In this May 2017 YouTube video, Matthew Hussey (referred to as Matthew AI) responds to viewer reactions from his previous collaboration with Anna Akana, where they highlighted the gap between what men say and what they actually mean. He shares a selection of comments—ranging from praise to criticism—illustrating how audiences interpret his “manslation” of men’s statements. Hussey explains that the exaggerated, worst‑case translations were meant for humor, but acknowledges that both overly negative and overly optimistic readings can be harmful. He introduces the concept of “code phrases,” euphemistic ways people mask true intentions, and argues that understanding these phrases can reduce bitterness and foster empathy between the sexes. The video’s broader mission is to help women (and men) develop realistic, compassionate communication strategies, encouraging them to protect their energy while seeking genuinely good partners. Hussey then promotes a free chapter from his “How to Talk to Men” program—a flirting script guide—providing a link for viewers to download. Finally, he announces a limited‑edition t‑shirt giveaway (14 winners) as an incentive for downloading the free chapter, emphasizing that the shirts are not for sale and have personal significance to him.

Last week, I did a video with the lovely, the talented, Anna Akana. Oh, thank you. Where we talked about and highlighted the differences between what men say and what they really mean. Here's what you had to say. I think this is one of the best videos you've made, hands down. Dolly says, OMG, died laughing. This is literally 90% of men from online. Raquel says, I can't believe it. You made a video with Anna Akana. Lara Sati says, Anna made everything better. Smiley face. Funny video. Alright. And I agree with you, actually, but bit of a tone. Helena says, this video is for those who claim women never say what we mean. The truth is, most human beings are complicated and afraid to speak their thoughts, so we've come up with code phrases to get our messages across. Code phrases that most of the time other people don't get. So stop separating women from men because we are all complicated and weird and cranky as hell and a bit selfish but still some of us are worth it. I like that. I think that's true. I think we are complex. I think sometimes we fall into the stereotype of women are complex and men are simple and you're right. Code phrases is actually a good term for this because we say things in a euphemistic way. For example, in our video Jesse said, I'm just having fun right now, you know. Which sounds much better than, I'm just having sex with lots of people right now. I'm not saying one equals the other, but if a guy's having sex with lots of different people, he'd rather say, I'm just having fun than the alternative. There's also another kind of comment I wanna address. Elizabeth says, this makes me never want to date again. Alf says, you, so-called translations are absolutely the worst case interpretations possible. Mega Ducatron. Don't get me wrong, I laughed pretty hard about this one. But come on, Matthew, cut's a little slack. There are plenty of women that will take this one word for word. Okay, let's talk about this. I did have a fear about 24 hours before releasing this video that it would give people a sense of hopelessness, like, oh my God, guys are the worst. And I sort of understand that when it seems like we're portraying guys as saying every little thing that sounds negative all in one place out of context. That seems just damning for men. The truth is the manslation we did of all the things Jesse said are the worst interpretations of those things because we wanted to make you laugh. The bitter person will take everything somebody says and look at the worst interpretation of it. There's also an extreme on the other side that is equally dangerous. If you're the type of person that is so desperate to find love and you want romance so badly that you create the best possible interpretation of everything somebody says that can land you in a lot of trouble. And I see this all the time, by the way. I'm about realistic interpretations of something somebody says. And by the way, that's what this channel is all about. It's about understanding the sexes better so that we can actually react better to different situations. I'm not about using this to become more bitter or frustrated or hopeless. I think it makes us hopeful. My experience of women who understand men is that they're the most of men. They're the ones that have the most empathy. It's the people that understand nothing about men that have the most bitterness and resentment. Understanding the opposite sex breeds empathy. And here's what I want for people on this channel. I don't want you to be hopeless. I want you to use your understanding of the opposite sex and the things they say to have a kind and empathetic approach to them whilst protecting your own energy from the sometimes selfish but not always malicious intentions of that person. I know that there are amazing men out there, really good men. I have two brothers of my own. I think they're the greatest men on earth. I want women to be able to find these great men. If you're a guy watching this and you have a sister or a mother, you should be with me in wanting to help women avoid situations where someone doesn't have their best interests and instead find great, well-meaning people that do. And there was one final type of comment that came up an awful lot. Melissa says, I wish we had mans-letters in real life. Alice says, I need that book though. Crying emoji. Dee says, I'm taking you with me on my next date. Well, as sweet as your offer is, Dee, that may not be possible. But there is something that is possible and equally valuable. See, the book that Anna had in last week's video, Matthew's Manslation, has a secret. If I turn to the first page, this book actually contains my How to Talk to Men program. So it's real. Everything in this book are real scripts that you could say to a guy. And I wanted to do something for you today. I want to take a free chapter from this and gift it to you.
