Mike Andes argues that the primary barrier between your current self and future success is lacking skills, and that those skills already exist in other people. The practical advice is to become the best student — i.e., learn how to extract and convince teachers to transfer the necessary skills rather than seeking novel skills that no one else has.
The only thing separating you from what you are today to compared to what you want to become in the future in terms of success or achievement is simply gaining more skills. And if skills is the asset required for the success that you want to have, the only thing that we should be focused on is how do I unlock those skills from other human beings? It's unlikely that you need a skill to achieve success that has not already been garnered by somebody else. So now it's a matter of who becomes the best student who actually is able to convince the teacher to give them the skills required to gain the success.
