Mike Minutes Mastermind 02/07/2023

Mike Andes runs a live "Mike Minutes Mastermind" session covering operational and marketing advice for lawn-care/service businesses. He announces new editable Vistaprint/pro-shop door-hanger and flyer options (including replaceable QR codes), reports on a training with ~28 attendees, and answers many member questions: Super (software) pricing ($40/user), handling bid-sheet requests (attach PDF and use Service Autopilot estimate), pricing and budgeted hours for a 26-acre soccer field (recommend reducing budgeted hours rather than hourly rate; ~14 budgeted hours suggested), vehicle purchasing advice (prioritize a second truck over a cheap car), Google Business/Profile troubleshooting (address indexing and low site traffic explain low rankings), and Google Ads/Performance Max diagnostics (thousands of clicks without estimates usually indicate targeting/keyword issues or platform-source mix like Yelp/Angie’s). He also gives operational tips for managing high estimate volume during spring rush (cluster drive-bys, phone estimates, schedule projects later).

What's up, August Nation? Hope you're doing super well.
A little bit late in the evening. I'm gonna do the mastermind for today. Let's go ahead and paste the YouTube link into the Facebook.
Copy. All right, refresh.
Cool.
A couple quick things that are kind.
Of cool that I think everyone will be happy about.
First and foremost, we have been able.
To wrangle vistaprint and doing a little favor for us on a couple of.
Our designs on the pro shop. Let me pull up exhibit A.
Well, first I should probably do that.
Okay.
Check this out. This is pretty cool.
I think everyone will be happy about this.
I can pull it up. There you go.
Pro shop. Okay, so I'm open up the pro shop. Oh, please have this. I had to clear my cache.
Of course it doesn't know my password.
Authenticate. Thank you.
All right, fantastic. All right, let me show you this. Check this out. So as I showed yesterday, we have the new customer flyer that I recommend you using as kind of your intro packet. And then we have the door hanger when people are doing, when you're doing drive bys or customers are not home for their in person estimate. However, a lot of people were asking about QR codes and can we edit them? And I said not really. However, we have wrangled one design and we're going to try to get them to do a second one for us with the flyer.
So check this out. If I can get the door hanger one pulled up, check this out. Okay, cool.
So I'm on the pro shop and.
I share my screen.
Da da da da.
Pro shop there.
Okay, so these are the two door hangers, right?
Great. Love it.
This one right here.
Check this out.
Go ahead and click order select.
Now you get to change out the QR codes. So if you know how to create QR codes and they're pretty easy to.
Generate, you should be like just Google.
Google QR code generator. You can now change what this top line says, what the date part says, the time set part says, the phone number like usual. But then you can upload a new image if you do not want. This specific one here. All right, this is going to be on you if you order a thousand door hangers and your QR code doesn't work because this one does work and it does take you to a, to the homepage. But if you want to go to your specific site or better yet, go directly to like a get quote, like your flash estimate your landing page, you can absolutely do that.
Okay.
You can send them to whatever you want. And you can change this word to whatever you want. You could talk about your reviews on here if you wanted the design back.
I think already has that though.
Yeah, the no guessing part, you can change every single one of these lines. So if you don't want it to say smoking, or you do want it to say no, no smoking employees, you.
Can change it and it's great.
Same thing with this one. This one says no guessing. See our long history of excellent work. You can change that to be whatever you want.
You can take it to your Google.
Reviews, you can take it to videos like it's currently doing now, et cetera, et cetera. So we're trying to wrangle them into.
Doing the other design for us too.
Which is the new customer one, which honestly, the QR codes work just fine as it is because the reviews are very organic. But I would, I understand why you would want to send them to your.
Your site's page. So.
Yeah, you can change the QR code on the door hanger. We're trying to get them to change. Let us change this one too. So media team is working on it, but for now, the door hanger one's working. If anyone sees any spelling mistakes or glitches with their text boxes, please let us know.
