CELEBRATING MIKE'S 30TH BDAY + SPARTAN RACE

This is a personal vlog by Brianna and Mike Andes documenting celebrations around Mike's 30th birthday and their participation in a Spartan race. Brianna surprises Mike with a private charter flight (over the "Hisanmar Islands") and an Airbnb stay where a friend prepared a 10–11 course gourmet meal; they tour the Airbnb (heated floors, hot tub) and describe recording an audiobook (229 pages, 11 chapters). The vlog also covers product/team updates (customer portal and imminent Field Force app with upcoming video support for Copilot), a brief at-home nose-waxing bit, logistics for an upcoming 10-day turnaround trip and RV pickup, and the Spartan race (13 miles, ~33 obstacles) which Mike completes and Brianna finishes roughly half. Tone is conversational, celebratory, and candid.

Okay. It is September 6th, so exactly a week before Michael's birthday. But as I've said, probably a million bajillion times, because we were doing the Spartan on his birthday, I want to, like, do our stuff and celebrate him separately early.
So today I have two big surprises for him. And we are leaving.
This is, like the longest birthday ever. I got an iPad two weeks early. I got a sauna thing early.
We got food early. You deserve to be celebrated every day. My birthday is still another week away. Exactly. So we have even longer to celebrate. The whole month of September is my first time. It says birth month. So we're gonna be leaving for surprise in about 20 minutes.
I don't know what it is.
And I've been typing it up.
These are the things I know. First off, I don't have to be outside running. I asked about my clothes. I know it's gonna be an hour long. I know it's an appointment based thing. I know that it is kind of crazy because she keeps asking me, like, I hope you haven't done this before. It's kind of like, I don't want.
To set the bar too high then. Because then if I tell you and you're disappointed, that'll be really sad. So set the bar really low. Okay.
Then I thought maybe she was gonna give me a car.
I would not make a.
But I said I knew she wouldn't do that without telling me.
Okay. It's not crazy. Now I need to downplay it. I feel like I can downplay it.
I was thinking originally a facial. Yeah, that was my original idea. But, like, you asked about being crazy and, like, what's the craziest stuff I've done, so it kind of disqualified.
I was just trying to figure out, like, if you've done this or not. And that is. Drumroll, please. We're gonna take a private charter over the Hisanmar Islands.
I knew it. I did guess that. He did guess it. He did.
And I played it off so good, but he did guess it. Have you done that before?
No.
Okay. Yes. Good.
That's a helicopter.
I know. I know that. And I actually looked into a helicopter first, but then I was like, I know you've done this before. So we're just gonna do a jet.
Plane. Yeah. I wasn't gonna do over Mount Baker, but they recommend doing the islands if it's cloudy and it was the only cloudy day in the forecast. Yeah, it's so smoky and foggy right now, so it'll still be cool. We're gonna Be doing it over the islands. But I would have loved to do over Mount Baker.
That would have been dope.
It would have. But it's okay. Yeah.
Let's go anyways. Let's go. Let's go.
Birthday surprise number one revealed. We're in the office. The pilot's gonna come by someday. Ready? Are you excited?
Excited? I read about planes. I read about Plan.
Sam.
What'd you think?
That was great. It was very cool.
It was so, so cool.
It is amazing though. I feel like you really wanted privacy, I guess, like she was mentioning like Reed Hoffman, Oprah, people like that. Reid Hoffman, he had like, he's from LinkedIn, so I think it's Microsoft down in Seattle. But within 15 minutes from here on that plane, you can be at a remote island. That's the advantage.
And she was saying most of the San Juan Islands are private.
Yeah. Well, you think about like what she was saying is like, there's very, very few islands in the US if you look at like the actual contin. There's not a lot of islands besides here and then maybe a little bit on the east coast. So if you want to own an island, you got to kind of be here, right? Only 10 grand to get my license.
Only, he says.
You know what is killer though, is like she said, if you really focus on it three months to get your license, you just focus on it a year. If you do like on the weekend, that's a long time.
I can't make any sense of it.
I meant to ask her how many hours you need. It's like 200 something hours.
Yeah, I think like 240 if I remember correctly. Yeah, in the, in the air. That's where the cost is, renting the plane because like 120 bucks an hour.
Or something like that.
But anyways, it was great. Loved it.
