Kicked Out! | $300k Business in 30 Days (12)

This is a day-12 vlog from Mike Andes documenting his effort to build a $300,000 lawn-care business in 30 days by launching an Augusta, GA location from scratch (no employees, equipment, or customers). The episode shows local, low-cost marketing tactics (door hangers, mall and roadside sign holding, knocking/field estimates), team setup (part-timers Jonathan and Terence, office contact Liz), specific goals ($1,500/day revenue target for handoff to a general manager) and observational lessons on hustle, closing leads, and customer conversations.

I'm traveling 3,000 miles across the country to build a $300,000 lawn care business in just 30 days. This Augusta lawn care location needs to be making $1,500 per day before I can hand it off to a general manager and go back home. I'm starting with no employees, no equipment, and no customers to prove that systems build great businesses.
Today is day 12, and the new door hangers finally showed up. We have come back home. It is Friday night, and we did not know what we were going to do tomorrow for marketing. And look what's on the front door.
Yes, yes, yes.
Makes me very happy. So I'm going to make sure I get some of those door hangers over to Terrance, and I'm also going to get creative and take a sign to the mall and try to get some more jobs. But I'm starting my day off here, doing this estimate. I'm going to walk you through it right now.
Right we're in the backyard. We're gonna be clearing all this stuff out. This customer was actually not home when I showed up for their scheduled estimate. So I gave them a call, got enough information, and I'm gonna go ahead and make a video for them to make sure they know exactly what I'm talking about. I made a mistake. Check this out. Look at this. This is the day that is tomorrow. I showed up for this estimate.
On Saturday. And the reason for that is because I'm used to Saturday being the furthest column to the right on my schedule. But on co pilot is an option. I moved it all the way to the right for Sunday, so he wasn't home. However, I was able to get him on the phone. I'm going to send him a video, and we should close the deal. That's quite a bit of work. So let me walk you through what's going on. We're going to clear out all this overgrown area that they haven't been mowing. And then their eventual goal is to level this entire yard, take out the trees and. And make this all much more flat. But for now, I told them not to do that because if they're going to take those trees out and grind out the stumps and get all that happening, it's going to wreck the lawn anyways. So I said, just, just wait to do the lawn. We'll take care of the back area for you right now. So we're just basically knock all this stuff down. I don't even know what this is. Like, this almost looks like I would call poison oak But I don't think that's what it is. Yeah, trees growing the whole nine yards. We'll clear all of this out, put down weed, fabric, put down mulch, and hopefully make this place look a little bit better for them. That's what the estimate is going to include and we can get this job done if not next week. Because we only have a little bit of time next week on our schedule, probably the week after. So feel free. As soon as you get this. Just let us know if you have any questions, submit them back through email or give us a call either way. And if I need to meet you back here, I absolutely can do that. But we'd love to get this work for you and make it looking good. So have a great day. Take care.
So all the leads that we've gotten the past week have come from three days of door hanging from Jonathan. He's gonna part time. He's got his own thing he has to do about 45 minutes away. But now Terence is basically ready to go. He's gonna be doing door hangers if he's not doing actual jobs out in the field.
See, this week, this week, Terence was mostly focused on getting his house set up and everything ready for his family because they're gonna be moving here. And going forward this week, he should be able to do jobs as well as pass out these door hangers. There's 3,000 of them in here. Let's go. All right, so we got these three in one door hangers that kind of have the mowing, mulch and property cleanups. But then we also got these door hangers that are just for property cleanups. So that when we go up to these houses, which this neighborhood's great, nice and close together, these houses, we can simply look at project based work. Cause that's what's been selling.
It's all about location, location, location. I don't think the kids place is gonna be a and demographic for this venue. All right, where are we going? Where are we? We're right here.
Oh, look at that. Oh, dude.
Would you rather get lawn care sitting out in the 95 degree heat or in this wonderfully AC building with the risk of having security take you out?
Now fully committed to this. All right, all right. Social anxiety here. We.
All right, so the current strategy is to warm up to the awkwardness of holding this sign and then slowly get more bold with what we're doing. We'll see how that works. At least that's the plan right now.
All right, stage two, sit down next to the sign. Get comfortable with the sign. We have some employees looking at us now. That's not a good thing.
All right, we better move along.
Yeah, you need a lawn. Your lawn mower. But I think that's pretty neat to do that. Well, thank you. That's cool.
Yeah, we got Allow the app. Oh, okay.
Okay. All right, you. Can I sit outside? Can I sit outside? I was just resting for a bit. Can I sit outside? Yeah. Okay. All right. Thank you.