And we got correct. There was a couple designs. Some people noticed the text boxes weren't working to edit. Thank you for screenshotting this. And there's a media team. We'll get on this to print, look at the fix. Usually in a day or two. But yeah, just double check. Make sure everything looks good on your previews before you order massive amounts of them. If you are doing your QR codes, you are liable if you make a QR code and order 10,000 of them. And the QR code does not work. So make sure scan. A QR code can work on a screen.
So like scan your screen, make sure.
It goes directly to the URL. Have other people scan the QR code on different devices in case you could. In case your device has cookies on it. Make sure everyone can scan the QR code before you order 10,000. All right, that's my disclaimer because the QR code that's on there now I think works just fine in terms of. I know it works, but it works fine. But if you do want to make your own, totally fine, just make a QR code, throw it in there, and it will replace the one that's currently on there as standard.
All right, I need to pull up the.
Mic form.
Today was first day of training.
We have.
28 people here.
I think 27.
2829 means, like 27, 28, 29 people.
It's a lot of people.
And yet again, I can see here I forgot to delete the questions from Marathon Monday. So this is what we're going to do.
Share screen. We're going to jump into the window like this. Okay. We're going to zoom in.
Oh, someone just submitted another one as I speaking. It was. It went from 19 to 20. Okay.
What we're gonna do is we're gonna go to number.
14 because there was 13 the other day. And this should be new. It is.
So let's go back one just to make sure.
Okay. I.
Let's go back again.
Are we charged for user employee also? Let's go back again.
Okay, number 10.
Looks like the thing we're doing.
Make sure this is all correct. I think this is the one that we did.
Okay.
Yeah. This is the last question from yesterday. All right, we are Good. We have 10 more questions to go because that was the last question of Monday. I apologize for not deleting my questions yet again.
All right, we need to first change this questions. All right.
And we're live.
All right, let's jump into the questions. Boom.
All right, number 11, Kevin from Bloomingdale. Is super going to charge us this year? How much is it supposed to be per month? So it is. They are supposed to start charging. I think the stink that I made the other day is probably going to slow them down because I told them to go ahead and start charging.
At conference. I said they can go ahead and start because they never actually promised us.
That they would not charge us, to.
Be honest with you. And they let us use it for.
A year without charging us.
But it's $40 per user. So if you have a whole bunch of, like, old users, you might want to leak them out of your account. But again, they haven't asked for credit card information, to my knowledge, from anyone, and they haven't charged anyone, to my knowledge. But I have given them permission to go ahead and start. I think it's only fair, especially the.
Fact that we're going to be leaving.
Them down the road. So.
Yeah, it's $40 per user, which works really well for most those who are on solo operators. You have one, two users.
It's very cheap compared to service autopilot.
Kevin from Bloomingdale.
Are we also.
Are we charged per user employee also? Yeah, it's $40 per user on Super.
No one's been charged a dollar yet though, to my knowledge. But I have given them the okay. I did it a month ago. I think they might wait a month or two though now because I sent.
Them a not so nice email.
Derek Duran from Allen Park, Michigan have you determined when how have you determined when and when and when not to.
Take on new business ventures?
You spoke about the dangers of getting distracted and doing other things. So what would you say is the guiding principle for you when you have decided in the past an endeavor is worth taking on? We are in a different situation than you, but I think the principles probably would be the same, just a different scale. Yeah. So what's his name? Lee. Sorry it's late.
Lee asked me a similar question on the.
C Suite Unfiltered podcast. I basically said one of my biggest regrets was trying to do businesses outside of my zone of expertise, which is lawn care, landscaping and small business and service based businesses. When I tried to like do reset and quickly found out that like there's no reason why anyone else that has four or five hundred thousand dollars could not just do what I'm about to do and I am out of my zone of expertise. So in terms of what I now synthesize, like my distraction is do I have a unique and competitive advantage against everyone else in this industry or this field or this business venture that I'm trying to pursue? If the answer to that is no, then I'm out. And that's why like my returns on say something like real estate are going to be like amazing because I'm not like the best of the best of the best. I'm not in the top 1% of real estate people. I'm probably in the top like 15 or 20% because I have a real estate license. I've done some deals, but I'm definitely not in the top 1%. I truly believe I can confidently say I'm in the top 1% of lawn care and landscaping. So I truly believe any industry or any business idea that's in long term landscape is probably going to be really.
