This YouTube video, presented by Michael Evans, offers tactical marketing advice for authors. Chunk 1 covers the fourth tactic: social listening — monitoring and engaging with reader conversations online, thanking positive commenters, encouraging shares, and using feedback to reinforce or adjust marketing. Michael cites Matt Denman (author of Dungeon Carla Crawl) as an example of strong community engagement.

Now, the fourth tactic I want to give you is social listening. Social listening is when you're really in tune with what your readers are saying about your books, how you're being betrayed on social media, and actually participating in the conversation. Now, this doesn't necessarily mean commenting on negative things, but it does mean thanking readers who are commenting positively. It does mean encouraging them to share more because people love when you reward them. It does mean being in tune with if there's something going wrong, if a lot of people are saying something specific about your books that could be assigned to lean into it, if it's something that's working in your marketing or something to maybe change or adjust. An author who's great at this has built an amazing community is Matt Deniman, the author of Dungeon Carla Crawl in an insanely well selling series. He's an incredible person and he's just so good at being in touch with his readers. The different reviews they're sharing, different things they're saying online and just being a part of the conversation.