You're not allowed to appetize them all. Okay, all right, we'll.
That's hilarious. All right, well, we were not appreciated here at South Park Mall, so we're gonna go to somewhere and hold the sign where we are appreciated and we have rights and we have equality. Equality of sign holders. That's what we're looking for.
We're tight. Very close.
It was a really long day. We didn't get any estimates. They didn't like us at the mall, so, you know, weakness set in. And Krispy Kreme's.
They let us.
All right, so I'm back here at my trusty corner, gonna stand back up on the hood and hold my sign. And I know it seems crazy. It seems kind of insane that I would hold a sign next to the road or go to the mall and things like that. Seems kind of outlandish. But honestly, if someone's trying to be scrappy and they don't have the money to do a bunch of Facebook ads or Google Ads or create big fancy websites, like, all my leads right now are coming from these type of strategies. And I'm getting at least one mowing customer a day right now, plus at least one to two landscaping jobs every single day. You did this for three or four months, especially during spring rush. I guarantee you build yourself a nice sizable business. It just simply comes down to whether or not you're willing to put yourself in some uncomfortable positions. And trust me, I've been in a few this month. All South Charlotte.
Okay, perfect, because I'm moving to the Palisades area. Do you come there?
We do, yeah.
Oh, perfect. Do you know what a Bright Water community is? It's just built.
Yeah, I do. Yeah. Okay.
So that's where I am.
Okay, well, let me get your address and things. And you kind of thinking some weeding and maybe a little bit of mowing?
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if it needs to be cut right now. Like, I mean, they put down those, I guess.
Oh, the rolls, like, brand new kind of thing. Nice.
But some of them are not Like.
I don't know, it's not taking very well. Yeah.
So I need the weeds on, I need the grass.
Look. Pretty gotcha. I bought like some stuff, like, okay, fertilizer and stuff. Oh, good.
I didn't buy the fertilizer. I didn't know what to buy.
Got it. Okay.
Do I need to buy fertilizer?
I could even just show you what to buy.
Yeah, you can show me.
Yep. Okay, I'll meet you, I'll meet you there tomorrow and then I can take a look at it, see what would need and just let you know exactly what to get. Okay.
Would you set up a sprinkler?
Is it like above ground ones? Yeah, yeah, we can do that for you. Oh, you just got them. Yeah, let's go.
I don't know, I. I hope this works.
Well, hey, it's cheaper than trying to do an underground one, right?
I mean, yeah, but it was still 250.
Yeah. Well, that's pretty cool. That one connects right to your phone.
Yeah, that's why I got it. So I have two of them.
But I'll take a look tomorrow and then I can at least just show you what to do. And then if you like. Hey, I want you to set it everything up. I can get the office. We do. Yeah. Okay, so I'll just meet you there tomorrow at three.
Okay.
And then we can go from there. Okay. That's the way you close out in the evening. Getting kind of hot here, but we got one after about 30, 40 minutes standing out here. Gonna be sprinklers, weeding, mowing. Meet them tomorrow for an estimate. Let's go. No soliciting on the property. Oh, okay. Yeah. You have to go, man. Okay. All right. Thank you.
I'm not trying to create any issues, so if they ask me to leave, I'm out. I'll find a different spot. Totally fine. At the end of the day, if you got one customer, one recurring customer every single day, doing a yard sign, door hangers, knocking on doors, or holding a sign next to road, like I'm doing right now, you could in theory build a business that 600 recurring customers and that's with a 5% attrition every single month. So within a matter of just a few years, if you were diligent and put in the work without spending a bunch of money on marketing, you'd absolutely do it. It's just whether or not you want to put in the work.
Hello there.
Is this Dylan? This is Liz from Augusta Lawn Care Services. I apologize I missed your call. I was on another line. Yeah, you're welcome. Did you have a question about the door hanger that was put on your door? Excellent. So all I need from you would be an email, and then just to ask you if you have a gate, a sprinkler, or some pets that we would be mindful of. Yes, that's correct. And I'll send you a confirmation now, like the welcome email, and then you'll know that I have it all on the schedule and arranged for you. Thank you. We look forward to serving you at your property. You have a wonderful day.
Bye.
Bye.
All right, it's the end of a long day. Pretty exhausted just standing out in the heat that long. It's getting pretty hot. But this morning, I had to do estimates. I was not able to go to the gym. So I'm at the gym right now. I'm gonna go pick up heavy things and put them back down. And I'm doing that because my trainer, Christian, told me I have to do it and I have to hold myself accountable. So. Yeah.
All right. Christian, by the way, is my trainer on Built for Business. Zach, put the link here. Check it out.
Sam.