Well because I know that industry well.
And so distractions for me come in the form of other industries. And I've just got better at realizing that now. And now it's like I don't even think about them. Like if something came along I was like oh, like there's this great pool opportunity, like clean pools, like great. That's in service based businesses. But if I'm going to be installing pools or I'm going to be doing swimming lessons in pools, there's Not a shot in the world. I have no unique advantage over any other human being that just has a startup capital to do that. And too many people just like, jump at the next shiny thing. And I include myself in that. That was one of the regrets, I have to admit, on the podcast. But you have to step back and ask yourself, on any business opportunity, what, like, realistically, what percentage of are, what percentile of the population are you at this thing? If you're just average and you have the capital to do it, you're at 50%.
If you, like, really, really skilled at something, you're probably from the top 10%. If you are maniacally focused on it for five or 10 years, you're probably the top 2 or 1 or 2%. Those are typically the industries you're going to crush.
And so people that say fail fast or fail, a lot of times it's because they don't know what their zone of expertise is. So it's like, just do a bunch of stuff. And what you're really saying is, I don't know what my zone of expertise is. I don't know what I'm good at. So I'm just going to do a bunch of stuff and mess up a bunch and hope that something sticks. And that works great in good economies. No one talks about, like, failing fast.
And breaking things right now it's like.
Make profit and make sure you can pay the bills and don't go into debt.
All right? So, yeah, I would say it applies across the board. If you can learn anything, don't do anything stupid. Like I did. And I was like, oh, I could do anything that has to do with, like, business. Like, there are definitely universal elements of business. However, if you're getting an industry that you really have never had any experience, you don't have any advantage over, you don't know what you're doing. And it's just. You're just stupid money dumb. Money always gets whacked first, right?
Evansville. When someone send a request for bid and they send you a bid sheet, such as the one I attached to the bottom, do we fill theirs out and not send them one through essay?
I do not want it to seem like I cannot understand simple requests and instructions, but want everything in the systems do I just populate the information on both and send the forms, their form and through essay. Okay, so it sounds like this is probably a commercial deal. Let's go ahead and open this up. I gotta close this tab down. Give me a second, guys.
Sorry.
Close this tab down. Gotta Stop the screen.
I present. I'm gonna put that, put this window in here, man. This is a joke.
And there it is.
All right, let's see what you're looking at.
Bid for lawn maintenance services. Okay. Someone made this in like Microsoft Word.
Okay. Whoa.
That is huge.
That is huge. It's mass. Massive. Oh, my goodness. Soccer thing. Okay, cool.
All right, so what are they telling you to do? Build monthly for two year contract.
Mow 26 acres.
Okay.
I'm guessing they want you to fill this in or something. Because what I'm not seeing is them.
Telling you to fill this in somewhere.
I'm assuming they have somehow told you.
To fill this in.
Oh, you know what? I probably missed? I bet I missed something.
One second here.
I bet I missed a second page of this document.
Oh, I. Yeah, so you showed me Excel spreadsheet. I can only open up the first tab based upon what I'm seeing here.
Oh, oh, oh.
One second. Open with Google Sheets.
Oh, now we're in business, folks. Look at this. Come on, load, load, load. Come on.
It's still loading. Give me a second here.
All right, let's present Share screen.
And it's still loading.
Why is it taking so long.
In the world?
Okay, now we're talking baby simple invoice. They literally created this in Google Sheets.
And sent it to you. That's so funny.
Okay, so they want, they want like.
A dollar amount right here, please parse.
I don't see where they like want you to fill something out. Assuming they told you to like put.
Dollar amounts in here and then a dollar amount here.
You know, in this case, I would probably just do it in service autopilot. I would fill this out, I'd send it as an attachment to the estimate email and say, hey, attached is your quote as well as inside of our software system. It'll hopefully set you apart from the other five people they asked for this quote that you're just going to literally fill out this Excel document. And yeah, if you want, if you want the bid.
