Door to Door Miracle | You Reap What You Sow

Austin Maser pitches pest control to a homeowner named Sandy after a zero-sales day. He closes the deal by staying positive and persistent, then explains his coaching philosophy: focus on effort, not results, and trust the process.

I'm about to show you guys something way cool. So on my last episode, Bagel in Birmingham, I worked like all day. I couldn't sell a damn thing. And at the end of the day, like, I had a— my attitude at the end of a bagel is kind of like, well, I did everything I could. I'm shocked that I wasn't able to sell an account. Well, I woke up this morning and I get a phone call from, or text message from, this lady named Diane. And it's this lady that I talked to at the very end of my night from Bagel in Birmingham. Not in the episode, but I'll show you right here. Our truck's coming here tomorrow, and I have— I unfortunately I didn't fill up a slot yet.
That's all right, cool. We talked for bugs yet till I find out what kind I got.
So guess what? I know exactly ones you got.
Roaches.
You got the roaches? So I'm gonna talk— I want you guys to see the whole thing, but before we go watch the entire episode, I just want to talk about the mentality behind pushing to the very end. Guys, there's been days in my door-to-door career where I don't make a single deal until 8:30 PM and then finish the night with 3 deals. That stuff happens in door-to-door. So to give up at the end of the day is doing yourself a massive disservice. The people who do the best in door-to-door are the ones that can stay positive for the longest amount of time.
I'm sure I've got the brown kind. They come in for water, man.
That's not good if you got the roaches. So they have—
I haven't seen them yet.
You said yet. It's not a matter of if, but—
okay.
So look, I want to get you set up on more of a preventative service. That's it. Because what I don't want to have happen is until you— I don't want you to find out what bugs you got. I just want to keep them gone. I will tell you in this neighborhood, Sandy, ants and spiders, the two main things. So, you know, Jeremy and his wife Jenna, they were on their walk earlier today.
I really don't know anybody here other than that one right there.
The guy's jacked.
Oh, okay.
You're going to see a guy walking his baby. He looks like Thor.
Oh, okay.
That is Jeremy. Okay.
That's Jeremy.
And he's got a beard. Okay.
Okay.
So basically we're doing the bugs out here. They're already vacuuming up ants because it's gotten so bad. I don't want you to even get near to that point. I'm gonna give you the quick version because it's almost 8 o'clock, it's getting dark.
That's right.
I'll tell you what we do, how much it costs. Because you don't have a lot of bugs, it's going to be a lot more affordable. And assuming it makes sense, we get you scheduled for tomorrow, and I'll work on the schedule there. But basically the way it works, I'm going to guarantee everything for y'all. Can I hand you any flashlight here? So, uh, you're going to be getting a lot of ants here and a lot of spiders here.
Okay.
What am I going to do to make sure you never find out you have bugs? I'm going to granulate 30 feet out all the way around the house, Sandy, That granule is gonna seep 6 feet deep into the soil.
Okay.
Make sure nothing gets close. Have you ever had a company or would this be the first time ever?
Just my pest companies. I don't have any bugs at my house. I spray around the edges of the house, so.
Strike me as a DIY, you know, like.
Well, it works and I only have to do it a couple of times a year, so.
Cool thing with the DIY stuff, it's a contact kill, meaning the bug just dies on contact. The stuff that we'll do actually get on the bug, brings it back to the nest and knocks everything out. It's actually more safe for y'all too.
Okay.
Um, and last but not least, I think everybody deserves to have a good bug boy, right? This is the owner right here, Rex. Um, he's got me out here working. He's my brother-in-law.
Okay.
So I only get paid if I sign people up. So I'm gonna make sure it's a good deal for you. So we'll do the full yard for you and I don't want you having to do it yourself. Pest control isn't fun. If there were no bugs, you wouldn't be doing it. If anybody says they like doing it, they're just trying to get me off their porch. That's what it is. Um, so we'll do the full 6-foot spray at the base. That's gonna prevent any bugs from getting in through the cracks like I know they will in this neighborhood because it is new development. So we'll brush, we'll spray around the base, and then lastly I'm gonna take a brush pole, brush down everything, make sure the house looks nice, but that's gonna cover your ants, I'm sorry, your wasps and your spider webs.
Okay.
We're gonna put a product up there, Sandy, that way nothing comes back. Okay? Let's talk numbers now. No, I got good energy.
