In this spoken‑sketchnote video, Matt Ragland visually walks through Chapter 1 of Tim Ferriss’s Tribe of Mentors, presenting each of the eleven mentor‑question prompts that Ferriss sent to his Five‑Bullet‑Friday newsletter. He reads every question—ranging from “What book have you given most as a gift?” to “When you feel overwhelmed, what do you do?”—and briefly explains why Ferriss believes answering them helps build a world‑class network. Throughout, Ragland encourages viewers to pre‑order the book, linking it in the description, and highlights the value of using visual sketch‑notes to convey the material. The video is conversational, promotional, and aimed at motivating the audience to engage with the questions and the book.

Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferriss. The following is an excerpt from Chapter 1 that Tim sent out to his Five Bullet Friday newsletter list last week. Since I think of things really visually, I decided to make a quick sketch note of each of these questions. I hope you enjoy it. And I highly encourage you to pre-order Tribe of Mentors. I've linked to it in the description below. Have fun! Question 1: What is the book or books you've given most as a gift and why? Or what are the 1 to 3 books that have greatly influenced your life? Question 2: What purchase of $100 or less has most positively impacted your life in the last 6 months or in recent memory? My readers love specifics like brand and model, where you found it, etc. Question 3: How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success? Do you have a favorite failure of yours? Question 4: If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it, Metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions. What would it say and why? Could be a few words or a paragraph. If helpful, it can be someone else's quote. Are there any quotes you think of often or live your life by? Question 5: What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you've ever made? Could be an investment of money, time, energy, etc. Question 6: What is an unusual habit or absurd thing that you love? Q8: In the last 5 years, what new belief, behavior, or habit has most improved your life? Q8: What advice would you give to smart, driven college students about to enter the "real world"? What advice should they ignore? Q9: What are bad recommendations you hear in your profession or area of expertise? Q10: In the last 5 years, what have you become better at saying no to (distractions, invitations, etc.)? What new realizations and/or approaches helped? Any other tips? Question 11: When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do? If helpful, what questions do you ask yourself? In Chapter 1, Tim also breaks down each question and why he answers it. He takes a look at each and explains why they appear to work. You might ask, why should I care? I'm not an interviewer. And to that, Tim says his response is simple. If you want to build or foster a world-class network, you need to interact in a way that earns it. All of these things will help. Thanks so much for watching this quick sketch note of Tim Ferriss's Tribe of Mentors, Chapter 1: 11 Questions. Again, I encourage you to go preorder the book, which is linked in the description below. Thanks so much for watching. Have a great day.
