In this informal vlog, Matt Ragland shares a snapshot of his week at ConvertKit, covering several key themes. He announces his excitement for the upcoming ConvertKit conference and outlines ongoing work on churn reduction, mentioning that new ideas are already showing promising progress. A major focus of the discussion is the company's internal push for greater honesty and transparency—talking openly about roles, pay, responsibilities, goals, metrics, and accountability—as an inflection point for the company's culture. Matt reflects on the deeper question of why employees choose to work at ConvertKit, exploring personal purpose, learning, and value. He also explains his plan to produce regular short stand‑up vlogs that blend work updates (like creating Bonjoro welcome videos) with personal moments at home (his child Kaden, cat Momo) and upcoming travel to Boise. The vlog balances professional insights with casual, family‑centric content, emphasizing a desire for openness and connection with the audience.

What's up? Getting back to not daily, I wouldn't say daily, a little bit more of telling you what the days and what the weeks are like outside of a primary topic. Have the ConvertKit conference this week, really excited. So what we're still thinking about a lot with ConvertKit is how can we do better with churn reduction? I have a couple of ideas that I'm gonna share with you that we're working on that have shown some really good, shown some really good progress. A couple of things totally necessary necessary for any conference, just tiny subtle things, but gum and cough drops. Want to be able to take care of that. I've already got a little bit of a sore throat, so gonna be taking care of business. So you know, high likelihood of the phone falling. I'm in a parking lot. So what's been happening with ConvertKit? There have been some very interesting things happening with ConvertKit. The primary one is that we're having a lot of discussions internally as a team of how honest do we feel about just talking with each other. So talking about our roles, talking about our pay, talking about our responsibilities, talking about our goals, our metrics, how we hold each other accountable. All of those things are up for play, up for grabs right now. It's a really interesting— I think we're going to look back at this and see this as an inflection point for our culture and for our company. So it's a really, really fun thing. Told you. The main question that has been posed to us that we're going to be talking about today is, why do you even work at ConvertKit? We've had a bunch of people leave, and it's something that I always try and think about, but it's something that has become a lot more of a focal point for the company. Just think about why do people work here? What's important? What are— what's our why? Not just as a company, we talk about that a lot, but what's What's our why individually as people who are making those contributions to the company? Getting ready to drive for real now, so— don't vlog and drive. Alright, been home, had a bunch of meetings. Monday is kind of meeting day, and now I'm back here at my Target alley to do some more Bonjoro's welcome videos because, you know, this is a nice backdrop right here. It's just hoping that nothing dangerous comes down this way. Before I jump back into the bonjouras though, I want to wrap this up. I also want to be doing a couple of these kind of stand-up mini vlogs every single week just to give you more context on this is what I'm thinking about, this is what I'm going through, this is what I'm working on. Instead of the big topics always being the primary ones, also having a smaller this is just what I'm working on, this is what I'm thinking about. What we talked about today with ConvertKit is we're We're just trying to get more and more specific and focused with each other on how we're communicating, the things that we're struggling with or might be frustrated with, and the overall theme of why do you work at ConvertKit? Like, what is it, what does it do for you? What are you learning here? So that's what we talked a lot about. I hope that we're gonna be able to share more. We want to be a really transparent company, and this is, again, I think this is a big inflection point for us as a company, and I'd I'd really like to share more of it with you. But it's not just my story to share. So I'm going to share as much of it as I can with you from my perspective. But again, want to be empathetic to everyone else's privacy as well. So back to Bontorres. Later. Made it home. Kaden, say hi. You haven't been on the vlog in a while. Hi. Oh, I just dropped— Uh-oh, what'd you drop? Dropped a goldfish. A vegetable oil-free goldfish. There's a cat at this house that we try and come say hi to. Hi, Momo. Hi, Momo. Do you see it? Where'd it go? Phone is totally gonna die at any second. That's what we're working on. That's what we're talking about. Fly to Boise on Thursday. Little Boise vlog. Vlog. Peace. Set, go! Oh. Go!
