Ep39: My Big Announcement About My Business

A personal trainer announces they're dropping face-to-face sessions to focus full-time on business coaching. After three months with a new mentor, they doubled their coaching revenue and are moving clients to an online platform to cut overhead and spend more time on marketing and family.
Hello everyone. Hopefully you guys are having an epic day. I have some very exciting news to share with you all. Haven't really told many people apart from people that are super close to me. So I haven't really shared this on social media either, to be honest. So you guys are gonna be the first, first to hear it and yeah, a long time coming, to be honest. So before we get into it, welcome to another episode of the PT Profit, Leverage and lifestyle show. Getting some really good feedback as always from the episodes. So I actually had someone talk, talk to me the other day saying they binged a lot of the episodes back to back to back to back to back, which is, which is pretty cool. So, you know, again, I don't, I asked you guys to do this every week, but the only way this show grows is if you share it with other people. So share it on social media, share it with friends, family, other colleagues in the industry because one by one we are helping change the industry for the better. So without further ado, let's get into my announcement. So my announcement is I am stopping face to face personal training forever. So it's very exciting time for me in my business. For those who don't know my business coaching business, I've been working with a new mentor for the past, coming up to our third month and I've more than doubled my business coaching business during that time. And I actually posted a video today about the reason why most personal trainers stuck is because they just watch all these videos and don't take any action. So I was platinum for a while in the business coaching. I didn't have any new clients for a couple of months, which is fine. I was fine with it. I didn't need the income. But I was like, you know what, I really need to get serious about this. So I invested in a mentor and guess what? I did exactly what they said. I put money down and you know, when you, when you spend money, you pay more attention. So, and here we are, you know, just over two months later. I've more than doubled the business and I'm going to double it again in the next three months. And, and I'll get into the reasons why in a second, but one of the biggest ones is so I can fully focus on the business coaching, serving my clients at a higher level, spending more time growing the business coaching side of things rather than, yeah, the face to face pt. And it was a pretty, it was a pretty hard decision to be honest. And I'll go through the reasoning, the logic wise in a second. But it was, it was a pretty big decision because I've been training these same clients for years. Like I've been training some of them for five years. Like some of them have been my clients since the start. They've moved in between different locations that I've been at. So it's a, it was a pretty pretty, you know, pretty tough decision to make. But at the same time it was, it was a bit of a no brainer as well, to be honest. But emotionally it was, it was difficult. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to move all my clients to online. Now, not everyone will go online. And this is a quick tip for the people that do move their clients from face to face to online. Not everyone is going to follow you. And that's just part of the game. So, you know, because you got to remember people signed up for Face to Face pt, they don't sign up for online pt. So when you say you know you're going to move someone, then you know, don't expect everyone to be happy to do it. But you know, luckily my clients are pretty good and they're willing to give it a go. But let's get into the reasons why I'm actually doing this because there's some really good takeaways from this as well. So first thing, my best results that I've ever gotten in business is when I went all in. Now the Face To Face PC has been a safety net for me. For me not growing my business coaching side of things. It's been a safety net for a good 12 months or so. I haven't taken on a single new client for Face to face in over 12 months. I think I've maybe lost one client in that time. Since I started closing down my locations in my gym. That's just literally just been the safety net. The business coaching and the PT has just, you know, I've been pretty comfortable, but when I've got the best results, I go all in on the business. So it's the main thing I know if I want to grow my business to, you know, 20k plus per month, then I need to go all in on that business. The second thing, it allows me to spend more time working on the business. Instead of me doing 20 sessions or 25 sessions per week in a gym, plus the travel time, you know, 20 minutes each way for me, I could be spending that time doing more marketing, learning more skills, serving my clients better, all that type of stuff. So that's the second thing. And the third thing is to have more time with my family. So as you guys know most of the time pts do split shifts early mornings, late afternoons or sometimes evenings. So at the moment I've got it pretty good. Like I only do three days a week. Like Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings I'm up at 4:30, leaving by 5 for my first sessions at 5:30am Like I don't mind it that much but means Jess is at home with both kids on those mornings and you know, tough at times but you know she's a superstar and makes it, makes it work. But I like to be home for those mornings as well and spend the mornings with the, with the children. Luckily enough I get to pick the kids up every single day from daycare. They go to daycare four days a week which is great, which is, you know, which is pretty lucky in my situation. But you know I still have the one late late night once a week which is on Wednesday nights that I'm obviously home at like 7 7pm which is for me not ideal. But the most important part is when I get all this time back I still need to be utilizing that time. Not necessarily those exact times but but still utilizing time to work on the business for those extra, you know, 15 to 20 hours a week so I can continue to grow past that 20k per month. So they're the main three reasons why I decided to make that move. And I thought I would do this quick episode and it's not going to be a long episode today. It was more so just obviously tell you guys. But also