Assuming.
Yeah, yeah, it's probably like, I don't know if this is a non profit or school or something like that, but likely, literally it's like, hey, we need to make a bid and someone's like, we should make a form for them to fill out. So it's really easy for us to see the prices. So it's again, probably going to go the lowest bidder. But I would personally make the estimate inside service autopilot. I would attach this as a PDF to the estimate and I would say in the email, see the attached PDF for your quote or click on the.
Link below and here's your estimate.
All right. Also, when it comes to my last question on the vid sheet, this is for a 26 acre soccer field in our local area. We have, we have zero turns, so not a big deal. However, most of our pricing is set up on a 25 inefficient score. In a larger place like 26 acres, when you're there all day, to seem more competitive, is it best practice to lower that 25 inefficient to somewhere between 5 to 10% for pricing? For example, 16 budget hours times 80 hourly, 1280 times 90 efficiency. So basically when you get the number 10% or 20% discount, is this how we would look at something like this is I would reduce your budgeted hours. Don't try to change your hourly rate. Use your budgeted hours because again your guys, if you're, if you're actually assuming it's gonna take them 16 hours, you could do 14 budget hours because like you said, there's way less drive time. However, keep in mind your, your mowers are going to be going all day long. You're going to burn a lot of fuel. There's a lot of hours being put on your mower. So there's a lot of wear and tear. Is this how we would look at something like this? It's is easier to go down to the budget hours or should we just bring the price down? But wouldn't bring the price down effect P4P. It wouldn't affect P4P because remember they're making, they're not having any waste in the day. So you're giving them a job that is like no waste. And so you can bring the budget hours down because they're getting paid on that. Just trying to figure out this out simply so I have something to bring forward. Yeah, I personally, you know, if you did, if you did 12 or 13 budget hours that assumes like a 75, 80% efficiency rate. Again they're going to still drive there. There's some drive time and load time and stuff like that. So I would probably say you're safe doing 14 budgeted hours. If you're trying to bring the price down to just don't move your hourly rate. It gets starts getting really confusing on P4P and running the math for the guys and them being able to do.
The math in their head.
Plantation, when do you recommend getting an estimated vehicle? I asked that because right now I only have one Truck and it's also my personal vehicle as well. I was thinking of maybe getting a small cheap car for $2,000 and using as, using it as a estimate estimates or should I save up for a second truck and use that? Also I have a helper I'm training and I plan to let him go solo. I'm two to three weeks. In two or three weeks, I'm guessing what you're saying or when we bust through 13k, whichever comes first. You're going to spring rush. So I think you're probably safe to say you're going to need a truck. You got this employee.
I would personally probably do the truck because you're going to need to buy the truck no matter what. If you buy the car, yes, it might be only $2000 but like you're gonna have to pay another 1500 to get it painted, decal, licensed and now it's insured so an extra, you know, 100amonth on that. So a two thousand dollar car is great, but you're literally gonna pay fifteen hundred dollars, have it painted and decal. Right. So personally I would rather put that $2,000 towards the second truck that's going to bring in revenue because that car, yes, it'll drive you around just fine, but you're gonna need the truck in addition. So personally I would get the truck right off the bat. I wouldn't get a estimate car until.
At least your third or fourth vehicle.
Like I would say fifth or sixth. But if you're actually needing a personal vehicle like you're using it for both, then I would potentially buy it in.
Your third or fourth.
But remember your trucks make you money and if you need that truck and you know you're gonna need it here pretty soon, I would just go ahead and do that and just eat the extra cost of a little worse fuel economy not having the car. Landon Smith, Tallahassee, Florida. I submitted my address into my Google my business profile a few weeks ago to a week ago and I'm not still not showing up. I have plenty of reviews so I'm not sure what the problem is. Suggestions? Okay, you had submitted this before.
Give me a second here. Business profile.
Oh sick.
I'm gonna have to add my account. Sorry.
I cleared my cache today.
Trying to figure out some software stuff.
