Mike Minutes Mastermind 05/31/2023

Mike Andes hosts a Mike Minutes session (05/31/2023) giving operational guidance and answering member questions. Key items: recommendations on completing PCI compliance (do it by phone; avoid incorrect online answers), a personal request seeking a Canadian sponsor to help a Pakistani developer obtain a Canadian work permit so his daughter can access services, and Q&A on pay-for-performance percentages and the timing for purchasing a growth model. The video ends with brief personal updates about hiring and local marketing experiments.

Hey, everyone. Hope you're doing super well. Let's go get started. Let me just make a quick note. I've been forgetting to do the audio version of Mike. I'll put those up for the last couple days and just after this, I'll do that. Now that.
All right, let's see what we got today. Oh, we got a couple questions that came in. Okay, let me just drop this YouTube link in.
Boom.
Destination. Well, I had a couple things to go over before we jump into the questions.
First one.
PCI compliance. If you're using Clear it, you likely will be getting an email around this time of year. Sometimes it'll go into later. It depends on when you signed up in terms of PCI compliance. That PCI compliance is something that honestly I'd recommend just doing over the phone. I believe Command center can do it for you. But based on what I've seen, a lot of the questions they ask is just for the owner and you kind of got to do it yourself. So I just recommend calling them if you've never done one before. Because if you do it online and you answer one question wrong, it could get everything delayed and it's a pain in the butt in terms of answering the questions. Think of it from the perspective of they are going to check the box that you have are keeping things secure. Like you're not writing down credit card information on a piece of paper and stuffing underneath your desk. That's what they don't want to hear. To just keep that in your mind as you're answering questions and typically you'll be fine.
All right. The other one that I got is not high priority, but something that I would appreciate some help on from a Canadian. I need a Canadian, if possible, to help me with something and I'm happy to pay like $1,000 to deal with the extra hassle of this. There is one of our developers on the co pilot team that is in Pakistan as a phenomenal developer.
And we would like to move him over to Canada on a work permit. And the reason for that is because his daughter has special needs and they just don't have the social infrastructure over there to actually support her. And so it's. It's basically they leave like she can't even go to school and stuff like that. So we're trying to get her over here. The US Is just much more difficult in terms of timeline to get a work visa. So if someone is willing to be the sponsor for them, they have plenty of money and he's willing to pay someone to do it. And so I'd be happy to pitch in some money too just to help with that. If you are willing to take on that. I would imagine it's probably going to be three to five hours worth of your time over the next few weeks or months to kind of help with that process. Please let me know. I'll give you a thousand dollars on top of yes, here, that's his name. He would pay for the actual cost. I think it's like a few thousand dollars and like that he'd be. He's very smart, he's very accommodating. He's worked with Patrick for three or four years and he's been working with me for six months now on co pilot and he's phenomenal. I'd love to get him over to Canada, not only for the sake of his family, but also he'd probably start coming to the office too. So if anyone's available. I know it's during rush. I hate asking and I already told him like give me a month or two because I'd like to, I'd like to ask you more like honestly in June or July or July, August I should say, once things slow down a bit. But if you're willing to do that, you send me an email. Franchise gustamongerservices.com basically he needs a Canadian entity to be the sponsor and I told him that I could ask one of you. So send me an email. Not a big rush but if someone is willing to do that, I really appreciate it personally. His, his little dog is just a gem. And over there it's basically like if you're not at a certain level, you stay, you have to stay home and they just don't have the structure and social network.
All right, let's go and present.
We got two questions. Let's see what we got. First one comes from the peen.
I know this issue has been discussed in the last couple mike minutes but I'm running into the issue of my base pay being too high. $22 per hour when P4P is 33% of $75. My team is great this year so it hasn't caused an issue in the field but just sucks seeing that they don't make that much bonus even if they are making decent time. Our shop is an average 15 minute drive from our MO routes and landscape jobs. Should I pay them an extra 30 minutes of unbillable per day to help with this and hopefully show a bit more bonus on their pay?
Yeah. So based upon our 25 metric you would be wanting to be charging at least $88 per hour in order to be able to accommodate a 22 per hour base. Now if you financially are like, hey, I'm doing fine. I just want my guys to make more above, more, more money and like to be more incentivized by P4P, I'd recommend just moving your percentage up. So instead of being 33, maybe you move that to 36 or 38.
I would prefer you doing that because otherwise you're going to start getting this debate with your guys. Well, there's traffic. Okay. Now is it going to be 20 minutes or 15 minutes? So and so lives closer. Like you know, that job was only two minutes away. That job is 30 minutes away. That one's way on the other side of our territory. That one's outside of our route, our typical route. You're going to get all of that. So I'd rather just stick to the simplicity of PPP and do give a higher percentage if you're trying to incentivize your crew more is what we did in Bellingham. We moved it up to 45% for the spring rush just because again, we need the majority of the team to be above base pay. And so.
Especially if you allow new guys and if you have a new new location that has a new route, you're also going to have just less P4P in general. But when you have that those things compounding on top of like fast growing grass and then like you have pressure on your actual numbers. Yeah, it's just gonna be tough for the hit above base pay. And the last thing you want is their guys just to think the PPT is a fugazi joke that you're making up.
Terolac from Boone Creek, Tennessee. Hey Mike, hope your hunger is getting better. Yes, we got it. We really eat last night. Let's go. Forgive me, but I but I don't have it clear in my mind when we are required to purchase the growth model. We started in May 2022. We are currently under 20K per month. Yeah. So it's going to be since January 2023 for you, assuming you standard 20K. So everyone's timer kind of started in January 2023 at conference in January 1, 2023, if you are already at above 20,000, you have one year. And if you ever hit 20,000 in the next few months, if you hit 20,000, you have a year from that time. Right now. Are we going to be like down your throat on the 24 hours going in? No if you are actively talking with your coach and you have a plan, we're going to work with you, especially those of you that have been in the past year or two. So don't. I would not worry about this. Communicate, that's the main thing. But especially those people that are doing. There's solo operators doing 40, 50, $60,000 a month in revenue. You definitely have to get in within your 12 month window. So that would be by the end of this year. So.
Cool. I think that's all we had for questions. Let me delete these out.
Cool. I'm making the videos every evening in terms of kind of behind the scenes of what I'm working on here, but kind of just a real brief on here I am. I just offered a job for my first guy. He's hopefully going to become my general manager. We'll see if he responds back positively. He would be moving into town from about four hours away. He did not know about me prior to.
Applying. So we'll see how that goes. And then we got three or four leads came in now, so starting a little momentum.
I'm gonna go out and hold the sign again today and I want to track a few hours worth of that and see how that performs. Like if I can get a lead every 30 minutes, it's right up there with the war hangers. So and if that, if I can consistently do that, it's okay. Well, can I hire someone to hold this sign the next month and I pay them a commission so I'm gonna be working on that stuff. I've got to go to UPS and get all the stuff for every door direct mail set up. I thought I ordered the yard sign holders but they didn't show up the wire. So I gotta try to find some of those. Supposedly in our market, competitors steal all the yard signs. So that's probably not going to work anyways.
But yeah, I'm going to do some estimates right now. I'm just struggling to honestly fit everything in right now. So I'm hoping to get this guy starting on the 12th. And then my plan is, is sell all the mowing from the Tuesdays and Thursdays and then the 12th start booking my schedule with projects so I can get this guy full time ready to roll. So that is the plan. All right, everyone have a great day and I'm going to go ahead and update the audio version of the mic minutes in just a second. All right, take of care.