This is Brianna coming at you in the editing studio. Just kidding. I'm on a plane. Some context on these next several clips you're gonna be seeing. My second surprise for Mike's birthday was that I actually told you guys this. But yeah, I rented an Airbnb and our friend who's an excellent chef was there and prepared like a whole 10 course, 11 course meal for us. And he loved it. He said that it was probably his favorite birthday present ever. So enjoy these clips of him enjoying every single course, basically. It was such a good time. The Airbnb was super cool. So back to the video appetizer. Number three.
Himalayan salt. A block of Himalayan salt.
And what is the scallops yeah, bacon wrap, scallops. I think he's still working on the crab cake.
Yeah, but what? And there's, like, pesto.
I don't know. It's like tomato fried garlic.
And then this is garlic, but like a block of like. When was that time you ate up a block of salt? I should lick it. So which one's this?
This is the salmon tacos.
Salmon tacos with cheese hard shells, folks. That's still caramel. Well, mine says about that.
Keto. That's keto.
Well, no, like, really amazing.
Check that out.
All right, we got pork belly with aioli, sugar free barbecue mayo, but check it. This from Brazil. Yeah, you gotta have, like, extra check bag on the way back probably. All right, here you go. Sample it up.
Yeah.
Pretty amazing.
Oh, man. The smoke flavor, is that a secondary flavor from the rub?
So we have passion fruit spritzer, but the ice cube has a flower frozen in it.
There's a flower in the ice cube, and yours is orange. Yeah. Check that out. Okay.
So cool.
Now this smells like a bed of worthies. It test here. Whoa. It flow to the thing on top.
That is so cool.
Kind of a pallet cleanser.
This is a turkey or. No, duck. Roasted duck.
Duck. What's it called? Duck. Something like confetti confet.
Duck confet. I don't know.
Oh, man.
With pomegranate and like a maple. The sugar free lanto maple syrup. So really hot. There's two breasts under there with pomegranate orange. Very colorful.
All right, what is this?
This is pork stuffed with sausage. Stuffed with sausage. Pork on pork. Look at this inside.
Oh, you're right.
Inside of pork with Timmy cherry and pickled Fresno.
Best one so far.
Are you serious?
Amazing. Amazing, Amazing.
All right, we're in it for. In it to win it. Braised short rib. Here you go. Wait, it has a coffee.
It's like a coffee rub.
Oh, my goodness. It slides right out.
Oh, Charity just working her magic.
Wow.
That'S amazing.
Those ribs are probably our favorite.
They're fantastic.
Those are so good. It was like a coffee rub on the short rib with like a. A whiskey cream mushroom reduction. Mushroom, thyme, onion, garlic.
All the good things.
So good. Last main course.
Literally my favorite dish ever. And it's the last one besides dessert. All right, first bite.
Yep.
Do I do it the right way?
Look at that juice.
Oh, my word. There's no way we're finishing this. No, we're not.
It was beautiful. Still is beautiful.
Happy birthday to my love since all the clips from last night were mostly food focused. We got a little excited and we did not give you guys a of ton tour.
So this place is pretty legit. Not going to lie. There's the front door, which is by the way, super duper cool. We're big fans of the heavy duty frame and the glass. Walk in and you see this, which we've already messed it up. It's not quite as aesthetic as it was once was. Vaulted ceilings, though. Big fan. That beam right there. Big fan. Adds dimension and character. These low hanging lights. Big fan. Love it, love it, love it.
I would say that I am here for reference, but I would probably look small even if it was 8ft tall. Yeah.
We have a big window up in front of the sink which I absolutely love. Super sweet kitchen. I really like the cabinets and everything. And then living room. Very nice. Very nice. There's a sound system that I couldn't figure out Whenever we were sitting outside yesterday. That's where we had dinner.
Look at all this light that comes in through the windows.
Oh, I love big windows.
I. I really like the concrete floor.
Yeah. Big fan. The floors are heated in the bathroom. It's pretty legit. But yeah. So we ate out here. I had a tablecloth on the table last night and a candle and everything. And then after we just kind of chilled in the hammocks and talked. It was pretty sweet. So beautiful. And then back here is a hot tub that we used this morning. And it was awesome. All the beautiful greenery around here. There's these really pretty lights that really set the ambiance for last night. Speakers that again, I couldn't figure out last night. So I already brought one.
They have a yellow blanket.
Yeah, it was meant to be. Yellow rug, yellow pillows. Very sweet. Living room. You want to show them the bathroom since you're eager about the shower.
