A short YouTube video (by Mike Andes) featuring a brief conversation where a contractor removed graffiti and charged $1,000 for an approximately one-hour pressure-washing job. The clip emphasizes charging for outcomes (value delivered) rather than time spent, and reframing customer concerns about duration when the result is high-quality and fast.
Somebody spray painted suicide boys into this concrete. So my buddy Dan removed it, made over a thousand dollars in the process.
Did this entire job in one hour. He literally made a thousand dollars per hour. We, as contractors, always think about how long the job takes when at the end of the day, the customer is paying for the result. And if a customer complains about, oh, it only took you one hour and I paid you $1,000, that's crazy. You ask them, well, would it make you feel better if I took five or six hours, or are you paying me to get the job done?