And because of that of course logs out of every single account. All your passwords go. Bye bye.
Okay, here we go. Tallahassee. Tallahassee.
All right, currently you are active.
You.
Everything looks Good. You have 51 Google reviews. Oh, you guys can't see what I'm looking at. Stop sharing settings.
East Tallahassee, let's go.
Okay, so this is what I'm looking at.
Okay, so what's your question?
Still not showing up. I see you showing up. I'm wondering, you might be asking about your.
About your.
Your rankings, but again, you only had 21 customer interactions mean people are hardly being driven to your site. I'm assuming you're probably not running any ads or anything like that because you just got started. So let's go ahead and look it up.
Let's go look at Tallahassee Lawn Care.
If you just got this up last.
Week, just keep in mind it's not going to like, immediately jump you.
Okay, so you just got started. Last few months.
You'Re not driving any traffic to your site. I can already tell that because there's only 20 hits.
Let's see here.
I'm going to guess the fourth or.
Fifth page, typically where we end up landing without any traffic.
There it is right there.
Fourth page. You're at the bottom of the fourth page right now. Just keep an eye on this. Right. Like I would every week. Just check in on it. And the goal here is to be able to just keep moving up. You'll move up very quickly when you.
Start driving traffic to the site.
So right now you have 21 hits to your site over the past month. If you start running ads and start getting 20 a day, this will move up very quickly. You have 50.
You know, 50 reviews. That's fantastic. Here's the thing, other thing I wanted to take a look at so you could.
Oh, got it.
So you put your address in. Fantastic. That means I should be able to go into here and I should be.
Able to see you.
You said east?
Yeah. You're east, right?
Yeah.
Yeah. Okay, let's check this out.
If it's been a week, it should be in here.
But I've seen it do worse.
I've seen it take a couple weeks.
In terms of the addresses popping up on the maps.
So I don't know exactly where your map is at. Otherwise I just do that. But what you can do is do what I just did here in terms of search and see if you're actually popping up as Augusta Lawn Care.
There's Tallahassee. Okay.
And if you're not, oh, there's Athens.
Yeah.
So I'm not seeing you pop up yet on the screen. So it's very possible it takes a couple weeks sometimes for you to show up on these maps. But in terms of you being there, you're on Google listing. It's active. You're on the fourth page of Google currently, but that address has not taken effect because I am not seeing you.
So that will be helpful. But more importantly, what's going to hurt you right now is just the lack of traffic. So I'm not seeing East Tallahassee long here on the map, yet you are active.
One more thing I want to check.
Let's see here. There I go. There we go. Okay, I wanted to go back to. Sorry, give me a second. Tallahassee. Tallahassee. Tallahassee. Let me pull this up. Tallahassee.
Yeah, there you go. No.
All right, let me just check one more thing because I can pull this up. Tal see?
Okay. So your address is in your Google listing. That is a good thing. For some reason, I'm not seeing you on the map, but I can confirm.
This by going, aha, there it is. Okay, you manage the kk. Here we go, here we go. Address. Boom. Okay, now we're talking. Let's see here.
So you are popping up on this Google map itself, but you're not in this actual ranking, so that could take some time. So I would give it a little more time before you actually pop up on this map.
Because your address is inside your Google listing, I think you're gonna be just fine. Just keep in mind that typically we do see.
Even if you have a bunch of reviews, you'll be on fourth page of Google until you start driving traffic to the site. That being said, I do believe in a week, once everything's indexed with your address, I do believe you'll start showing up on the map. You have plenty of reviews. That's not the problem. But when you only have 21 hits to the site in a month, Google just doesn't trust the site.
That's really what it's going to come down to.
So go in the spring rush. I think just by getting your address on there, it's probably been helpful. Probably push from like 10th page to the fourth page. But you've only been up and running.
For two months in terms of the.
Site being active, so you're gonna have.
To drive a little more traffic to.
It, which will probably come in spring.
Rush when you start advertising.
Okay, that was a long tangent.
Present Share screen window. Chrome window. Okay, here we.
