Transcript excerpt from a YouTube video (creator: Mike Andes) discussing extreme heat on outdoor crews and the operational/leadership challenges it causes. Speakers describe workers quitting or being incapacitated by >100°F conditions, logistical issues (broken AC in a truck), and the need for formal training, systems, and communication to lead larger teams effectively.
If they've been working inside and come out in this heat right now, they're going to either croak or they're just going to quit.
Exactly. So I.
Need somebody that's going to.
Be, they know what they're getting. So I've got another truck. We're not using it right now, the AC croak, so I don't want to pity anybody in it. I was actually using it just so the guys wouldn't have to use it.
Leading by example will take you so far, but when you get so many team members they don't see you all the time, they don't see you working hard. So it's sometimes tough to actually lead by example effectively. And you do have to actually lead by training people correctly, having systems in place, making sure you have team chats, things like that.
Even if they're okay. If they've worked in lawn care five years ago, that was five years ago.
