Weird: Get Over Him AND Get Him Back? - Matthew Hussey, Get The Guy

Matthew Hussey uses a tennis analogy to explain why obsessing over one person keeps you stuck. Shift focus from that person to other opportunities, goals, and people, and you'll both move on and become someone they'll regret leaving.

Question. Do you have a guy right now that you are finding it really difficult to get over? It could be an ex that you really want back. It could be someone who's not giving you what you want, but you keep gravitating back towards them anyway. Or it could be a crush. Someone who hasn't even noticed you yet, but you can't get them out of your mind. Well, I want to show you in this video how to take your power back from this guy, get rid of that suffering, and start actually getting what you want. Now, in order to do this, I need you to imagine something with me. You're having a tennis lesson. You stand there next to your instructor as they watch you serve. You throw a ball into the air. You serve it, but it goes straight into the net. So you throw another ball up. You serve it, but the same thing happens. You go straight into the net. Then as you throw the next ball up, you focus on the net because the net is the problem. So you serve it, but because you're focused on it, that's exactly where the ball goes again. You do this four or five times before your instructor finally says, okay, stop. Look at the distance between the bottom of the net and the top of the net. Now look at the space between the top of the net and the sky. Which space is bigger? As soon as your instructor says this, you throw the next ball up in the air and you serve it over the net. Now, what changed? Did you suddenly become more skilled at tennis? Did your technique improve? No. What changed was your focus. And this is true in life. When you focus on your ex. When you focus on that guy, you can't get out of your mind. In that moment, you find yourself continuously drawn to a situation that results in a dead end. How many times is going out of your way to please your ex or please that guy actually worked? How many times does it work to spend all of your day focusing on him? Ruminating, suffering? Like in tennis, every time you hit the ball into the net, it stops the rally. Every time you focus on your ex, it halts progress in every other part of your life that makes you attractive. Now you can see the distance between the top of the net and the sky in a number of ways. You could see it as that's every other guy that's available to you in the world. That could be much more right than the person you're thinking about right now. Or it could be all of the other things that are important in life outside of this one guy. Your friends, your family, and the Relationships with those important people. Your career, your passions, your hobbies, the things you enjoy doing, the things you want to learn, the things you want to get better at, the experiences you want to have in life, the places you want to travel, and by the way, all these things that you do to be happy and to move your life forward. That's what makes it so that if you ever do communicate with your ex or come back into contact with him, he starts to question his own logic. It's you being powerful is you being high value. It's you showing that the train is leaving the station that makes someone question their original decision to break up or to not meet your needs, not give you what you want. The path to getting the guy you want or getting back the guy you want and the path to getting over that guy who's occupying your mental space are the same thing.
