A short transcript excerpt from the YouTube video '2 Shops, 1 Truck, & Zoning Nightmare for This Lawn Biz' (Mike Andes, May 17, 2025). The speakers discuss practical operational challenges for a lawn business: paying $825/month to rent a ~70x70 shipping-container shop on a dirt lot, using space that is not zoned for business, having two separate start sites that feel ‘janky’ for employees, and managing charging and storage for an electric truck (noted as having a 90 kWh battery) and smaller battery-powered tools.
Questions this video answers
$825 per month.
About 70 by 70 (feet).
No — it's not zoned for business use.
90 kilowatt-hours (kWh).
How much do you pay for rent at the shop?
825 right now for about a 70 by 70. It's just a shipping container on a dirt lot of a bigger landscaping company.
It just starts to feel janky for the employees when there's two different start sites. The one that you currently have over there at the shop space is at a different landscaping company's property. Here's your house.
It's not zoned for business use, but we have one farmer over there who you know, is already making a ruckus and has a couple tractors and machines. So do I ask permission or you know, for forgiveness? Right.
Your only spoon that locations because you can charge the truck here.
It's got a 90 kilowatt hour battery in it. So for all of our smaller like ego batteries and things, for the blowers, weed whackers in the consumer grade mowers, we can plug them right in right there.
Can we charge that truck there any way, shape or form? Like can we put a inverter there or anything? It's not going to work. No, but that's closer to your service area, right? It is. Well, you could just have like a scaled down version of all the equipment on the trucks here. And that's like your equipment depot. It's like, hey, if you guys are out throughout the day or you need more batteries or you need to go, go pick up one of the battery luggage things that's all over there. But then they start here. You have meetings, you're like, this is a good environment, I feel like for the team versus being in someone else's yard. It's also very appealing for them to just like fail.
