Confronting the Mechanic | $300k Business in 30 Days (24)

This is a vlog-style episode (day 24) from Mike Andes' "$300k Business in 30 Days" series documenting his effort to build a $300,000 lawn care business in 30 days. In this chunk Mike summarizes the mission (traveling 3,000 miles; target $1,500/day for the Augusta location), deals with vehicle problems and a mechanic visit after the GM Terrence's accident, conducts on-site estimates and explains a door-hanger quoting process, inspects shop equipment/trailer placement, and mentions staff training (Chandler) and staffing disruptions.

I'm traveling 3,000 miles across the country to build a $300,000 lawn care business in just 30 days. This Augusta lawn care location needs to be making $1,500 per day before I can hand it off to a general manager and go back home. I'm starting with no employees, no equipment, and no customers to prove that systems build great businesses.
Today is day 24. Yesterday, my general manager, Terrence, got in a car accident. What's up, dude? Nice tire. Does it not drive? No, it's not turned, but as soon as you see. Right here. Yeah, grab it right there. So the tire they brushed is too big? Well, they didn't bring it to the spare. That's the spare, and the spare's too big for the truck that it's on. Unless. Unless this has been compressed and it's on. We got home late after getting the truck towed. I ate way too much food and spent most of the night being sick. I threw up, and now my stomach feels, like, horrible. The goal is just to push through the day. It's my fault, so there's no sympathy whatsoever. And we've got to get the truck fixed, because if we cannot get the second truck fixed, we will likely not hit the challenge of $1,500 in daily revenue.
What I was thinking, too, is mostly today, just like, I really just want to spend time with you. We might do some estimate together. We might have multiple lawns together. And I just want to show you around, like, software stuff, things like that.
Has our number on the back. Basically, all the. All we would be doing is like, hey, front yard mulch, three yard, you know, brown quantity, four yards if you need to add anything else, and then a dollar amount. Okay. So this one specifically is just for mulch. What they would then do is put in their name, address, and phone number, take a picture of this, and email it to us, and then we can get the job scheduled. Okay. Essentially, you've given. This is the quote. So once I put on door, what they do is totally after them. Like, after that. Exactly. You don't have to talk to them at all. It's just a matter of as you're walking up to the front door. Okay, fill us in. They would then fill this part in, take a picture, and send it if they want the job on the schedule.
All right. We are at the car automotive auto repair place, and the hope is that it's good news.
My hope. My. The chances of that, I don't know. Very low at this point because it's literally sitting in the corner, feeling neglected. So let's go check it out. Good, good. We had the truck dropped by AAA last night, and so just seeing when we could get it in. Oh, my gosh.
Okay. Okay. So the main concern is that because it was hit, you wanted to get it checked out?
Mainly, yes.
Okay.
Yep.
You don't have any other concern, Any problem with it? Let me see what I can do because I have so much.
No, I know.
I'm sure yet to get done. And if it's anything just minor, we can probably get you out fast.
I appreciate it. Thank you.
But I'll keep in touch and let you know.
Okay. Thank you so much.
A lot of people around here have those ring cameras.
No one is. Oh, okay.
What's that? Yeah. Not from Augusta, Georgia. No. But from the lawn care company. Yeah. Yeah, Melissa. We have a property cleanup with her next week, so we were just touching base. Nice.
Hi, Melissa, this is Mike with Augusta lawn care. I just had dropped by your property just now taking a look at some of the rose bushes in the front yard. I know you had some specific things you wanted to go over about those. It looks pretty straightforward in terms of the weeding. We'll definitely do that by hand in these front yard beds. But when we do the cleanup next week, we'll definitely be able to do these.
So just at Jeff's house here, a little bit of a weird entrance, honestly. It's off this curb kind of. I don't know what is a Y junction, but we can park in here. So we got a couple options for them. First and foremost, the front yard is off of a door hanger. Is FYI. This is a backyard. Nice stripes. Yeah, dude.
Yeah. This one's gonna be interesting. Really depends on what they're looking for. Because you could have. If you actually wanted to separate all these bushes out, you'd be here for a day or two. This looks like the county's use is a dump area. Honestly, just take a look at this. I think we're gonna have to leave this area. That's their debris dump. But yeah, overall is trimming all these Is going to part of that trimming. It's gonna be. This backyard is a big job. Lots of trimming. A lot of debris is going to be hauled out of here, and we're gonna have to at least haul a dump trailer load of debris to the dump. So, you know, you're gonna have to talk to the customer, kind of make sure we're on the same page in terms of what their expectations are of Some of these areas, especially, like, back in here, but it's trim every bush, get the new growth out, and then anything coming up through the undergrowth that is not the specific ivy, we will pull that out as well.
All right, so we got back to the shop, and we did get one of these for tomorrow's job for cutting a whole bunch of brush that we talked about the other day. So that's great. That'll go right onto that ecosystem there. And we also, because we've been very securely putting the key underneath this rock, we now finally have the shackle to hide this underneath the combination for the door. Very good. Okay. So we just pulled to the back of the storage.
And we don't have a trailer. And I noticed now that all these other trailers have ball locks on them.
I'm beginning to wonder if someone stole it.
I have no idea where it would be. We have another parking spot over here.
See, like, this guy, he has his trailer hanging out. But this is technically our parking spot.
Right here.
But that ain't. That is not our trailer. Oh, wait. Is it our trailer? Why did it say Barger? What in the world? Oh, it is our trailer. Okay, well, we are saved. But for some reason, we got a ball lock.
And someone wrote on here and said barger. No idea why or what that means. Or someone literally moved our trailer to a different spot. What in the world.
Today? Yeah. Well, Michael got way behind, so Michael's gonna have to catch up. Michael and Zach have a splitting headache, and training with Chandler went very good. He picked up a lot. We got several estimates done, showed him around the shop space. Basically, it's a crash course. And tomorrow, he's literally gonna get the job started and have a crew member with him as a new employee to get the jobs completed. So that will be very interesting. Very interesting, and will be more interesting is whether or not we get any sleep tonight.
And if we hit this challenge. So we'll see.
