$700 JOB ACCEPTED | $300k Business in 30 Days (10)

Day 10 of a documented 30-day challenge by Mike Andes to build a $300,000 lawn care business starting with no employees, equipment, or customers. The immediate goal for the Augusta location is to reach $1,500 per day before handing operations to a general manager. This chunk shows a day-of selling strategy focused on estimating and closing project work (property cleanups, mulch installs, ivy removal, weed fabric, edging, selective planting), a 7-line-item estimate for one client, and a closed $700 job sourced from an every-door direct mail flyer. Operational details include spraying ivy and letting it die before removal, using 5 yards of mulch for a cleanup/mulch job, caution around low driveway cables for dump trailer use, a referral partner (Lindsey at Fine Turf) for chemical treatments, and a noted $500–$600 spend on the direct-mail campaign.

I'm traveling 3,000 miles across the country to build a $300,000 lawn care business in just 30 days. This Augusta lawn care location needs to be making $1,500 per day before I can hand it off to a general manager and go back home. I'm starting with no employees, no equipment, and no customers to prove that systems build great businesses.
Today is day 10. The strategy today, sell more projects. So we're gonna go do some estimates. We're gonna bring you along. We're gonna walk through the whole process of doing a property cleanup, mulch, install, whatever project they want. It's okay now, but this is gonna be the goal today, is to sell these projects today for next week. So we sell both of these projects. We probably will fill the entire week next week with work. Let's go.
All right, so we're out here at Matt's house, and there's quite a bit going on here. So let me walk you through it. Cool. They said you kind of had a little bit of a project going on. Yeah, I got your flyer. Sweet senior truck. Okay, cool.
So longer term, we want to get rid of this, but for now, thinking just all lawn or that's actually.
They said you guys don't do treatment, like for clover issues. You don't, but I can put in who we use all the time. They're great. Shout out to Lindsey from Fine Turf. He's the guy that we refer all of our chemical treatments and applications too. And he reached out to my regional manager, Chuck, and gave us a much better recommendation for dumping and also a better dealer. So thank you, Lindsey. Shout out to you guys. Great work. The first line item is going to be the front yard flower beds. And that is going to include everything in front of the house. Pulling in the weeds, putting in mulch, removing 1, 2, 2, 3 bushes on the left on the right hand side, and then these two bushes on the left hand or those are the right hand side. These are two on the left hand side. This tree we're going to cut at exactly five feet. And they know it's going to look bad, but they just don't want that big thing there. So we'll cut it off around five feet. And then again, mulch and pool weeds. There's gonna be a secondary option for planting in the front yard bed that we will meet the client at the nursery. But at that time, he's going to want just a few little bushes out front here that are very sun loving and. But the reason they gotta go cheap is because they're gonna tear this thing out eventually. They don't want it here in the long term. So if we're gonna do some plants to be up front, they need to be low maintenance, loving the sun and cheap. But for now, pull the weeds, install mulch.
We'll do the same thing up in that flower bed. He never mentioned it, but it's so small. And then this, this one and this one will do all as part of the front yard flower beds. Then we go on the right side of the house. So item number one is the front yard flower beds. Item number two is gonna be planting for the front yard flower beds. Item number three is gonna be the right hand side of the house and that's gonna be tearing out all of this ivy. And really what we're going to do is knock it all down, spray it so that it gets to the roots, and then we will put down fabric all in here. We'll put weed fabric all around the AC units, all through the back fence.
And then install mulch. So again, this is line, line item number three. That is the right side of the house, this entire area, Weed, fabric and mulch. We'll spray it before making sure that dry and then put this back in. Just be careful of these trees. If we're spraying, obviously we'll stay away from the fence. We'll spray everything, let it dry, put down the fabric, and then we will put down mulch.
That's item number three.
Item number two, by the way, in terms of planting, will likely not even give a price. For now, we'll just say we'll meet the client at the nursery and after the pre, the first jobs are completed. All right, item number four is going to be to install a flower bed of mulch all along here. You can already see about a four and a half foot border along the property line. But let's create a defined edge to kind of trough it out a little bit with a hoe or a shovel. And then we'll install mulch all the way to the corner. We will need to kind of trough out the side here too, just so up against the concrete it is not flowing onto the driveway. So we'll kind of shovel that out, get the weeds out, and then put in mulch here, all this ivy as well. So this is item number four and this is going to be the flower beds along the driveway. So it's going to include this area as well as this area here. So that's item number four and that will include. We will need to actually tear this stuff out again, let's trough along the edge of the board of the concrete just so that the mold is not spilling out onto the driveway. And then tear out the ivy, knock it down and put down the mulch in the backyard. This is gonna be item number five. This is item number four as well, Hel. So in the back here.
