In this video Matthew Hussey opens by referencing a scientific study that identified candlelit dinners and handwritten love notes as the two most romantic gestures, but he argues that true romance lies in unexpected, unglamorous actions that demonstrate deep understanding of a partner’s preferences. He presents a list of seven "unromantic" gestures that are actually highly romantic because they show effort, attentiveness, and care. The gestures include: (1) watching a terrible movie your partner wants to see, (2) surprising them with their favorite lunch at work, (3) drawing a warm bath for them and then leaving them to relax, (4) taking a loved‑one’s mother out to lunch, (5) washing her car in a playful, manly way, (6) providing thoughtful, hands‑on care during her menstrual period, and (7) learning exactly how she likes her tea. For each, Hussey explains why the act matters, how it signals that you know and respect the partner’s unique likes, and how it earns “huge brownie points.” He concludes that the most romantic moments are often the simplest, unglamorous ones that show you truly understand and support your partner, contrasting these with clichéd gestures like candlelit dinners. The video is aimed primarily at men, encouraging them to share the advice with other men in their lives.

A recent scientific study showed the two most romantic things you can do for your partner are a candlelit dinner and a handwritten love note. That was from a study shown in. Which journal was that? Which prestigious American scientific journal? Marie Claire. That was from Marie Claire. This study got me thinking that there are many cliched romantic things that we think of doing for each other. But I'm a big believer in the most romantic things being the things that are unexpectedly romantic. As such, I've compiled A list of 7 unromantic romantic things that you can do for your partner. By the way, ladies, I would suggest you send this video to the men in your life. If nothing else, send them to your brother or your uncle or someone who you know is out there either dating or with a girlfriend. And you know that this is just going to earn them huge brownie points. Number one, go see that terrible movie that your partner really wants to see. You know when they show you a trailer, oh, honey, come and watch this trailer. And they show you it, and they go, doesn't it look great? Shouldn't we see this? And you go, mm, yeah, no, that's really good. Book the tickets to go see that film you don't want to see. They're gonna know that you don't want to see it, but it's gonna mean so much to them that you took the initiative instead of having to be persuaded to go. Number two, listen carefully to wherever their favorite lunch spot is and whatever it is they enjoy having there. And then one day, surprise them at their office by taking them their favorite lunch so they don't have to go out, they don't have to do anything, especially you get extra points if they can't go to that spot because it's kind of too far away from their work and you brought it all the way to their office on that day. Number three, run them a nice warm bath, get some bubbles up in there, a few candles, put on their favorite little track or their peaceful music cd. Enya, Adele, Taylor Swift. What's the other one? Tori Amos. That's Jameson's. I didn't even know. I still don't know who that is. And then get the hell out. The whole point of this one is you're not there. Romantic things don't always involve the both of you. You can do something romantic and leave them to it. This one involves them relaxing their time, you giving them space. Number four, take a mom out to lunch, spend some quality time with the person they care about. Doesn't seem romantic because it's not with them. But it will go massively appreciated putting in that time and effort with someone that they do care about. And go and really treat them well and make it on you. You take the check and just show them a great time. Just because. Number five, wash her car. She could be busy, she could be out, she could still be asleep. But go outside, wash her car. You're a man. So it's like a nice manly thing to do. Make a little movie montage out of it. Get your shirt off, little Diet Coke. Rub your chest up against the windscreen. Wash it. Make it all clean for her. She's going to come out, she's going to see it. Oh, my God, this is so great. How lovely are you? This is such an amazing thing to do. Doesn't seem romantic. Is romantic. Number six. And this might just be the least romantic sounding of all seven. Now, there are going to be times when your lady has her lady pains, so to speak. It's gonna be that time of the month. She's gonna get her cramps. Yeah, I went there. I'm a guy. I'm okay with it. It's all good. What you're gonna do is not the normal thing that a guy does where he's like, oh, are you okay? Instead, you're gonna think of all the little things that you can do for her in that moment. Have like a ritual set up where it's, I'm gonna get you a heating pad. You bring it to her. I'm rub your back. I'm gonna put on your favorite Disney movie. Do all of those little things that just ambush her with kindness from every angle so that she feels like a princess in this moment where used to people, especially guys, just not knowing how to take care of her. Number seven, learn how to make her cup of tea. Everyone likes their stuff done differently, whatever that is. Everyone has their own particular way of doing things. Learn your partner's way of doing things. How do they like something made? How do they like to do something? Because if you really follow that and you let you know those little intricacies of the way they like things done now, it's gonna be so much more romantic intrinsically when you do those things. Because they go, oh, my God, they really care. They really pay attention to the way that I like it. And also just literally learn how to make that person's tea. Oh, do you want a cup of tea, Matt? Yeah, bloody love one. I haven't had one in ages. And then they make one and it's just terrible. So much milk. Not enough squeezes of the tea bag. Where am I living? Don't pour the milk into the tea. It's not half and half. Barely even let the milk see the tea. Not now, Jameson. Just let the milk. Jameson. A little bit of milk. Mostly tea. So that's it. Sometimes the most romantic things you can do are seemingly the most unromantic things that you could do. It's the little moments where you show that you really understand your partner and you're there for them in ways that no one else is. Anyone can throw on a candlelit dinner on a first date. Anyone can write a love note. Note. This is about things that show you know your partner and you care for them. Thank you very much, guys. I will see you soon. Yeah, of course. I want to see friends with no strings attached, benefits who do love and other drugs. And then the traveling pants put on some music they love you don't forgive me. This is supposed to be practical. This is the worst one we've ever done. Jameson, you know me so well. You're never the one to laugh. You're funny today. All right, that's true. I am funny today.
