Film, Edit, Publish, Document: How I Made A Vlog on My Lunch Break

Matt Ragland films and edits a video during his 45-minute lunch break using a GorillaPod and iMovie. He covers a 4W question grid for better client communication, drawn from mistakes on a recent project. The editing alone will take 30 to 60 minutes, well past his deadline.

Everyone, good afternoon. Hope you're having a great day today. I'm gonna be doing a little bit of a test during my lunch break. I'm gonna be seeing if I can shoot and edit this week's video in the next 45 minutes. So come along with me, let's see if I can be successful with this. So the topic of this week's vlog is gonna be communicating with clients, how I do that at the beginning, and some mistakes that I made with my last client interaction that kind of led to things not going— well, just the project not continuing. So gonna talk about that.
Here we go.
Okay, doing pretty good so far.
I'm about 15 minutes in.
In and just went over this 4W question grid that I talked about. You're going to be able to see it in the vlog when it comes out, hopefully in 30-ish minutes. Go ahead and wrap this up and also share some other takeaways. So I have like some B-roll to share on the video as well. So it's not just talking head me like describing something, you're actually going to be able to see it. I'm gonna go down and get that notebook.
Recording with the primary camera setup, not right there, but you know, like on the GorillaPod again. And what I'll do is I'll cut out and in some of the shots that I did just of the notebook right here and finish that way. 20, 25 minutes maybe to go ahead and finish shooting, just one more shot left, and then do the editing and get it shipped.
All right, I have everything finished now in terms of shooting. I only have about 10 minutes to edit, and to be honest, that's probably not going to happen. But let's go ahead and get everything set up and uploaded into the computer, into iMovie, and let's see what we can just get done.
All right, is that my camera has been on like red low battery this entire time.
So glad I was able to get through it all. Okay, so I got everything done except most of the editing. I got a little bit of editing done, but that's probably going to take another 30 minutes. So it's good to know that even for a 5-minute video, still probably going to take an hour, hour and a half if I'm doing any kind of editing at all. Right now I have to get back to my main work and do a workshop for new customers of ConvertKit. So I'll check back in with you shortly and let you know when everything is ready and posted. Okay, here it goes.
