ATTN Lawn Care Business Owners: **This MUST Be Done Before Spring Rush**

Mike Andes (YouTube livestream, Jan 27, 2022) warns lawn-care business owners against prioritizing rapid top-line growth over sustainable, profitable expansion. He stresses systematizing services, finding and retaining employees, and preserving cash flow—especially in an inflationary environment—arguing that unprofitable fast growth often destroys value. He also comments on marketing (favors Nextdoor local deals over sponsorships), promotes his book and new P4P software (pricing mentioned), and emphasizes hiring now (reports ~20 interviews that week) to prepare for the spring rush.

Hey, everyone, Mike Andy's here. We're go ahead and do a live stream. I'm in the office today, so not at my studio, but I figured I would jump in and try to do some Q and A, answer some questions here for the next little bit. So if you have a question, feel free to comment. But I wanted to go over a few things first. First and foremost, something I see right now this time of year, especially as we head into the spring rush, and that is a lot of people getting very impatient with the size that they're growing their business and the rate at which they're growing their company. And it's very concerning to me, especially younger operators, that they've gone from 200,000 to 400,000 and they're like, well, I'm gonna do 800,000 next year. I love that I did that. That's awesome. But there's nothing like growing a business sustainably with high margins, where you sleep well at night, you can afford to pay your employees good. And I'm very concerned about the. The mental and physical toll it's taking on people because they're putting themselves under such pressure to double or triple the demand for your services. This spring will be so off the charts. Getting work is not going to be the problem. You figuring out systems, simplifying, systematizing, and standardizing your services so you can find employees is going to be the deciding factor of whether or not you succeed in 2022. So don't stop putting yourself under so much pressure to triple your business. There are plenty of companies right now that had an IPO in 2021 that are currently worth 10 to 20% of what they were worth last year. Why? Because they've been growing very quickly. They've just been unprofitable. At the end of the day, an unprofitable business is worth nothing. It's only. Only value is based upon the hopium or the ideology down the road will be worth something, and it will eventually produce a cash flow. If your business is not producing cash flow, I take a really hard look at what you're doing and realizing that just growth is most of the time inflating your ego than it is inflating your wallet. So just take a look at that. I'm a big proponent of growth. I love growing fast. I sacrifice a lot so that I can grow my business quickly. But the end of the day, there's nothing like growing a business that has cash flow. And as we head into a more inflationary environment, having cash flow is going to Be the thing that keeps, keeps you, keeps you sane. It's going to be a thing that allows you to grow your business and take advantage when other businesses will go out of business this year because they will not be able to find labor. If you want to have take opportunity, you better be sure that you are stockpiling cash or at least making sure you think about profitability a little bit. All right. This is not a matter of who can grow the fastest and get the most trucks. This is a matter of who can find employees, retain them, have systems in place to make sure that that work is being done profitably. And the same way that every single company right now is being judged on fundamentals in the ST market. Because no longer is it about how fast you're growing. It's about how much cash flow do you make. That is what's going to happen this year. Because no longer can you rely on the child tax credit, not paying a mortgage, not paying for your student loans. You're going to have to figure out, how do I make this business cash flow positive? And I'm, I'm preaching myself here. The same thing that I have to think about when it comes to the franchise, and that is we've lost money for several years now. I have to figure out how to make this thing profitable. And that is, that's hard, but it's difficult. As much as I want to triple the size of it in the next year, I also want to make it sustainable and profitable. So I apologize for the background noise that is wrapping up here at the office and vacuuming and things. Let's go through some questions. What's your opinion on nextdoor ads? I really like nextdoor ads. I like their local deals. Not so much their sponsorships though, in terms of what we've seen in the past. Let her have a shout out. Hey, my abc. Longer. Let's go. John, is it possible to stay stagnant? I've heard that either you're growing or you're declining, I think mentally, and that works really well mentally. But there's nothing wrong with having a business that has $800,000 a year. And next year does 820 and the next year does 840. The next year it is 860, the next year does 830. Like that kind of business is the most profitable. And so for the people that try to double and triple every single year and then they're like, they're literally gonna have to hold their breath for five to six years before they're ever profitable. And that's fine. But. But a lot of times people will burn out before then. I'm very concerned about some people that are I've been talking to recently that they have such massive pressure on themselves. Fools. Yeah, I got it. Cool. Really quick. If you haven't already, please get a copy of this. It's a dollar for the ebook. I think it's $18 for the soft cover and $20 for the hardcover. Please get a copy of this. It's really, really great information. P4P software as it says right there. We just launched it. I really appreciate everyone joining on there. Like the amount of money that I'm pumping into that right now is ridiculous and it's just a long term commitment to what I believe is where we are headed with the labor market. But I appreciate everyone that has supported us and been on there and I just really appreciate it. I just wanted to say that right up front here, gay getting labor will be the issue. Yes. Thank you for all your videos. Very information.
Started hiring now to prepare for the work. Have done 20 interviews this week already to begin the last week of February. Max out your capacity with the current equipment to maximize profits. Totally stress about finding employees. I know we are good.
