He shares a simple daily habit: each morning, define what "winning the day" looks like and focus only on tasks that both matter and are within your control, ignoring other noise.

Hi, I'm Michael Erath. Today I'd like to talk to you about focus. This little tip came to me from a book I read by an author named Carl Richards. Especially now with the coronavirus disruption. There's lots of noise. There are lots of things to distract us. And it's very critical that as leaders, we must be able to cut through the noise and focus. So here's a daily habit I'd like you to think about every morning. Think about what it's going to look like for you to win that day. Just breaking it down, taking it one day at a time. What does winning the day look like as you approach that? You're going to find that there are things that matter, but which you have no control over. There are also going to be things that you can control, but that don't really matter. And so all of that is just the noise. What's important as a leader is for you to be successful, for you to, in fact, win the day. You've got to stay laser focused. Only in the space that overlaps these two circles. The things that truly both matter and that you can control. Anything else is simply noise. So get clear on what winning the day looks like. Think about that every day. Get focused and go win it. I hope this helps.