I'll be a real estate agent. Welcome to my open house. Welcome to my crib.
I already stripped the sheets and everything for them.
This is really cool. This is really cute.
This is cool. We got a walk in shower situation on concrete floors again. Can't overemphasize how cool the. The concrete floors are. And with radiant heating inside the floors.
Yeah, it's.
And you have a tub and a shower situation. Like double whammy. We couldn't figure exactly how to get the hot water from this. It was not hot enough.
While he was running the hot water in the bathtub. The shower wouldn't really run too hot. It's okay. Champagne problems.
Yeah. And then this is where we went out. See, this is great too. See, this was smart because then there would block the sunlight from coming in at night. But you got a little warm in here. The one down. The only downside here entire places. There's no ac.
Yeah.
Which if you're down south you're like that's insane here. It's not crazy. But we also do like it cold in our bedroom. Well, Michael likes it.
It's also very shaded here. So I can see why they get away with it.
And this is the hot tub kitchen.
This is the hot tub. We didn't use it last night cuz we were so stinking.
Full concrete. Like it. Look at this. I love this material. Look at this. Wood is so nice. And then look at the metal. The metal doors. We like metal. Metal doors. Metal doors. Heavy doors. And then concrete.
How would you rate your experience last night?
Really good food. 10 out of 10. This Airbnb. 10 out of 10 wouldn't change anything besides the AC because it was hot. But other than that it was fantabulous. What did you say it was the best birthday present. Best birthday I've ever had. Thank you. My whole entire life.
Thank you.
It's gonna be a little bit hard.
To chop next year. But you know, constant improvement. Yeah.
Michael's top it. Unfortunately, you know, Michael's not very good at birthdays.
It's okay. I think. I think that the fun is in I. I think it's so fun being the person to be able to plan this and then be the surprise or. And you're the surprise. E. But we have to check out now. I think we have about 29 minutes left. So that is.
This beautiful house in the beautiful PNW proud wife moment. Because in the span of 26 hours. About that Michael completed is like audiobook recording in 26 hours. And it's like seven hours of content that you would read, right?
Yeah. Probably. It's definitely my longest book. It's like six or seven hours probably once we put it all together. But I'm so proud of you.
So proud of him. I'm gonna.
I had like what, three or four things of bone broth situation.
So he crushed it right here in his microphone.
This is the ninth draft.
So he was holed away in this room. Okay.
So yeah, I just. I just read right off this. And then over here. There it's recording onto the SD card. So 229 pages, folks.
That's a lot of talking. He crushed. That was 11 chapters.
And last night I had to go have I had to, like, we had went and had my birthday.
Yeah.
So I had to go, like, socialize after talking for like 16 hours.
Yeah. So of like recording time, it probably took you nine, ten hours.
At least that.
Yeah.
Because you make mistakes, you know, you don't read words exactly correct. You got to go back every single sentence.
Sometimes in the same distance. I would hear you, like, repeat the same thing five times. I would do the same thing, except worse. But he started two nights ago. We were all ready for bed, and he's like, I gotta do this. The first two chapters. And then crushed. Like, worked all day on it yesterday. And then this morning.
The truth is, last night after we got back, I was like, oh, knock it out. I got in bed and I was like, no, not getting up.
But he got good sleep and he hit it with a vengeance. So.
Vengeance.
You're about to go to the office.
The violent take it by force.
And then you tell about the new release. The copilot release.
Oh, yeah. The customer portal got finished the other day. We had five new pages. I said four on the release, but so it's actually five.
Really?
So customer portal's done. And when are you releasing this?
This Monday.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Oh. So they're gonna be right up against the next big release time. If you're watching this on Monday, it means that probably within the next 24 to 48 hours, we're releasing Field Force, which will have videos for that. Really?
What? I didn't know it was this soon.
Yep.
So if y' all remember, the beta app released whenever we were in Tennessee, So this is like a month ago.
Yeah. We let it sit in a month in beta. So lots of little bugs and little issues get fixed out or worked out and ironed out.
So that's so awesome.
But the big thing is that it's gonna be a one, two punch. I can tell it to hear because no one else knows this, but right after the Fuel Force app is coming out, then we're releasing video support. So you can make a video in the Field Force app. It compresses it down automatically and stores it inside of copilot. And so that's unheard of because we usually use like WhatsApp or YouTube to have videos. But now after 50 megabytes banna. 50 megabytes. Oh, my goodness.