Alex from Stanley Camino.
We will have so many estimates during spring rest, I physically may not be able to go to all of them. This is due to partially Fisher limitation on time, hoping to reduce estimates to three full Days a week and partially due to large surveys area we are working in where drive times eat so much of my time. Please give suggestions on how to prioritize, communicate with customers and otherwise manage the flow or overflow of estimates. Great, great. Thank you for submitting questions. Alex, good to hear from you.
First. So for everyone with context. So Alex has this weird territory and that is a really long peninsula. All right, so it's I'm going to guess a couple miles wide but it's really long and skinny and so in terms of population I think it's, I'm going to just guess this one. Probably 40, 50,000 people. But it's like a long stretch and there is a lot of drivable space because the middle of it is like nowhere and everyone's on the peninsula like the, the coast. That's where all the money's at.
Personally I would do two things. One because I know your market, right. So Stan would, I would personally do try to do all your drive bys and in person estimates on one day. Another day I would try to do everything below on the bottom part of the island or the the peninsula because you kind of have top and bottom that are most important. I would probably refuse drive bys or in persons outside of those two blocks of space. It'd be like hey look, I'm gonna go to Stanwood and I'm gonna go to Camino and anywhere in between that it's like I'll do over the phone estimates. I'll do those for mowing but I will not do in person estimates. I would be inclined to look at like this is what I would do Alex. I would look at your map of all your existing customers and I would get dare to assume that is a big chunk of them up top and a big chunk down below. If that is the case I would, I would actually think about eliminating everything in between.
Because then that way your guys like when they're going to go do a route, they just drive straight there and do a very dense route instead of like driving kind of all over the place, getting there. And same thing with estimates. You don't have this big gap in between of driving around the peninsula in the middle. It's like look, I'm going to drive there for 25, 30 minutes, knock out 10 or 15 estimates and then come back home instead of like 1, 2, 3, 4 and all over the place.
I would also think about the fact because I know your situation last year and literally like most of Washington stopped taking estimates last year.
I would highly Consider not doing in person estimates if you start getting overwhelmed and just doing over the phone estimates so you can at least take on that burden. And furthermore, I would ensure very, very importantly that what we talked about last week is upheld. And that is try to get all your spring cleanups for existing customers out of the way in February so that when March comes you can focus on mowing. And then when you hit April and May, and it's just absolutely absurd, crazy amounts of work. Do not schedule projects immediately. Schedule them for June, July and August. And if people don't like that, that's fine, just, just let them go.
But you've got to start making sure that that spring rush time is dedicated towards mowing and over the phone estimates and getting those prioritized and initial mows and then projects, you're either in February or you're pushing them off till June, July and August. So that would be my recommendation.
Yes.
Landon, the Google Performance Max. Do you have any links, pictures, et cetera that would fit in for spring cleanups? If not, where can we find those? Thanks. You could go on. So on the dashboard at the bottom of the templates and downloads. No Mark logos and marketing.
Oh man, Michael, you gotta do this to yourself.
Store digital marketing and logos under digital marketing and logos. There is at the bottom of that a bunch of files that has 50, 60 pictures inside of each of them. They're high quality images. Definitely feel free to go through those. Pick the ones that are more bush trimming related or raking up leaves or branches or whatever you want to do. I would use those pictures if needs be and then just edit the text to be more spring cleanup based. Whether the leaves or bush trimming. Like literally instead of mowing you're using property ups. Instead of mowing you're going to use.
Trim bushes. Clean property cleanups. Like those are the words you're going to use, right? You're going to target target obviously separately as well.
Terms of the keywords.
All right.
Forest. We're getting thousands of clicks on Google Max ads but getting no estimates. What's the reason for this? If you're getting thousands of clicks on Google Max, it's likely that you have not set up the keywords you're likely sending setting up a an ad that does not have any subgroups. And if you are, you very likely are targeting the like way too large of an area. I have yet to see people get more than like 50 clicks in their 5 mile radius in a day on Google Maps.