the few tips in here for you is you need to go all in in your business. If you've got another part time job and you're doing PT on the side. How do you expect to make the transition to full time PT when you've got half your mind at a job and then half the mind on the business. Personally I think in my experience I have got the best results when going all in on the business. You know, it's how I went from 0 to 15k per week in income in 2 years. The stuff is unheard of. I had no other option. Quit my job at flight center, had no other option but to make it work. And this is exactly what I'm doing now with the business coaching. I have no doubt it's going to work out in my favor because I'm going all in. I'm trusting my gut and my instincts and my passion. And don't get me wrong, I still love training people but I get more fulfillment now out of helping People make more money, having more impact, having more freedom, more time with their family. My highest values are learning, family and what's the word? Lifestyle. Lifestyle. So this is going to help with all those types of all those type of things. So sorry, coaching. Coaching is the first one coaching family lifestyle. So I get to coach more. Coaching can be a variety of things, whether it's PT or business coaching. At the moment, coaching, helping people make more money is my highest priority right now. Family is my second highest priority. So I'm going to spend more time with my family and then lifestyle again, spend more time with the family. The lifestyle that business coaching allows me to do, not only financially but the amount of time required, it allows me that freedom and flexibility. That's why I'm doing that. If we take this back to a personal trainer side of things, it's the difference between doing fully booked face to face. And I've said this before, if I was to have my time again, I would do face to face plus online as a hybrid option. So I would only do a certain amount of hours in the gym and then the rest of it will be online. You shouldn't need to be working more than 20 hours a week as a face to face PT or PT in general, to be honest. So I hope, hope you guys get some insights into what I've been working on previously and I might actually go into how I actually made this or how I actually told the clients as well. Because that can be an uncomfortable situation and a lot of it just comes down to an open and honest conversation. And I just told my clients this is. And basically I just before I made the decision, I basically told all my clients, hey, if I was to do something, you know, for example, get an app and you know, do your training, programming online, nutrition and you know, do a few more things online, would you be open to trialing that type of stuff or would you be open to doing that? Before I made any decision I actually was like, okay, well would you even be open to this type of stuff? Most of them said yes. And that gave me a lot of confidence to be like, yep, let's go, let's make it happen. But the other thing as well is income wise, my business coaching income well and truly covers my expenses plus, plus more. So I don't necessarily need the income face to face pt it's more of a bonus which obviously made the decision a bit of a no brainer to be honest. But once I got the, I suppose a trial close, once I kind of asked them like, hey, Would you be open to doing something like that? And I said, oh, okay, cool. Well, let's just see how this goes. I'll set them all up on an app called Trainerize, as you guys would probably know. And essentially I decided, hey, look, I'm just going to get you to track the stuff that you do on your own to see if you actually like it. And I got some really good feedback from the clients. And I, and I basically said like a week later. And I said, hey, look, you know how I was talking about doing some online stuff in the future? Well, that's happening sooner rather than later, essentially is how I said it. And I said, look, I'm gonna stop doing Face to Face PT in a month and I'm gonna move everyone to an online version. It's going to be a bit cheaper in price for you, but you know, for me, in all honesty, it's not worth it for me to keep doing Face to Face with the rent that I'm paying. Okay? So that's a common theme for most personal trainers. The rent is the killer now for me, like, I paid 220 a week, so almost a thousand dollars a month to use the facility, train the same clients week in, week out for five years. So for me, it's not necessarily worth it. You know, I might make maybe 5 to 6k a month from face to face PC. Not that much. Well, for me, like it's. If I move everyone online, I'm probably going to make maybe 2k a month. So I'm losing 3k a month, but then I'm also saving 1k a month. So I'm only down 2k a month, but I get an extra 20 hours a week back or 15 hours a week back. So that's how I made the link. And I was like, well, look, the opportunity is there for me to, you know, work an extra 10 hours a week on business coaching and grow that to a substantial amount. The opportunity is there to double this business again if I have more time to work on it. So I said, you know, let's go all in. Let's make it happen so I won't ramble too much more. That's essentially how I, how I did it. I've still got a few more weeks left. I'm still doing Face to Face PT at the moment for a few more weeks. But yeah, I'm just enjoying the last couple of weeks of me doing Face to Face PT before I be fully online, which I know a lot of you guys have the full intention to do. But I'm also going through this process so I know what challenges are going to come up. And I'm doing this with my clients because I've got clients that have gone from face to face to online. But now I know exactly what it's like and you know, I can therefore help them go through those challenges myself. So, you know, if you're a face to face trainer and want to go online, then, you know, I can show you exactly how to do it. I'm doing it myself right now. Like, if you're looking to work with a mentor, find someone that has done what you want to do and just literally do exactly what they tell you to do and you'll get really good results. So that's it, team. Hope you enjoyed that little announcement. I'm super, super pumped and yeah, I'm super excited to get more time back though, all in on this business coaching side of things. Like, obviously I'm really enjoying the podcast, getting some really good feedback. So again, if you haven't like, liked it and shared it, please do so right now. And I appreciate you all have an awesome day.
