody call.
I was— I'm nice to everybody.
Yeah, did they— yeah, they just— we just said we got to— they said—
they said suspicious people.
I have somebody coming back to tell me yes or no, that's why we're chilling here.
Yeah, yeah, y'all—
I mean, are we cool?
I mean, y'all got business license and all that?
Oh yeah, we're licensed all over. I had to do all that myself, it was a pain in the butt.
Yeah, okay, say I was driving that, that white Toyota in the Tesla trucks.
Yeah, so I just bought the Tacoma. It is a business vehicle, but it's not wrapped yet, but I also don't advertise on it.
Yeah, I mean, it's not— I mean, y'all got business lines.
We're legal, we're across the board, and we're not—
yeah, yeah, we're like, y'all just had to come see.
Dude, we cool.
Yeah, y'all good.
I mean, just, just a bald guy riding around a Segway.
I'm a roller for that beard. He looks, he looks clean, man. I might need some tips.
Yeah, it's naturally grown, man.
I like it. Yeah, it's good.
So yeah, yeah, y'all good, man.
Cool. We'll keep it. Yeah, we're gonna be wrapping up here in a bit. There's somebody that's gonna tell me yes.
Yeah, so yeah, y'all good.
Say a prayer for him.
Yeah, you know.
Yeah, so y'all good, man. Yeah, they just had to come out here and see what was going on.
Thanks, dude. Hey, appreciate you, brother. You're the man. All right, brother.
All right, so I'm gonna have to sleep on it, but I want to get all the information.
You're kidding me.
And I will within the next couple days because I have to do something. I just— because I— we need to— we need to get rid of them.
It does matter. You need it. Like, and you said it like 10— you're killing me right now because I'm like, I need it. I've been back in advance. I know we need it. I need to do a call you by tomorrow. But it's like my wife wants me to do it. Well, you are the perfect candidate for walking back in and saying, what's Jenna, right? Jenna, I freaking did it. And Jenna is going to stand up. She's going to give you a round of applause. You're going to walk in and like, arms up. Background music, right? And you have— you're going to walk in a confident man. You walk in after telling me no, Jenna's going to be like, my man didn't call the shot. Hey, I'm talking poker. I'm just— I'm just trying to help you.
It's not— it's not a no. It's a— it's a not right.
But I'm telling you, you want to impress Jenna. Listen, you want to impress Jenna. You walk in there, you say, Jenna, I freaking did it, right? And she's going to be like, that's my man. I'm telling you. Dude, I think you call— I think you call it and you say, "Let's freaking do it." And then listen, I guarantee you Jenna's gonna be impressed. You're gonna be impressed because I'm gonna get rid of the ants.
Right, right.
You're gonna feel confident. We don't feel confident until we do it. I was gonna tell you earlier, you're not gonna know that you love it until you just freaking do it. I want to empower you. All I need from you— this is gonna be the most empowering thing you've freaking done in your life.
I'm getting—
dude, this is gonna be amazing. All I need from you— this is the most important— this, dude, bet on yourself, dude. Listen, confidence, just in— oh dude, just see yourself signing this iPad. I'm gonna invite you to do it in a minute. Let's close your eyes. You're signing it. Feel how good it feels to just call your shot. Jenna, we freaking did it. And dude, just feel that. And all I need from you, just your John Hancock.
When I, when I talked to a couple people. I, I, I, I will be confident wherever I do sign, but I, I—
just be confident now.
I, I can't in good conscience. I won't sleep as well at night cuz it'll, it'll just eat at me that I didn't, that I didn't hear about it from someone else. But I do, I, I know y'all got a good product and I know we probably wouldn't be disappointed, but again, I would just, I would sleep better at night.
I'm not going to sleep good at night at all.
Well, there's other people in the neighborhood who I promise have ants. We all do. This is wise of y'all to do this because these new construction, they're all crawling. I've owned a couple and it's just a matter of— and we're still just trying to get our feet under us with the baby.
But dude, you can do it.
I will. Within the next 2 days it will get done because this is a sign where she'll be like, Jeremy, you need to get something done. I don't care. It just needs to be done.
If it were up to your wife, would she have done it? Honestly, if you're up to your wife, she would have done it.
Um, probably, yeah. It's just— and, and that's, that's on me. That's poor of me as a husband.
But you don't got to be a poor husband.
I, I'm not. I'm not.
You can be the MVP, and the only thing holding you back is a John Hancock and a credit card.
I, I—
that's it.
At some point I will.
No, you could be Most Valuable Husband of the Year, dude. You could walk— you get a choice. You got to walk in Most Valuable— you get to walk in.
I'm gonna buy her dinner tonight, so that'll, that'll—
but dude, you can—
but I'm telling you, but Dinner's going to be better if you buy it. So you walk in, be like, babe, I want to think about it. And it's just going to be like, meh. Or you could walk in, babe, we did it. Dinner's going to taste 10 times better. Your whole night's going to be amazing. Listen, here's what I'm going to do. I'm just going to text you this thing. That way I remember. I don't have to retype in your information. Brother, you be real with me. Is there— what's the chances of me hearing back from you tomorrow by 2:00? Because that's when I need to know.
Low. I'll be at work. It'd probably be by tomorrow evening.
Okay, 5 o'clock. I probably won't be able to take phone calls until like 4 or so. Let me know by 5 and I can still swing it. That's the last, that's the only thing I'm gonna ask. Okay. By 5 o'clock. Okay. I'll still be able to get Jordan over here. Okay. Unless I just go pop off and sign up your whole neighborhood.
Well, if that's the case, then I gotta get in line.
You might have to. Okay.
It was great to meet you.
Dude, you're the man. Thank you. Okay, let's go back down this way.
Bro.
Bagel, right? No deals today. Started today at 4 o'clock and just came in from Georgia. I think in door-to-door sales, you have got to give yourself some mercy, right? I see too frequently in this job people that have a bagel and they feel like they need to, like, crucify themselves in order for them to, like, feel good about themselves. Like, They feel like that's what they have to do and they have to go to correlation the next day and they have to be mopey. That's not the case. Like, you're allowed to know that you did everything you could, that you focused on your inputs, and that you can still be proud of yourself. Today we had so much fun. I tried to talk a guy into buying just because he wasn't confident in himself. I still don't know what happened there, but I had some fun with the very last deals there that we tried to close. It just didn't fall in my favor, and that's okay. There were like 5 deals where I'm like, I don't know how that didn't go through. So when I finished a day like this, I'm just shocked. I'm like, how did that not work, right? And as we were coming back to the car, I'm like looking for deals, and we see a guy in his car. I try to pitch him, not interested, like shut down. Cool, we might find one more person on the way out, or Jeremy might come out, sack up, and tell me he wants to buy. But hey, tomorrow's a new day.