It's crazy.
So this is gonna be huge for estimate videos upsells, property check ins on massive projects. So it's gonna be a big deal. Big deal. But no one don't tell anybody. Yeah. Because it's coming out later, like a couple days after. So you be careful.
Us and 500 of you, the real.
Ones get a no though, you know. Yeah. If you watch the vlog, then you're a real one.
If some of you all don't understand some of the things. Whenever he talks about copilot, don't feel bad because I don't either.
But all right, I gotta go office. I gotta go co punch and go office.
Alright. Okay, that's the update.
Bye.
Folks, we are T minus two days away from the Spartan and.
I'm not ready. I'm gonna say it, I'm not ready. So I've come to terms, I've like already talked to myself about this. You know, me and, me and myself had a conversation and I was like, I've been thinking, you know, if I make it halfway, If I do six, the whole thing is 13 miles. If I do six and a half miles, like I need to be okay with that. And you know, I know I sound like a little weenie and you know, I understand.
My knee hurts. All you experienced runners and athletes out there, tell me what you've done for knee pain. Because it is the bane of my existence. I'm going on a year of running like off and on and it's improved very little over time. We'll see. Mike is going to crush it. I want him and he will. I want him to go the whole entire way. So if I have to tap out halfway through, he's going to keep going because he's going to crush it. He's going to do so good. So, and then, so the Spartan is on Saturday and then on Sunday we are getting up incredibly early to start traveling for the turn on trip. It's going to be a 10 day situation flying in North Carolina first, just basically starting all the way over there back up to Washington state. So it's gonna be great. So here we have a nose waxing kit, an at home nose waxing kit that I got from Amazon. I think it came straight from China. So like, you know, this is not very promising. Let's see if these directions are even in English. We have paper cups, a plastic cup. Wax melts and the sticks 5 grams.
Of wax in this paper cup. Step two, melt wax. Add 20 milliliters of water to measuring cup. 16, 18, 19, 20, 21. Add a paper cup on top of it.
Microwave it for 60 to 90 seconds. I see smoke. I don't think it's very good.
All right, this is what it looks like. Step three says Cover your mustache. That is actually rude, assuming I have a mustache. This stuff is thick, you guys. Oh, and it's hot. It's real hot. Already hardening. Okay, we have to hustle. We have to hustle, guys.
Well, there's no going back now. That's not a booger, I promise. That's wax hanging down. How long do I wait? One to two minutes. It's a random. I have a meeting. What time is it? Oh, I have 30 minutes. I have a meeting with Zach, the head of the media team, to go over the final details of this turnaround trip. So it'd be real funny if I just hopped on like, like this, you know? Has it been one or two minutes? Guys, I'm bored. This is really cute. Okay, I'll check back in in, like, another minute. Okay, folks, it's time. I've never done this before, so. What? That was so anticlimactic. It literally just came out.
Okay, well, this is gross. We're gonna try this again. I'll check back in the second time. Okay, other nostril. Three, two, one. Oh.
Oh, my goodness. That's so gnarly. Look at that. Sorry. You know what? You probably don't want to see that. Never mind. Good thing it was blurry. That's so gross. I love it.
This is so gnarly. I want to do Mike's whenever he gets home. Now I better grow up and do adult things like getting on this work call, discuss the plans of this next turnaround. All right, cool. So I'll make a note to email Jason and then. Okay. So you mentioned there's a new person in Iowa, in Des Moines. Okay. So I'm going to be cooking, like, all the meals on this trip. As many as possible anyway. And I don't know how much propane a 30 footer can hold, but, like, obviously we'd be optimizing for, I guess, like, cooking as little as possible possible during the day. Like, not spacing them out too much. So I'm trying to think if I'm cooking, like, once, obviously, at least probably maybe twice a day on some days. Trying to, like, optimize for.
Good tasting yet minimal meals.
If there are any experienced RVers out there, let me know how you handle this.
Because we're not going to be really doing any grilling. We don't have time to, like, stop at a park and grill. So it's all going to be in the rv. No problem, though. We'll figure it out as we go.
First and foremost, it is Michael's birthday Today, everybody wish Michael happy birthday.
Happy birthday, Michael.
He is 30.
Wiser than ever. We're on our way to the spartan race right now. Fueling up with some Dutch bros. Michael's gonna crush it on his birthday. On the 13th gonn 13 miles.