Item number five. And it's a backyard flower bed. So it's gonna be along here. We'll have to again create a defined edge. Putting the mulch along there. We'll pull out this one plant. It's gone, it's trying to grow back, but just pretty raggedy looking. So edge that out, put the mulch back in there. Also in the backyard for now, we're going to install mulch all along this fence line. We'll take out the ivy, knock it down, spray it and then try to create some sort of a defined line. The edge can be and so that way it's not spilling onto the grass. We'll also do it underneath those bushes right there. He never mentioned that part, but it's pretty obvious that needs to be underneath those bushes as well. That will be all part number five, which is the existing flower beds in the backyard. Item number six is going to be to mulch this back berm and he's going to put a privacy fence here and along that back fence. But for now we will take this curb of the edge and we'll bend it around here. And then starting about two and a half to three feet off of this tree, we will go all the way down with mulch up here. So we will just do fabric and then we'll do mulch on top. This will be a separate option for him and it'll come all the way along here just to kind of cut out this whole berm area. It's not growing very well. It's. He's already tried aerating and things that just struggling. So this area lawn does great. This not so good. So we'll bring it along here and then the. What we'll probably just do is tuck it into the shed here. He does want an optional item if he just went ahead and forward. But honestly that it's not going to change the price. So at this point with this much mulch and area going straight across versus just tucking into here isn't going to be a whole lot different. So I would talk to the client on the day of the job and see if they decide if they want to go straight all the way through at this edge or if they just want to curve it and then stop here at the shed. So that's number six. Number seven is going to be behind the shed area, as well as where these trash cans are at. And so this will be mulched in here.
Actually make this part of the backyard. Existing flower beds, this part right here. But then the next part is behind the shed and the garage. So all this area here, just knocking it down for now. Same thing over here. Knocking this all down to the ground level. Trying to get some of the debris out of here from the driveway. You should be able to access this in terms of this guy. Like, I'm thinking we should spray it, and then if they accept this item, we would spray it, and then we would do the rest of the job out in the yard, Let this die off over the course of a few days, and then tear it off. So even if you have to come back a week later, we need this dead. Because it is almost impossible to pull the stuff off the brick right now. It's just completely absorbed into it, and we don't want it to damage their roof. It's okay now, but this is gonna be. Oh, yeah.
So.
You just don't want it taking over. Because even once it gets underneath that gutter, it can really buckle that whole fac.
So we will need to spray it, let it sit for a week, come back, tear it off of the house just to prevent further damage. You can already see it starting to buckle up the top along the gutter on this side. It's not over there. So just to prevent damage, we need to pull this off asap. I'm trying to figure out how exactly I want to break this up just in terms of probably five or six different line items, honestly.
And then he's prioritizing it for him too, because he's not concerned about this frontier. He's gonna literally tear it out. And in terms of planting, I'm best with the plants in the local area. So I kind of want to put that as, like a lowest priority Guts get everything else done first, and then we can always meet the nursery and figure out exactly the plants. Yeah, I would love to get that job. That would fill, like, just off the top of my head, that's a 30, 40 hours worth of work. There's a lot of ivy work, tons of mulch. So that would literally fill an entire week's worth on the schedule. So even if we just got that one job, you know, spending the 5, $600 that we spent on the every door direct mail campaign Would almost be worth it just with this one job. So we're rolling go.
With a project like that where the client doesn't know exactly what they want. A lot of times they need direction of, like, this is what's going to happen. Here's the timelines. This is what we're going to do. And they just want to say, like, yes, he didn't have, like, definitive plants he wanted or, like, definitive types of mulch. He just wanted a problem. He has a problem, and he wants it solved. So if I can create a plan that fixes those problems in the easiest way for him, that's when we'll likely get the job. So we're gonna go full board on that one. We're gonna get the job. Let's rock and roll.
Hey, guys. I saw you pull up. Are you Lee? I'm Lee. I'm Mike. Nice to meet you, Lee. He's in training. Okay, we like that. There you go. Yeah, Fantastic. So I think Jonathan dropped that off yesterday. Did you talk to him or just. We were gone. Oh, okay. And when I came home, I saw it on the door. Perfect. So, yeah, they said you just wanted to kind of go over what that included in things. This included. Yeah, let's do them.
This is going to be a property cleanup and a mulch install. We're going to start getting mowing on this one as well, starting next week. But for now, really focus on the front yard clearing out all these leaves. Also a whole bunch of acorns that are just from falling. So we'll have to rake all of this out. Includes five yards of mulch. And so it should do most of the front yard. And then maybe a little bit in the backyard, we will leave the monkey grass, which is this stuff here. He wants to leave that in all this other stuff. Can pull out all the weeds, rake out all the acorns all back in here, all this bed area all the way down to that gutter. And so just across here will include all this. So I think we might have a little bit extra in terms of mulch.
So really just pulling out all the acorns and the leaves and debris. And then this flower bed here and back up here. If you need to do with the dump trailer, just be careful because you do have some low cables coming across the top of the driveway. And then the backyard here, in terms of the flower beds, really, the only thing that we will do is put in any extra mulch. We'll put it underneath the azaleas back in here. If we do have a little extra mulch put back in here along the. In the azalea area. But he's not worried about the ivy in the back there. He's just not concerned about the area much at all. Just nothing really grows. And this is obviously the backyard where we'll be doing mowing. So.
Is this his as well?
Probably.
Let's make a note.
Okay, so while we were at the job site, we closed the deal. The reason was because we already had the pricing from the door hanger. So again, that's another 10 hours on the schedule for next week. We're coming up against being filled up completely for next week, so we're starting to get some momentum.
