Transcript excerpt from a YouTube discussion about lawncare business marketing results in March. Speakers report poor performance from Every Door Direct Mail (EDD) campaigns—low response from 2,500–5,000 mailers and no revenue for the first 10–13 days—and attribute some shortfall to broad targeting. Google Ads were paused early in the month; once reactivated, spending was doubled to try to recover revenue.
No revenue for the first 10 days of March, our every door direct mail for Concorde has not been working. So the first round we did 2500 didn't do real well. We were dropping 5000 mailers and only getting maybe 1012 estimates out of it.
In my location, it was a little slow and I feel like part of it was due to me trying to market the entire service area, not really having it narrowed.
Down for the first 12 or 13 days. No Google Ads. When Google did get reactivated, I doubled his marketing on Google just to try to salvage the month and get some sort of revenue.
Every door direct mail can be kind of hit and miss when it comes to a seasonal business, especially when it has to do with the weather like lawn care landscaping. We found that you can literally 3 to 4x your return and the response rate on your every door direct mail campaign just simply because the weather is nicer. If it's really cold and wet on an early spring day and all of your mailers go out postcards or flyers or door hangers, it literally might have almost no impact on getting more customers.
