A pest-control sales trainer argues door-to-door reps must memorize their script word-for-word before they can improvise. Without that roadmap from knock to close, you can't adapt when customers push back. Master the script first, then freestyle.

Let's talk about the importance of learning the script and memorizing it word for word. If you don't have a roadmap of what needs to happen from the start of the sale to the presentation and to the close, there's no way that you're going to be able to go up to a door and freestyle it when you need to. The reality is, if you looked at any of the training videos, is that my pitch doesn't always sound the same every time, but I do have the roadmap in my head of what a perfectly scripted sale should sound like. So the script that I'll be providing to you, make sure you learn it word for word. No matter what pest control company you work for, if you're doing door-to-door, it's all the same. Just make sure you have that memorized. The way I like to compare the script is to the alphabet. If you don't learn the script, it would be like asking somebody to teach you how to write and read when without knowing your ABCs. You have to learn your ABCs before you can learn how to write. Make sure you learn your script, your ABCs, so that you can then go ahead and freestyle it when you need to with a customer. So let's go finish the day strong. Let's go.