Clicks, not impressions clicks. And they are, they're spending a good amount of money, which is totally fine. That's great. It's a very good thing. But if you're getting thousands of clicks and you're not getting any estimates, it's very likely that you're either targeting way outside your area or you're not setting parameters around keywords and who's visited which sites. Send a picture though, on the neck on the mastermind here and I can.
Take a look at it.
Ah, here we go. Let's go. This is our Google Maps campaign stats command. Takes all calls from Google leads. Keep in mind that Google local services is different than Google what you're talking about here. And our office manager is taking all calls from Yelp. Angie's 90%, 99% of our leads are coming from Yelp Angie.
All right, let's check this out.
Okay, so let's see here. Okay.
Thousands is a little bit different.
Okay, here we go.
Stop sharing. Pull this up and where are we going? Where are we going? Share this.
Okay, there you go.
Okay, so cost per click is about a dollar.
So you've gotten 1500 clicks or so it says. I would want to see why these spikes are here.
Because you had clicks randomly go up to above 100 per day and then it came down to zero. Something's got to be off.
Yeah, because people don't like randomly in a day go from 0 clicks up to 120 or 130. And then your click through rate, I.
Can'T see the right side of the.
Screen, but it also like 5 or.
10X randomly while your clicks went way down.
So unless you've changed your budget massively.
Right here, that would be something like. I'd be looking at.
A.
Keep in mind too, you're probably competing against Yelp. If you're paying them, you're literally probably.
Competing with them on these.
And so a lot of your traffic.
Will end up going to them too.
Yeah, I'd have to see a lot.
More on here.
But. And I have to like, look at your. This is something you want to go on a coaching call. Right. So they'll dig into the go through your estimates. Say, okay, like which ones of these came from Angie's list and Yelp, for example, which of these come actually from Google? And then looking at. Okay, of those leads that came from Yelp or whatever, what was the cost on those? And potentially, again, every market's a little different. Potentially, you're getting them in the system for a cheaper customer acquisition cost. And it's a good thing you should roll with them. I've seen it work with angie's List and HomeAdvisor sometimes work really well when it comes to slow periods of the season when there's not a lot of intent based people looking for things on Google for landscaping and lawn care. Sometimes those places will outperform in terms.
Of cost per click.
Right?
So not a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with using those platforms. Just keep in mind when demand goes up and people are actually looking in spring rush for services, this is typically when Google will outperform them.
Nothing against them whatsoever.
Okay, I'm guessing this is force.
Nothing has changed.
I'd have to see these.
I'd have to go I definitely recommend going with on a coach. They want to look at this and see why the click through rate jumped like this and why your number of clicks jumps like this. But I'd be looking at your targeting to see why in how even possible you're getting 120 plus clicks etc. Make all new ads. I'd recommend making a new one. I was talking to Logan today. He created the ad and then it didn't go up for a long time. So try recreating the ad. It's not a bad thing sometimes either. A you might have missed done something inside the radius, stuff on the targeting or something wrong along those lines. But just keep in mind like right now you are spending $50 a day basically on this. It's fine. And dial this back if Yelp and Angeles is crushing it because those are only going to bring people of access to like a form. Go for those during the spring rush when everyone's searching on Google for landscaping and lawn care. That's when potentially you're going to see Google just take off and do way better for you because people are actually looking like remember people only are you know seeing these ads if they're looking for certain keywords. So if there's not anyone looking you're going to pay way more for the click because there's. There's way less people looking for the ad.
Right.
Just keep in mind it's not to say that I'm not against those Yelp.
And Angie's list by the way.
I not I'm just not a fan of depending on them exclusively because you're essentially paying them to run ads against you and then secondarily is you become subject to renting out space from someone else if they dump, bump up their rates if they do whatever like or they decide determine they're going to give the leads to Someone else, you're kind of this out to dry. So I just would Never want like 90, 80, 90% of my leads coming from that lead source. However, they can be helpful during the winter months because they are getting people inside their ecosystem and then trying to get them to submit forms versus Google. It's only people coming to look. So if paying $1 one per click this time of year, it's likely not too many people are super excited about doing landscaping and lawn care. However, in spring rush when everyone searching.
