In this solo vlog, Matt Ragland shares a sketchnote he created of a Jason Fried post titled “What is someone going to stop doing when they start using your product?” He highlights the importance of product thinking that focuses on the behaviors users must abandon, not just the new actions they will take. Matt applies this framework to ConvertKit, discussing how new users need to stop using a competitor’s tool and also let go of entrenched habits and mental models around email automation. He emphasizes the need for seamless transitions and tools that help users overcome these old patterns. Throughout the video, Matt also recommends Fried’s book Rework as a formative read, shows a time‑lapse of his sketchnote creation, invites viewers to comment on how their own products can stop user behaviors, and teases a future video series covering the book. The tone is conversational and enthusiastic, aiming to spark community discussion and provide actionable product‑adoption insights.

Hey, what's up everyone? Happy Monday! It's Matt, and I did a sketchnote over the weekend that I wanted to share with you. It was from Jason Fried, who runs Basecamp and 37signals, and he wrote one of my favorite business books ever. You should check it out. It's called Rework. It's 100% easy, consumable, just incredible stuff to read, and really did— really was formative for me. So I loved it. Definitely check it out. The post that I sketched over the weekend was one that he named, "What is someone going to stop doing when they start using your product?" And I think that's overlooked a lot because they're like, "Oh, well, they'll start using my thing," and we don't always think about what they have to stop doing, what we want them to stop doing, whether that's rather something that's rather obvious, like, "Oh, well, they would stop using our competitor's product." It made me think a lot with, like, ConvertKit. Let me show you this. First. So there are the sketchnotes, because what I, what I was really thinking about a lot as, as we look at this is, you know, what's our thing with ConvertKit? And, you know, people are gonna have to stop using a competitor. But the other thing is that they're gonna have to start thinking a lot about some new things that they're gonna have to start doing. It's not just they have to like almost stop thinking thinking in an old way. Like the way that they used to think about like email and automations and what it could do and how it should look, we're totally changing that for them. And so it's not just that they gotta start using ConvertKit, they got to, they have to stop using a competitor. They also have to stop like some of the, a lot of the momentum that they had created over a number of years perhaps of using another product. And maybe they're frustrated and that's a little bit easier, but it's important to think about not just like the excitement of, yeah, they're gonna start using my thing, but what are you having to help them overcome and how seamless can you make the transition? Like, how, how are you gonna help them scale that wall? So that's something that I'd be thinking about. I'd love to see your comments below, things that you're thinking about. Maybe you have a product, maybe you have anything that you're doing, anything with your work, what can you help stop people from doing? And are you giving them the tools to be able to do that? So one more look at this. I'm going to show you the time-lapse here right now. One last thing. This is, this is almost done. I'm really excited. It's been a little over a year. I'm gonna do a video of just going through, just going through this book, but oh man, look at all that. It's a lot of information. It's a lot of talks. This is great. Can't wait to share it with you. Thanks for watching. Give it a like, give it a subscribe. Appreciate you.