Brian is going to try to run half. It's going to be fantastic. The weather actually is as good as it was last time, and it's overcast and a little bit cool. So very thankful for that. I think it's. We think it's on the same grounds that the last one was on, so I can kind of. I kind of know what to expect. Obviously, they're going to change up the route and it's going to be double the length as last time.
But is the 35 obstacles.
That'll get you 30 is 30.
I don't know if we'll be able to ford the river like last time because the water level will be so much lower.
Oh, really?
I ain't mad about it. It's a little bit hard like last time. It was actually really refreshing to go waist deep in the water.
But you were so weighed down after that because your clothes were so wet. So I only obviously won't be able to get any footage during the race. Before and after. We will keep y' all posted. Waiting in line to park.
That's right.
What are your final thoughts before going into this race?
I need go pee.
I'm going to check in.
Yep.
Mandatory hair reveal. Just like the last Spartan. Oh, beautiful. Probably going to have a gnarly tan line.
Yeah, I'm going to have a tan line across my face.
That was resting.
You guys glad I crushed it.
Cheers, guys. We. Mike did so good.
We fully anticipated to have to quit halfway through.
He did all the obstacles and he crushed it.
There was one I had never done before.
That one was hard. Like, we didn't see anybody complete it. And he did. He did so good. I'm so proud.
I had to lock in. I had to really channel my inner competitive nature and just lock in. It was where you hang upside down and you loop your ankles around the or your heels around the rope and then you go hand over hand and then hit the bell. So it is like the sun was right behind the bell, too. So I was like, yeah, he did so good. It was great.
It was awesome. I'm so proud. Best way to spend this birthday, would you say?
Let's go.
Let's go.
Best birthday ever.
And now we're gonna go to our favorite Thai spot. We already changed.
We are so out of carnivore for the next two hours.
We already had a banana after the race because we were like, we need something.
It was four hours.
It was a four hour long race for 13 miles. I was hoping I could get under four hours.
I'm impressed you finished. I thought there was an 80 chance that you would have to quit halfway there.
You know, I almost started crying. I almost started crying like whenever I saw the finish line because I was like, I wow, I did that. Like it is such my never matter.
Yeah. A year ago, hardly run any anything.
This was easier than the super and the super was six miles and this was double that.
Yeah, you bet in a super. You were on your last leg.
Yeah, I was. I did not do good on the super, but I still finished it. But this one like, you know, morale dipped and then morale would go up.
Honestly, I think your mental, your mental fortitude has increased your man 100. That's exactly is what it probably a triple.
Also like, don't get me wrong, it hurt, but it's one of those things where it's like, it is just pain and that's all it is. Like you'll get over it.
It's a neurochemical inside of your brain.
Right.
It like not real. You know, it doesn't even exist. Until you lose an appendage, your body doesn't change.
Exactly. I have all, you know, ten fingers and toes. So nice time to check guys. There was this one girl who was doing it and she only had one arm. And that is the epitome of doing it with no excuses. Like no excuses. That those super duper.
Okay, next up, Thai crispy kale.
It's only place we've ever found has crispy kale. They fry. I think it's like coconut oil. I don't know. Something I don't know if they batter. And is it good for you? Probably not. Is it better than than having pizza and pop? Yes.
Yes. Is it?
No. Is it carnivore?
No.
Is it yummy? Yes. So where are we going t right now?
Happy birthday to Michael.
Thank you.
He crushed it. So amazing.
We are at our favorite Thai place currently. I'm so excited. They're about to bring out the appetizers, the fried kale chips. If you guys are ever in the Mount Vernon Burlington location area.
Awesome. Thank you so much. This looks amazing. Thank you. Asmr.
Nothing hits like that. After 13 miles and 33 obstacles.
Here we go.
All right, folks, we are back on the turnaround grind for the Spartan yesterday. I'M a little bit sore. So we're waddling through the airport. We're Woke up at 3 this morning, 3:15, and got on a bus, and it brought us here to the airport. And now we are flying to North Carolina, which is where we're picking up our rental car. And we're doing, like, a normal turnaround layout on Monday, but then Tuesday is when we're picking up the rv. So you guys will see that in the next vlog, see how we adjust to everything and how that goes.
Michael's locking in on his book and the Black Friday launch for that on this trip. So probably gonna end the vlog off here. But hope you guys enjoyed. I will see you in the next video. Bye.
