Mike Andes (Landscape Business Course podcast) gives a five-point checklist for landscapers to prepare before the spring rush (recording in late winter). He advises: 1) create a marketing plan and budget that specify channels, neighborhoods, frequency and timing; 2) work KPIs backwards from revenue to customers to employees to trucks/equipment and set monthly targets; 3) use the slow season to complete all preparatory work (web, print, scheduled social media) — "everything but the work"; 4) plan what to delegate (phones, emails, estimate creation) so owners can focus on sales and hiring; 5) develop a pay-for-performance (P4P) system by running numbers (labor burden, route hours, callbacks) to attract and retain crew and align incentives.