For these keywords are ready to buy.
You might be getting, you know, people for 2, 3, 4, $5 versus you know, 20, 30, 40 at the likes.
Of, you know, Angie's, et cetera.
At the end of the day I just want all leads possible however I can get them. Yeah, just keep in mind that like if, if demand is low, then your cost is going to go way higher.
Right.
If no one's searching on Google and there's only so many clicks to be had, your cost per click will go up. It's going to be more expensive.
Right? Right. So keep that in mind.
That's why like a lot of people just pull back their ad spend during the winter. Where are the new estimate videos located? I missed them. I posted it in the Facebook group and then I updated the drive folder.
On the dashboard that has those under the downloads.
Hey Mike, I remember in training you mentioned you typically see people really take off their second spring rush. Why is that? That's because the second spring rush your website's ranking organically and the majority of your leads stop coming from paid advertising only.
Right.
So if you are in your first year and you're on third, fourth page, like, like what Landon was talking about. He's a couple months in, you know, still on the fourth page of Google. I anticipate that hopefully by March, April, when he starts hitting spring rush that he's on the first page. However, when you go into your second spring rush, you're typically at the top of the game in terms of SEO. And furthermore, you should have a lot of people in your database that where you're now getting leads from one click estimate emails, referrals, customers know who you are, people are talking about you, you have some brand recognition instead of every single lead coming through paid advertising, which.
Is the case for your first year.
I had a one star review come up on my account.
That's totally spam.
Have you ever, Google ever remove reviews that are not legit? You can, you can report them and try to get them to.
Take it Down. I love spam reviews. Again, remember, your customers are looking for the one star reviews and then looking for a response. So again, on the dashboard there's a download for responses to these type of reviews. I'd highly recommend using that. It shows your professionalism. I would love fake one star reviews, especially if you have no other one star reviews because everyone's going to come read that one. So if it's fake, your response is like, it's easy. As I'll get out.
My cost per click is higher than 98 cents, about $5. Like, yeah, it's just literally every market is so different. For example, Plantation in Florida. Like, yeah, you're going to be much.
You guys are pretty busy. What was that?
Okay.
Are all your clicks actually setting up estimates though? No, absolutely not. No, you won't have a lot of clicks sending up.
Estimates and the conversions much lower during the winter.
Right.
Like if I went out and spend tomorrow, if I spent a thousand dollars on Google Ads, I would probably get like a 20, $30 cost per click and very few people that clicked on it would ever need my services. Because right now my climate, there's no demand, there's no one needs services.
Right.
So someone might click on you on a YouTube ad because they're like, oh, this is cool. But they're not going to fill an estimate request form. There's nothing to be done. Right. So it might be a good branding thing that you're doing now by doing Google Ads or doing YouTube. Especially on the YouTube side. Branding, great. But just remember, you're probably not going.
To get a lot of actual clicks.
That convert into estimates this time of year if demand is really low. That's why winter services are so important. You take the existing customer base that you have, those are the best ones to sell during this time and that they're on a recurring basis.
Yeah. Just remember, cost per click is not the number we care about the customer acquisition cost. Right. So how many of them actually convert into estimate? How many of those estimates then actually become sold?
Because that's the part we're really looking for. All right, I think we have one more question here. Present, Share, Screen.
Mastermind.
Oh, that was it.
Let's go.
All right, everyone, hope you fantastic evening. Fantastic rest of your day and yeah, trainings this week. So I'll definitely get to these masterminds throughout the week as I can in terms of timing those be kind of.
All over the place.
So have a fantastic day and we'll see you tomorrow. Can you get a text for when you're doing masterminds? No, that would be tough. I guess, theoretically price in an automation.
Up with like zapier through Facebook.
But for now, I'd probably set up notifications on the Facebook group to make a notification, like a push notification whenever there is a new post on the Facebook group. That's probably the best way to do it. But if you can't make it and you don't know what time to do.
It, just submit the form and watch the recording.
All right, guys, take care.
