Fixing 10 Businesses in 10 Days ($750K Pool Company)

This is a vlog-style YouTube video by Mike Andes documenting the start of a multi-week road trip to fix struggling small businesses (planned: 10 business turnarounds and visits to multiple Augusta Lawn Care locations). The chunk covers day-one travel logistics, team introductions, equipment hiccups, and a substantive business diagnostic conversation about cash-flow problems, seasonality, labor constraints, pricing and growth challenges for a ~$749,000-revenue lawn care business. The clip also includes personal/team routines (exercise, prayer) and work on an upcoming book.

For the past couple years, I have traveled the country fixing struggling businesses. We usually have done three or four at a time. No, we need to make more money. If you go into spring rush without collecting that money, it's gone. Is that legally compliant? I have no idea. I just know you will make more money this time. We're doing nine turnarounds in addition to visiting Augusta Lawn Care locations along the way. No. You stink of being a gm. You did exactly the opposite of what you told you to do. No, the fixed expenses are way too high. You're getting fired. So we're going to be doing a vlog for the next couple weeks. I don't think we have right that he do. Just ask your boss to call. We got kicked out. We're not supposed to film here. This is day one of the next 10 days of travel. We're gonna be taking RV from this side of the coast over back to Seattle. We're gonna be visiting 18 different businesses. Nine of them are Augusta Lawn Care location and nine turnarounds.
We landed in North Carolina. Raleigh, North Carolina. Direct flight. Shout out to the booking team. Let's go. Zach and Bri, do we introd since this is gonna be an ongoing thing for the next two weeks. I've been on the team for like 4,5ish years, so I'm like the head of operations for the Mike Dandy's team. So this is like all we do. And then like Francis is on the team as well as like our videographer and others like Francis. You genuinely look like you have a prosthetic leg. It's so funny. No matter the injuries, nothing, no excuses to get your push ups in. Let me kind of show you the behind the scenes look in the iPad promise. Whoa. We almost died. So you're gonna see a lot of eating, joking around. We have two members of the media team, Francis and Zach. My wife is with me. She's the trip coordinator. Hello. This video. Mike Andy starves his booty a tea.
So now we need to go get some fancy SD card readers from Best Buy because we had three of them ordered and they did not show up from Amazon. And so we have to go pick those up and then we're gonna go get barbecue because we're. Well, three quarters of us are recovering from yesterday's Spartan pov. You are the Mike Andy's team. Ready for the day, all wrapped up because you ran a spartan right before work trip. Zach is driving.
Recovering from relaxing. We'll see. I mean this, this RV could definitely be the biggest Car I've driven. There's no 30 foot RV on your resume yet? Not yet. Not yet. Not for the next few days. Yeah, gonna get a Best Buy. Start a mug. Crazy. All right, no luck here. The hunt continues. What about Amazon shipping to someone in the future? GPS store or a franchisee? That should be fine, right, Francis? Sure. Once again, Best under delivers over promises. Said that they had the SD card readers. Did not have the SD card readers. We'll have like essentially unlimited room in like two days. But we had to hit all the like weight requirements and packaging requirements to get just the stuff to get here. All right, so the first snafu of the trip was officially recorded. Had all my food, all my bags nicely packed inside of my wonderful, wonderful pelican case. But then this guy decided to break open and protein powder all over my clothes. Nice little dusting over everything. They're very growth orientated. When I'm pushing for a goal, I didn't get a number goal, I didn't get a size goal, I didn't get anything like that. Clearly they just wanted to grow. So baby direction, baby vision. Definitely rules, clear rules. We got two, Two owners. But Patrick wasn't here for like a few. I feel like every time there's a partnership, it's never normal. The hard part is that even at 7:15 revenue, if you have two founders, you gotta create like a lot of free cash flow just to keep them alive. There we are. All right, I'm hungry and I'm tired. Let's do this. I think we got documents from most of them. Everyone, almost. Yeah, almost everybody, huh? I think the like two of the guys we're waiting on for the last one's like just signed up essentially. Yeah, exactly. They're growing pretty quickly.