I'm not making a decision. Last time I made the decision to go get Mexican food and it was a bad decision. I believe in magic!
So you're okay with making bad decisions? You can make bad decisions. I mean, you made 2 last night. Let's just make 1 tonight. No, okay.
If I sign up for anything, I would say, okay, you can do the 1 treatment, but I'm not signing up for the monthly stuff.
Well, that wouldn't be a bad decision. We want to make 1 bad decision tonight.
I'm so sorry. I'm not gonna do it. I really told you from the very get-go how firm I was. You caught me. You should have caught me When you'd cut— if you'll catch me next week, you'll be a much happier person.
Why?
Because I get— because all day Sunday and all day Monday I'm sleeping.
So you're just grumpy right now?
No, I'm not. You don't look grumpy. Brain cells left, okay? They've been fried. I've been doing— I've been building this and moving.
This is the perfect time to get you to say yes. That's how we get you. That's how we get you.
Trust me, if you knew all I spent this today getting all this stuff installed today, that the happy pieces, the Closets by Design, the shutter people.
And I mean, what's another $69 to throw on top of that?
It's another $69, but I promise you, you come back another day and catch me. The prices are not bad. I don't—
so you like the price?
Things, yes. And I do know I'm going to have bugs. I know that y'all, they're stirring everything up. I'm well aware of that.
So I guess, where does it coming in the back? Where does it not— cuz you have the forest in the back.
I know.
So where does this not make sense? I think every— everything you're telling me—
the monthly fee, I don't want to pay.
You don't like the monthly one?
This guy, I'm not paying $69 a month for something that I'm not sure I want to do.
Yeah, but you're awesome.
I appreciate it. Thank you.
These young kids will sell faster than me because we got to get this guy selling with us.
He's working.
As long as I don't have to ride one of those. Um, You kind of have to. I'm sorry.
So do y'all have one of those too?
I do. He doesn't know how to ride one yet. He's learning. He's in training.
Oh, well, I come back tomorrow, the next day when I'm more alert.
But you'll say yes tomorrow?
I can't even walk. No, I may not say yes tomorrow. Okay.
All righty, y'all have a blessed night. Later. Just take note from this video. Wow, this was at the very end of the night, pitch black. I had sold nothing, and this is how I chose to finish the day. How are you finishing the day when it's 8:40 at night and you have no deals? Are you pushing through? Are you believing that that last person might be a deal? Or are you just walking back to your car sad, feeling bad for yourself, feeling like you're a victim, feeling like this job isn't for you? Guys, that's all bullshit. You can figure this job out as long as you remain positive, as long as you focus on inputs, as long as you remain coachable. If you're in door-to-door and you don't have any training or coaching, you need to hop on coaching now. In fact, I've got my sales training website with a collection over 100 videos of me selling deals in live time. Use code Maser20 for $20 off your first month. And if you don't have a coach, like, that's the training program that you need. Like, whether it's with me or somebody else, you need a training program, period. But you need a coach too. So if you're in your, you know, second year and you just are just trying to figure this thing out, I teach, I coach rookies too, but if you're like, man, I haven't really had the increase that I wanted to have, you need a coach. DM me on Instagram, message below here on the YouTube video, and I'd love to take you under my wing. But guys, mentality is a huge part of my coaching that I work with with my one-on-one clients because we work on how do I stay positive on a day where I have nothing? At 8:30 at night or 9 o'clock at night. And so I love that this— I love that I bagel'd that day because it actually shows you guys that no matter how good you are in this job, no one is immune to having a slow day. It happens to all of us. But how I chose to finish the day is what matters. How was my attitude? Take note in that video, uh, in the video that we just watched. How was my attitude, right? I finished the day and I was like, cool, I did everything I could. So if you're having a slow start in door-to-door, keep your head up. I always like to— when I have things like this happen where I wake up and a customer texts me, I say, yep, God threw me a bone today. In reality though, it's— I'm a huge faith guy, right? Like, God is really big in my door-to-door journey. I pray to him for help and You reap what you sow. That's a biblical lesson, right? You reap what you sow. If I had chosen to just get in the Cybertruck at the end of the night and not push, I would have never gotten to sow this seed. So stay positive, keep focusing on input-related goals. DM me for coaching one-on-one. I've got some roleplay group coach— I have some group call coaching that I'm doing this offseason. And then make sure you're on the training course. If you're not on the training course yet, you need to hop on it ASAP. See y'all soon.
