What Do Insurance Companies Care About? Patients Or Profits?
26 Oct 2024 · 4 min
Matthew Gologli describes how insurance companies slash physician payments and issue massive clawbacks, including a $2.5 million case and a UnitedHealthcare cut that made a doctor stop offering a procedure entirely. He argues insurers prioritize profit over patient care and is building Mavericks to free 100,000 doctors from insurance dependence by 2033.

Everybody knows insurance is a complete and utter joke when it comes to how they treat the doctor. Recently, I was at an event in Las Vegas, orthopedic event. And, you know, we talk a lot to the doctors about really the challenges that are going on with regards to the world of insurance. And, you know, if you've watched my videos or watched my podcast, it's no joke. And I always tell you, when was the last time that an insurance reimbursement went up? Never goes up. It always goes down. And in fact, many times they just claw the money back. I have a client of mine, we've helped him navigate a $2.5 million clawback. Hey, I'm Matthew Gologli, and I'm a Maverick. Well, what is a Maverick? A Maverick goes against the grain. We find our own way. And if you're sick and tired of being pushed around by the insurance companies, come join us. We'll show you the way out. And you'll love medicine again. That the insurance company approved and guided him through how to code it. And then one day decided that, you know, hey, you've made too much money, so we're gonna claw back $2.5 million. We helped guide him through all of that and how to manage all of that and how to, and how to really get it so that's down to a manageable number. But the interesting thing happened when I was in Las Vegas recently at one of the events, and a doctor pulled up his phone, he pulled up his email, he was furious. What he said, this has probably happened to a lot of you, is good old UnitedHealthcare sent the letter. Now, what I find is that a lot of people get this letter from UnitedHealthcare, and the letter from UnitedHealthcare basically said, for this procedure, what we used to pay you was, say, whatever, $100, okay? And effective immediately, We're going to cut your reimbursement by 20%. Now, this was a major procedure that he does on a regular basis. And as he said, it was something that really kind of just generated a lot of cash for him. And he said that cut of 20% basically took that procedure that was beneficial to his patients. And I'm not going to go into what the procedure was. It's not really relevant at this time, but that was once beneficial to the patients. He goes, I'm no longer going to offer it. He said, because now I'm going to lose money on it. And he said, I have no recourse. I have no capability to call them and say fight this. Basically, the letter said, we're going to cut this 20%. We're going to do it immediately. And there's nothing you can do about it. And that got me to thinking, imagine if you ran your business this way, right? Imagine if you just ran your business and you treated your customers like utter complete dog crap. I mean, that's what the insurance companies do is they treat you like utter dog crap. They don't care about you. They don't care about your business. They don't even care about your patient care. They care about one thing, and that's their profits. This is why we're so passionate here at Mavericks about helping you get free from insurance, because there's no future in it. There's zero future at all in the world of insurance. So what I like to do is I like to tell people, let me show you how to tell UnitedHealthcare to go suck it. If you're sick and tired of getting screwed by your insurance companies and you want to find a way out, why don't you give us a call? Here at Mavericks, we have one mission. And one mission only, and that is to give you freedom from insurance. We're going to help break 100,000 doctors worldwide from the tyranny of healthcare, of health insurance by the end of 2033. We've already helped quite a few. In fact, we're going to be releasing an interview here soon in October. One of our doctors that we got him free, and now today his practice—he's able to finally treat his patients the way he wants. All right, everybody, have a great night.
