What's Your "Why"?

Matt Ragland explains why ConvertKit now asks new users about their purpose for blogging. His own why: generate enough income from his blog, YouTube, and courses to replace part of his wife's income while sharing ideas with others.

Hey, good afternoon everyone and welcome. Welcome to the vlog. I can't even open doors anymore. So welcome to my new slightly temporary city, Chattanooga. Okay, not the best. See, this looks much better. Alright, so I'm just at a coworking space up here for the day and I've really been enjoying myself. It's great space. It's very bright. Lots of windows. I love all of those things. It's also really close to a place that— gonna see if they're still open. It's called Velo Coffee Roasters. Let's check it out. So I'm going to be trying that on a different day apparently. Something that I want to talk about that I've been thinking about a lot ever since our team retreat a couple of weeks ago is why do you do the the things that you do. And I'm not just talking about like, oh, why do you go to work? I mean, in a way, like, why? Why does it matter for you? Does it resonate for you? And I would encourage you to think about that a lot. For ConvertKit, our why is that we want to exist to help bloggers earn a living doing independent work that they love and selling products, courses, all kinds of things that help them get to that point. And we're still nailing down the language on that. Don't quote me. But essentially, that's what we want to do. That's our passion. That's the reason. That's why ConvertKit exists. So I personally was so intrigued by it. The thing that I work on the most at ConvertKit is onboarding. Onboarding and customer success. So we put together an email that asked new customers right when they come into ConvertKit, like, why are you doing this? Why do you want to blog? What is, what is the purpose behind it? And we've already started getting responses back. And I just, I love it. I love hearing why people want to do the things that they want to do. Like, what's the end goal? Hold on, quick, quick break. You gotta, you gotta see this real quick. You too could own your very own giant stained glass Jesus. Even for me, like, outside of ConvertKit, I still blog and I have the YouTube channel and I do sketchnotes and I have courses. And why do I do those things? For me, I want it to earn enough money down the road that it can replace part of my wife's income. Like, that's my why. Of course, I want to communicate and I want to share my ideas with the world. When it comes down to it, like, I want to end up making enough extra money off of that so that my wife doesn't have to work full-time. Like, that's my why behind vlogging. What is with all the murals? So that's what I'd love to hear from you in the comments. Please write down, let me know why you do the things that you do, and especially if you have a side hustle. Check out my last video on kind of creating that side hustle, the why, what, the why, how, and what of just your purpose behind that. I'd love to hear from you and just hear what your why is for anything that's going on in your life. So, appreciate you watching. Please go ahead and subscribe. Just click that little red button and you'll keep getting these videos. Video every day for the month of February and then we'll go from there. Okay? Alright, thanks so much. Take care. Talk to you tomorrow. Bye. Okay, quick thing. I got a little dream car action. Look at that. So pretty. It's in really good condition. Love it. Alright, so here's for the last time one more clip because I just walked past this delicious smelling bakery here in Chattanooga. Knead Love. What a great name. And let me show you what I picked up half off. Cinnamon raisin bagel, everything bagel, apple galette pastry, and ginger molasses cookie. Alright, so for the third time, thanks for watching, and check out the video tomorrow, and go ahead and subscribe. Thanks everyone, bye.
