How to Get A Dewy Skin Finish

Makeup artist Megan Vigil shows how to build a dewy, glass-like finish using Jane Iredale Glow Time mixed with Caudalie Premier Cru Oil, light tapping motions, and glycerin eye repair oil. She focuses on pressing product into skin rather than buffing it out, and keeps the under-eye area plump before concealer.

What now? Um, I guess I'll do the skin, which is my favorite part. I like to use Jane Iredale's Glow Time. The first time I used this, I thought, oh, it's a BB cream, it's not gonna be so intense, thinking it was like a moisturizer, like Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer or something. And I put it on, and I put a lot on. Oh shit! Oh no! It's over. So what I usually do— see, you just see the coverage on that? And what it has in it is, um, I forgot what it's called, but it works with the amino acids in your skin similar to like suntan lotion, but it's not DHA. And it turns to your skin tone. You can already see it doing it. I also like to mix it with the Caudalie Premier Cru. Oil. Because I want it to be juicy. Really juicy. I want my skin to just look like glass. And when you're older— I'm 37— when you're older— and this is how I put my makeup on. Little tapotement. Bring some blood flow to the face. I'll use a Beautyblender sometimes, but again, lazy. Lazy. I don't even— I like doing my makeup. I try not to wipe so much. I'm not a wiper. Especially if you have dry skin, and it just— Catches onto some of those flakes. Gross! It's like, hi, dead skin. I could sit here and do this all day, but I ain't got time for that. So I start to press. Like I imagine this is a paint roller. Get it all blended in. Hit it in. Hit it in. Really focus on the nose because I get red in the nose because I drank a lot last night. So one of my beauty courses, uh, I have a beauty course. It's on expertrating.com. You just Google Megan Vigil, V-I-G-I-L, on expertrating.com, and you can find my, like, a beauty course. It has a book that I wrote. It has all like 70 videos with me at the helm where I'm just doing basically this but more professional, no cussing. And, um, this girl took my course She contacted me, and she lives in Queens. I'm in Jersey right now. I've been in New York for a couple of months, just hanging out with my friend Courtney in her apartment. And I live in LA, but I'm in New York. So I'm like, hey, I'm in New York right now. And she booked a lesson with me, a big old makeup lesson. I went to Queens, and we spent like 4 hours going over everything, but a lot about the business and building your business, things like that. And she's like, I want to take a drink. She was this beautiful Colombian girl, 21, just starting to get into makeup. We took a drink, we took 5 drinks, and they were all vodka. So all I'm gonna say is cover up the red. And when you're doing a client, you wanna get in there. 'Cause if that camera's from below and they're a bride and then they just have these red noses, ain't cute. Ain't cute. Then I go in with my glycerin eye repair oil. I already have an eye cream on, But when you're 37 and you do drugs, you really gotta make sure your skincare is making you look like a, you know, pure as the virgin snow. So put a little bit of this on right before my eye cream. What this does, it's gonna plump and it's an oil. Again, I wanna keep everything looking juicy and plump because I have these very, I call them my ball sacks, they're very ball sacky. Pesticular. So I try to keep them looking like juicy balls so they look smooth as eggs. And immediately go in with my— I like the Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer. This one's like L11. A lot of people don't like it because it's really drying, and it's like, like a gel liner. Once it dries, it locks. So You could use this over the oil, and it makes it just perfect. You'll find that the setting that you have to do is minimal. See how I get— I gotta get up into these dark areas. Always remember, dark pushes in, light brings out, and color rounds an area. So we'll get into that theory more. That's a Eugenia Weston lesson. So just tap— I tap everything. I really like using my fingers because it melts the makeup. You see where I'm putting it? I'm going way down here because I want to bring forth this beautiful bone structure that I have. I want to look Scandinavian, bitches. So what am I doing in New York? I'm a writer. I write for beauty brands. I write their blogs. I write their websites. And I can do it from anywhere in the world. And my friend said, come, come live with me for a couple months. So you have to know, guys, I'm awesome. Somebody wants me to come and live in their house for free for 2 months. Just, it's very validating.