But they said there's not enough cash, not enough cash in the business. And what was the other constraint? I'm trying to remember if they said that labor was a constraint for them. They're very mission driven in the fact where they are like trying to like cultivate like young family guys, you know? Okay. They must have a really bad off season because last year, even the first they were negative $5,000. Last year on $749,000 in revenue. We're just like, we have to get out of this. Like, what are we? It's just pattern recognition. Right. You start to understand, like seasonality, like when to market, when not to market, which employees work, which ones don't. So you weed out the ones that don't. Faster. Yeah. So it's just it's just pattern recognition. It's like, yeah, for me, it's in. This is 19 years in lawn care. So it's just like, well, like someone even getting started at 20 is like. Like, hey, I was doing this for nine years before. Like, I've already put in my 10,000 hours. Right. So. But then that prevents some people from starting. That's not good either. Yeah. Yes. Our goal was, it's to make strong. We need to find what that is. That is what is the diploma, what is the certification, and then what is the steps all along the way to get there. And now we have nothing to do. What are we supposed to do next? Because then leads will become the constraint. Yes. Right. If we get this loan and everything gets kind of like, our monthly payments are down, we have more cash, how do we actually use 100 grand to go the business? We couldn't go out and produce what we needed to. We have responsibilities now that are bigger than just. We convert it. We can't shoulder it by ourselves. Like, we need our team to help us. We can't go back. There's no going back. We've burned boats. Yeah. Literally. It's true. Say, another question I was thinking of. Is there a point where, like, you, like you're saying, like, where you just start. It starts to click because, like, I always feel like it's just six months away. You know what I mean? In the 12 year old. My wife, three to five years for so long now, like, she's so mad and doing. We're restarting again. Like, we. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know a lot of it is sticking to the same thing. Some people think it's like, oh, I've been in business for 10 years. Like, no, no, like, but you did five things. So that's why, like, with Augusta, I was like, I'm just gonna stay doing this one. This is what I've been doing and like, just gotta stay doing the same thing. So just thank you so much for this time with Mike and his team. Just give us the strength to do that and be safe and get these guys across the country in a good, safe manner. Affecting lives in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Amen. Guys, I very pleasure donuts.
We have never used this one. What? We have definitely used it. Nope. We cut it. We cut each. Oh. In the individuals. You want to know why you don't see it? Because it's covered with the graphic, but you're underneath there. Yeah, but why am I?
Yeah, it's easier because I don't have to Fill in all the gaps. Right. So I don't have to fill in the gaps, like, what the Foil framework is. I don't have to, you know, talk to them about raising prices. I just need to tell them they need to do it. But actually, like, I didn't have to break down how to raise prices. They know those elements. And so. So that's why, like, business education in general and just having an understanding of certain concepts allows you. When someone says something, you take that bundled term and can actually take action on it. If I would have told someone that was a novice, like, hey, you need to raise your prices? They would be like, well, how do I do that? And, like, what email do I send? How do I send the tech letter? What kind of letter? How I didn't have to cover all that because, like, the bundle term of you should raise prices just need to be understood and then they can take action on it. Did you find once you got in the rhythm of coming on turnarounds, it was weird to, like, be home for two months? Yes. Yes. I hated it. I did, actually. Same thing we always say. By the time it gets time for the next turnaround, we're like, we're ready for. And by the end of the turnaround, like, we want to get home. And then like, within a month, like, oh, we gotta get on the road. He's dead. He's dead. Someone scare him. That's horrible, though. It is horrible.
Yeah. You get like a bag. I think it's called, like a stoma or something like that. It's like a bag. We gotta change out. Yeah, that's really disrespectful. Yeah. Come on, get your. Get your act together, Mike. What the heck? Talking about a grandma over here. Learn to control your sternum, dude. Deep breaths. Make me cry, dude.
