Official Recovery Partner: Hyperice

Matt Fitzgerald walks through Hyperice's recovery tools at DreamRun Camp, from NormaTec compression boots to the Hypervolt 2 massage gun. He argues that elite runners need recovery rituals as serious as their training, and that consistency matters more than which tool you use.

I know, I look ridiculous, but there's nothing funny about post-workout recovery. If you want to be the best runner you can be, you need to take your recovery as seriously as you take your training. That's why when I was setting up the Mind-Body Recovery Lounge here at DreamRun Camp, I reached out to Hyperice, who kindly hooked me up with some of their fine recovery products that you see here. You've probably seen NormaTec compression boots, but have you tried them? You should. They're scientifically proven to accelerate post-workout recovery, and they feel fantastic. My personal favorite is the Viper 3 vibrating foam roller. Use it before a run to wake up the muscles and after a run to release tight spots and prevent them from becoming niggles that impact your training. The Venom 2 uses a combination of compression and heat to relieve soreness and stiffness in the core. It's the first thing I recommend to DreamRunners who come out of the gym with a grimace on their face and a hand on the small of their back. Sore knees are probably the most common pain complaint among dream runners, and we've got something for that too. The Hyperice X provides contrast therapy, alternating heat and cold, which is the gold standard for treating issues like runner's knee. It's both more effective and more convenient than old-school methods like wrapping an ice bag around your knee. Our biggest crowd-pleaser is the Hypervolt 2, which uses percussion massage to relieve stiffness and tension in the muscles. People are always fighting over this little guy. Now, it wouldn't be a mind-body recovery lounge without something for the mind. This is Hyperice Core, a meditation ball that is really cool. You just sync it up to the app and it uses guided meditation and vibration to facilitate mindfulness, relaxation, and focus. Honestly, I sucked at meditation until Core came into my life. From a coach's perspective, what matters more than which specific recovery tools you use is that you make recovery a ritual, a routine part of your day. That's what we do here at DreamRun Camp, and you can do the same right at home.