Can't remember if there's a gym on the Iterian or not, but we should have time. Like, we're going to swine, like, on our way to Knoxville. Oh, sick. Okay, cool. That'll be a good break in between.
Most days we have a gym on a lot of the days, but some days we're just driving for so long that, like, stopping for an hour would kind of suck. Well, in the rv, though, we can. Or there's no gym. Like, that's the problem going from Kansas to Colorado. Exactly. There's nothing. Literally nothing. Yeah, we're going to have to figure out an RV workout.
Nice. What's the key to a good muscle up? Huh? What's the key to a good muscle up? Not Being overweight.
Too easy.
Crazy.
One time. I hate AirPods. I do. Bent over rows, they fall out.
Gotta have Ronnie Coleman's. Wait, wait. Edited in the background. It's so sick. Like, even on a tournament tour like this, literally, we have to make time to work out. It's just a core 10, man. Take care of the mind, take care of the body, and the mind will follow.
The whole team goes to the gym. I get starburst jelly beans. Life is good. Just a serving for one, you know, I was just vlogging to myself, saying how it's so important to take care of the body and the mind will follow. So I feel like this is the perfect. Take care of the body. Happy body. Happy body.
And you. It's basically more consistent. It's constantly feeding the pool chlorine so it never turns green. Hi. How's it going? Good.
Authorized the video. Beautiful background. Backyard. We'll have it, too. No worries. Did you want us to pack up or. Okay, that's totally fine. Yeah, no worries. No, we don't want anything. Thank you. Whatever you film is good to go. Okay. Thank you. We got kicked out. We're not supposed to film here. Are we still or are we heading out? We can help. No, we can wait here if you guys want to wait. I'm not trying to rush it. I'm trying to rush from my window. All right. You wanted where we're going, what we're doing situation. Now I know why we're not in the rv. Okay, so we're not an RV now because we have to first drive to Tennessee, do a turnaround tomorrow, then we'll pick up the rv. The truth is, we couldn't find one at either Cruise America location in Charlotte or Durham. Oh, really? Yeah, that's true. Like the size or just, like, in general? No, rv. The size, actually. Light turn. All this stuff was very. And Francis's suitcase fell over. So let's see. Don't say it's my suitcase. Oh, my God.
Oh, wow. It's actually fine. The legs were back there. Oh, okay. We were worried that the actual, like, Ronin that we filmed with was back there, but it wasn't. So when I saw the Mazda from the outside, I was like, ooh, what a fancy car. Yeah. Dude, we really got a luxury suv. Get in here. It's like, fan. Not a fan so far. Okay. So I'm working on the book launch. Just started on the flight, so I just do a bunch of little sketches. You can zoom in. Each of these are gonna be a slide.
So yeah. The book is done. These are some of the drawings that are gonna be inside the book. Cash flow, the sales speedometer. You got the priority of scheduling jobs, all these little sketches. Shout out to all of augustination. Got me I. But that's gonna be the big kind of project that I'm working on throughout the whole next couple weeks on the vlog is getting ready for the launch. So the book itself is done. It's been sent to the media team to shout out Heather for all the design work and then also our audio engineer to make sure everything audio wise is good. But the actual launch itself is what I am working on. And we'll be working on the entire vlog for the next week and a half. All my doodles and sketches are in here. So you see me look in the iPad. Promise. Whoa. We almost d.
We almost died. Hello. Hey. How you doing? Good. I got two rooms under my feet at 6:30. I think that's when we. You hear. At 6:30 it says. Yep. Meet in lobby at 6:25 tomorrow. Cool. 6:25 it is. Leave at 6:30. Yeah. Okay, cool. All right.
We're starting to get word. They're supposed to be out here at 6:30. We're supposed to leave at 6:30.
And they're not out yet.
Not looking too good. Not off to a great start, day one. They slept in. Hopefully they're good. Hopefully they wait.
Yeah, we need to. Nearly 15 minutes ago.
Get ready, sucker.
